Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Irving Carney! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Phil Kessel! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck with that takedown attempt from Carney. Kessel misses with a double jab.
Kessel gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Kessel lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Kessel. Kessel jumps guard.
Kessel wants to sweep but no luck. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carney stops Kessel from standing up. Carney trying to control the position from guard on top but Kessel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Kessel has Carney pulled in close to control his posture.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carney stopping the sweep attempt from Kessel. Kessel seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Kessel throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Carney controls from within his opponent's guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Kessel swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Carney. Kessel leaves Carney with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Kessel gets a takedown into half guard. Carney won't allow Kessel to pass to mount. Carney wants to get back to full guard. Kessel seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Kessel tries to pass to full mount but Carney defends it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kessel looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Kessel sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Carney defending well though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Kessel has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Kessel raining down shots from the mount! Kessel scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Carney?
Carney is rocked! Kessel drops a big elbow. That's hurt Carney! More shots from Kessel and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
