Striving for revival

Fighter profile of Vanilla Ice Cold by Aylib 2.0

To quote the Last Emperor: "One who never falls never gets up", and some have truly fallen. Vanilla Ice Cold, once an owner of 16-1 record (14 KOs, 1 Sub) is 0-3 in his last three fights. Prior to hitting this snag Ice Cold was ranked #4 in his weight class and appeared nearly unstoppable, suffering his only loss via submission, a loss that was attributed to Cold's manager's inexperience.

After signing with UPG, an organizatio laden with bantamweight talent, Ice Cold's level of competition doubled in its abilities and experience, and the results have shown: KO loss to #1 Rafa Silva, followed by two decision losses to Microscopic Hunt and Gegard Houllebecq, ranked 35th and 22nd respectively.

Cold's last fight took place on April 5th, 2013; since then Ice Cold h

Interview with Gaara Ryusan

Fighter profile of Gaara Ryusan by

Throwdown Fights:  Gaara, first off, welcome to the Bantamweight division of Throwdown Fights.  How do you feel about the competition?

Gaara Ryusan:  Thank you. The division is still young, and everyone is still trying to prove themselves.  There's been two champions so far, and both have been grapplers, I'm looking to change that.

TDF:  Mikhail Maeda recently won the title from Jamie Lawlor by using his superior BJJ.  If you're able to become a top contender, do you think you could handle a Brown Belt?

Ryusan:  He has the better ground game, that's for sure.  He needs to get in close to take me down though, and he's not going to like that.  I've been training my sprawl, and I'm the best striker in the division.

TDF:  That's a pretty big claim for someone who hasn't fought yet, care to elaborate?

Ryusan:  The Bantamweight division is filled with wrestlers and BJJ practitioners.  I've been boxing for over a decade, and none of them have gone up against anything like that.  I'm going to overwhelm them.

TDF:  There is one other fighter in the division who prefers to keep it standing up, and that is 0-3 Jackie Lee.  Have you watched h

Interview with Dan Thompson

Fighter profile of Dan Thompson by

Throwdown Fights:  Throwdown Fights here with Super Heavyweight Champion Dan "The Tank" Thompson.  Thanks for joining us today.

Dan Thompson:  My pleasure.

TDF: So to start off, lets talk about some of your accomplishments.  You're the first Super Heavyweight Champ in TDF, The first champion to successfully defend his title, recipient of a Fight of the Night award, and currently undefeated at 2-0.  Not to mention you're currently ranked 7th pound for pound in the organization.  How does that all feel?

Thompson:  It's surreal.  I got lucky getting chosen for that first fight for the title.  I came out and proved the better fighter to get on top and now that I'm here, I don't plan on leaving any time soon.

TDF:  Speaking of your first fight, your opponent Johnny DeMarco called you out for a rematch.

Thompson:  That's right.  Claims I got lucky with the arm triangle.

TDF:  You accepted the fight, though under some odd circumstances.

Thompson:  I have no problem fighting the man again, if he wants to get beat, I'll dish the beating every time.  But he hasn't earned a title shot, and TDF doesn't just give title shots to whoever runs their mouths.  So I got together with Mr. Naccarato and DeMarco and we talked it out.  We decided to make it a non title fight, three rounds deal.

TDF:  Do you feel that this was the ri

Empire 45 - Recap and Bonus Awards

The 2nd June marked the occasion of Empire 45 in Los Angeles, only available on PPV, here's a quick recap of all the action and the results of the bonus awards as we go over a great night of fights!

205 lbs - Gristle McThornbody vs Ignatius Reilly

McThornbody controlled this one for the majority of the fight, cutting open Reilly early on and never really allowing him to work his way into it. McThornbody was throwing more and landing more throughout the rounds, working some tidy boxing along with some heavy low kicks to the leg and body. Reilly tried to stay competitive bur with his hands struggling to land he was restricted to only really having any success with leg kicks and with both guys nullifying each other in the clinch, it made it a comfortable decision victory for McThornbody

Winner – Gristle McThornbody via Unanimous Decision (30:27 on all scorecards)
