#R1# A big left from Oyama misses. Masutatsu Oyama seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Oyama throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Oyama ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Smash misses with a wild body shot. Smash lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Oyama at a distance.
Smash comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Oyama throws a hook to the side of Smash's head but Smash sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. It seemed like Smash was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Smash takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smash misses with a low kick.
Oyama misses with a series of wild punches.
Smash looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Oyama lands a jab to the nose.#T1# Good standup being displayed there by Oyama as he connects with a hook. Oyama is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Oyama throws a hook but Smash avoids it easily. Oyama swings and misses with a shot to the body enabling Smash to counter with a crisp jab. Oyama misses with a jab to the body
and Smash counters with a nice uppercut. Smash has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Smash tries to work over Oyama's front leg with a kick but Oyama checks it. It looked like Oyama was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Smash. Smash thows a left - swing and a miss! Smash moves into range and connects with a jab. #ROC2#Oyama is rocked! Oyama throws a big shot that misses. Oh Oyama is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! A big right from Smash misses. Oyama uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Smash. Jab from Oyama. Smash jabbing away but nothing is landing. Smash throws a hook but Oyama blocks it. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Demolition Smash will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Masutatsu Oyama's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.#R2# Oyama tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Smash paws at him with a jab and circles away. Oyama seems to have got his legs back now. Smash slips under a jab. A big right from Smash misses. Oyama throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smash's waist but Smash gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Oyama off to one side. Nice shot lands for Smash. Oyama moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Oyama looks to throw the jab but Smash is out of range. Smash throws a monster overhand right that drops Oyama! Smash follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!

#R1##TD2# Oyama drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Oyama trying to control the action but Diaz is working from the bottom. Diaz wants to control but Oyama postures up. Diaz is trying to get back to half guard. Oyama wants to stand but Diaz has his arm trapped. Diaz is trying to get back to half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Diaz is letting Oyama control him for a moment. Diaz is not content to let Oyama control the position. #T1# You can see the frustration on Diaz's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Oyama wants to control but Diaz is keeping him busy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Diaz manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Nice strikes from Oyama there. Oyama looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Oyama is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
#SUB# Diaz looking for submissions from an awkward position here.#T2# A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Diaz gets full guard. Diaz looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Oyama postures up.
Oyama passes Diaz's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Oyama is keen to just control but Diaz is a slippery customer. Oyama tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Diaz wants to control but Oyama is keeping busy.
#REF3# The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Diaz loads up on a big right hand but Oyama slips the punch.#T3# Diaz closes the distance but Oyama moves to the side #TD2# and Oyama counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Oyama working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Diaz's thigh. Diaz counters though and makes it back to full guard. #SUB# Diaz is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Oyama has his hands clasped together but Diaz extends and breaks Oyama's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Diaz.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Nate Diaz! Nate Diaz tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool. |
