The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Branch throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Steel tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Branch is in Steel's guard. Steel keeping moving, preventing Branch from controlling successfully. Steel keeping full guard, as Branch tries to pass. Branch has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Steel is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Branch drops back, looking for a kneebar! Branch manages to work his way to half guard, despite Steel's best efforts. Steel is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Branch defends it well. Branch is holding on to half guard well. Branch is trying to get back to full guard.

Steel is pressing down on Branch's thigh, looking to free his foot. Branch is holding on for now. Branch is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Branch's guard. Steel is looking to take a break and control but Branch is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. That's seven minutes gone in the round. Steel passes Branch's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Steel prevents Branch from improving his position. Branch keeping hold of Steel's head, controlling as best he can. Steel is pressing down on Branch's thigh, looking to free his foot. Branch is holding on for now. Branch is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

That's nine minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Steel in particular looking to stall. Branch has his hands clasped together around Steel's back. He's all about the action. Branch won't allow Steel to pass to mount. Branch tries to get to full guard but Steel has control of the leg. Steel trying to control from Branch's half guard. Branch has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Steel sitting in guard here, content to control. Branch controlling Steel's posture.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Steel advances to half guard. Steel looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Branch controlling the position well. Steel wants to free his trapped foot but Branch is holding on for dear life with his legs. Branch wants to get back to full guard.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Steel wants to take a breather but Branch is having none of it. Branch regains full guard. Nicely done. Branch wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Steel pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Branch is keeping the position for now. Branch working for a triangle but Steel defends it easily.
Branch pulls Steel in close to prevent any damage.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Steel won't allow Branch to sweep him here. Steel tries to free his leg and advance position but Branch is retaining full guard. Branch wants to sweep here but Steel controlling him for the moment. Branch managing to control the position. Steel trying to control but Branch is working from the bottom.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Steel looking to sit in guard and control but Branch gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Branch (8) vs (6) Steel Branch trying to control the position from guard on top but Steel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Branch slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Branch advances position into side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Branch (11) vs (6) Steel Branch looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Branch working away.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Steel sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Branch is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Steel doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Branch. Branch is trying to control. Steel wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Branch wants to advance to full mount but Steel doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Branch passes Steel's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Branch seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Steel does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that's the end of the fight! Branch takes the fight on points by 11 to 6. A very excited looking Titus Branch made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction. |
