That will dishearten Bates somewhat. Pennino walks into a jab. Bates keeps the fight on the outside. Bates has been working on his balance at Arvins Bootcamp, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Pennino. Bates doesn't manage to clinch there - Pennino circles away.
Bates throws a leg kick that misses. #TD# Pennino gets caught napping as Bates dives in and scores a takedown. Pennino manages to retain guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pennino controlling the position. Bates trying to control but Pennino is working from the bottom. Pennino pulls Bates in to control the position. Bates throwing strikes from guard but Pennino blocks nicely. #T1# Bates throwing strikes but missing. #R1# Pennino throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Pennino shoots and misses and Malcoms cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Pennino stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Malcoms . Malcoms lands with a thumping leg kick.
Malcoms feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Pennino's calf. Pennino moves to clinch but Malcoms breaks away and Malcoms counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Nice jab there from Malcoms . Malcoms throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Pennino's head. Pennino gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Malcoms counters with a lovely straight right hand! Pennino doesn't succeed with the takedown enabling Malcoms to counter with a crisp jab. Daniel Malcoms has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paulie Pennino.#T1# Pennino shoots and misses and Malcoms counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Malcoms scores with the left hand. #R1# Bryan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pennino as he avoids it easily. Bryan ducks under a wild hook from Pennino. Remo Bryan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.#CL2# Pennino has managed to clinch.
#TD2# Pennino wants the takedown. Bryan is fighting it off but Pennino persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Bryan 's guard against the cage. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Pennino's corner. There ya go! There ya go! There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bryan is on top in guard.
