Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Juliano Esquivel (ranked 5866 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Holzken (ranked 8798 p4p, 0 weight class). Nick Holzken is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Juliano Esquivel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nick Holzken! The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Winston Alpacca and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Holzken shoots for a double leg takedown but Esquivel sprawls well. He's pushed Holzken's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Holzken tries to score a power double leg takedown but Esquivel sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Holzken somewhat. Esquivel moves into range and clinches up with Holzken. Esquivel jumps guard.
Esquivel pulls Holzken in close to prevent any damage. Holzken must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Esquivel has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Esquivel tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Esquivel connects with a nice short shot to Holzken's temple. Esquivel is trying to control. Holzken wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Esquivel wants to stand up but Holzken has a hold of him and won't allow it. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Esquivel in particular looking to stall. Holzken throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Esquivel takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Esquivel is trying hard to land a takedown here. Holzken sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Holzken lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. Holzken moves out of range of the body kick from Esquivel.
Holzken shoots in looking for a takedown but Esquivel manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Holzken's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Esquivel throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Despite the aggression on Holzken's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Holzken tries to sprawl but Esquivel drives through with a takedown into half guard. Esquivel sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Holzken defending well though. Holzken blocking the ground and pound attempt from Esquivel. Esquivel is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Holzken sees it coming and defends easily. Esquivel is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Holzken tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Esquivel manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Esquivel rushes Holzken and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Esquivel taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Esquivel stalls. Esquivel seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression. Esquivel tries to pull guard but Holzken won't allow it.

We're back to striking at a distance. Esquivel is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Holzken can do to turn this around? Esquivel has managed to clinch.

Holzken is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Esquivel tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Holzken is trying desperately to improve position. Holzken slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Esquivel works his foot free and advances to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Esquivel moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Holzken has worked his arm free - good work by Holzken!
Esquivel wants to lay and pray for a moment but Holzken keeps working. Esquivel tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Wait, no, Holzken rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Esquivel's guard! Nice work there by Holzken! Esquivel keeping moving, preventing Holzken from controlling successfully. Holzken sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Esquivel doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Holzken paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Esquivel - great work!
