PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Bronco (ranked 1404 p4p, 167 weight class) and Streicher Voges (ranked 2217 p4p, 247 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Voges's choice of entrance music: Windgat bakkie. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Johnny Bronco!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Streicher Voges!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big left from Bronco misses.

Voges closes the distance and pushes Bronco back into the cage.
Bronco tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Bronco digs a right hand underneath Voges's ribcage. Voges let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Voges wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Voges changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bronco fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Voges looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Bronco lands a nice hook to Voges's body. Voges takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Johnny Bronco seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Voges shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Bronco defends it nicely.
Johnny Bronco has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Streicher Voges.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Voges shoots for a takedown but Bronco saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A little feinted left hand from Bronco on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Bronco is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Voges.

Bronco tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Voges was well out of range. Poor timing from Bronco.
Bronco sets himself, and Voges steps forward looking for the clinch! Bronco avoids it this time.
Bronco ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Voges moves away.
Voges walks into a left hand.
Voges avoids the body shot from Bronco.
Bronco throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
And Voges tries to counter it with a takedown but Bronco pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Bronco fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Voges manages to avoid it.
Voges tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Bronco defends well and Voges ends up having to push Bronco into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Voges's coach down at Holding Cell was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Voges's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Bronco misses with a looping left.
Bronco throws a series of punches but Voges avoids them all with ease.
Voges fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bronco looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Voges ducks under a wild hook from Bronco.
Voges moves in looking to clinch but Bronco pushes him off.

Bronco scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Bronco keeps the fight on the outside.
Bronco throws a lazy right hand but Voges sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Voges shoots in for a takedown but Bronco shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Bronco connects with a single shot there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Voges tries to clinch there but Bronco circles away.
Bronco jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Voges keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Bronco misses with a body shot.

Voges fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Bronco to the ground. Voges is now in Bronco's guard.
Voges landing with the ground and pound.
Bronco lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Voges can do anything to dispel that myth.
Bronco is looking to advance position but Voges has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Voges landing strikes from the mount and Bronco is in trouble!
Voges scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Bronco?
Bronco can't escape the position.
Bronco bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Voges not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Bronco postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Voges looking for a guillotine here but Bronco defends easily.

Bronco pushes down on Voges's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Bronco has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Bronco is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Voges defends it well.
Voges flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Bronco not landing any meaningful shots this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Voges shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bronco sprawls well. Bronco wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Voges gets slowly back to his feet.

Bronco connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Voges's hands.

Bronco throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Johnny Bronco is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Bronco stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Bronco wants it to stay on the feet.

Bronco was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Bronco has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Voges tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Voges is looking to clinch but Bronco is avoiding it.

Bronco slaps away a takedown attempt from Voges, before circling back to the center of the mat.

and Voges counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Voges.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Bronco has his feet on Voges's thighs here. He's pushed Voges off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Voges screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
