London's Brawling

Editorial by Bricktop McKenzie

London’s Brawling

Last week I introduced you all to 3 of the top orgs in London, one Org who didn’t get a mention though is Troid. The top dog, number 1 fighting org in London, number 9 in the world, Troid deserve a special mention all of their own and this week I’ll be giving you all the low down on them. In addition I’ll look back on an action packed week and getting the crystal ball out for a few predictions.

Troid
Run by Craig Brophy, Troid started life in August 2010 in a card which saw Crash Bandicoot crowned the orgs first ever champion with a win over Tomasz Rozwalka in the Light Heavyweight Division. Originally focusing mainly on fighters with an ID of 100K or over, Troid has moved from it’s humble origins as start out org for newer fighters to London’s premier place to fight. With 6 true divisions (the 265+ lbs division is used to blood new fighters) there is plenty going on. A recent takeover of CFL has seen several big name, lower ID fighters come in to shake up the status quo. And whilst I understand that the takeover ended up proving costly for Troid they continue to put on strong cards.

As well as their normal events Troid have so far run 9 super card events. Known as Troid Slider Kingz these events have seen Craig bring in top talent from other orgs for 1 off super fights. These events have been one of the keys to Troid success.

With 81 events to their name Troid have a long enough history to create legends in the org. Three of these have made it into the Hall of Fame, including my own fighter, Paul Poulter, the current 205 lbs champion. The other two are;

Jay Jay - Known as Mr Troid, Jay Jay is a legend. Winner of the tournament to crown Troid’s first ever Middleweight Champion, Jay Jay went on to defend it 8 times, including against Paul Poulter at Slider Kingz 8. Two recent losses in a row have seen him lose his title and a little bit of his aura but a recent win over Gustavo Ramirez have shown that he isn’t ready to call it a day yet.

Ding Dong - The ex-heavyweight champ boast a record of 15-3 with 13 of those wins coming by TKO. That’s some serious power. Still only 23 Ding Dong has a long future ahead of him and a recent win over young gun Stefol Czarnecki has seen him jump back into contention for the Heavyweight belt he will always consider his property.

So Troid are current kings of the castle, however getting there and staying there are two very different things. With only one upcoming event planned it looks like Troid may be slowing down a little over the Christmas period. Could that give someone else the chance to leapfrog them and take their crown?

Weekly Round Up
With a whopping 21 events run between the 10th and 16th December it would be impossible for me to review them all. And so while there are a few which caught my eye there will be many more which I’ll have missed. If you’ve run a card which you think deserves attention, or if you’ve participated in a fight which deserves coverage then let me know.

Bloodlust 2 - Bloodsport Fighting Championship
Taking place on the 10th December Bloodlust 2 was a massive card for the number 2 org in London. With both the 145 lb and 265+ lbs titles being defended, over 10,000 fans saw an exciting event which scored a rating of 239.63. Whilst concerns over the quality of the opponent for super heavyweight champion, Hassan Al Aziz (opponent Cloud Strife has a record of 15-12 and was coming off a loss) were proved correct with an easy first round KO for the champ, no such accusation could be levelled in the Featherweight title clash where challenger Herman Cortes beat Chris Bacon in a very close 5 round bout that went to the cards.

Advent Countdown 3 - Troid
The highest rated event of the week (250.32) advent 3 showed why Troid is number 1. When you can pull an event like that out of the bag without even featuring a title match then you know you’ve got strength in depth. The main event saw Boba Fett go 17-1 with a win over Troid‘s Middleweight Champion. The belt wasn‘t on the line as Fett had only signed a one fight deal, and he must be the hottest free agent in London at the moment.

LFNC 92 - Tessin v Koultun III - London Fight Night Club
LFNC put on a stellar card featuring two title fights. Welterweight Champ, Sean Quinn defended his title by 2nd round KO against Tirawit Kokin. As Sean’s manager I was very pleased with this performance as I had him pegged to lose. Old Iron Fist did me proud though racking up his 12 TKO win to keep the title he recently regained.
The main event saw current champion Randy Tessin seeking to defend his featherweight title against Konrad Koltun in their third clash. They have met twice previously in the sadly now defunct British Cage Fighting with a points win for Koltun and a draw the outcomes. This time Kolton made sure it didn’t go to the judges, dominating every round Koltun used his wrestling to take Tessin down at will before finally putting him away by ground and pound in the 4th. Still only 22 and with a record of 22-0-1 the new champ could be very hard to beat.

Upcoming
Even though we are entering the Christmas period there are 24 events planned, with 6 taking place on Christmas Day, come on guys have a heart, even the toughest of fighters need a day to celebrate and eat turkey. Again with some many events planned it would be impossible to preview them all, but here are a few you may want to look out for.

LFNC 93 - Season’s Beatings - London Fight Night Club
Taking place on Christmas Eve this card sees both the Heavyweight and the Light Heavyweight Titles on the line. Lenny Mclean faces undefeated contender Adam Vymiatajec. Vymiatajec has Elite level boxing and he has put it to good use winning 7 of his 8 fights in the first round. The Champion is no slouch in the power department either with 15 KO wins under his belt. This is a very even match up and I’m gonna call it for the challenger, that’s right LFNC to have a new Heavyweight Champion for Christmas.

The Co-main event sees Tony Mortimer challenge Jet Leet for the Light Heavyweight Title. Mortimer came up short last time he challenged for the title but he is much better prepared now and is going to prove a real tough test for Leet, particularly with his superior MT skills. Could we see two title changes in one night? I’m going to say no (which almost certainly means we will).

FCFC 40: Christmas - Fish & Chips Fight Club
One of the up and coming London Orgs, Fish & Chips Fight Club’s Christmas Day offering sees current Light Heavyweight Champion Anton Hammer defend his title against the man he took it from Demian Blockhead. Hammer has defended the title twice since winning it while Blockhead has put himself back in contention with a win over Jorgen Jonsson. Blockhead will need to take this to the ground if he is going to win and I don’t think he’ll be able to. Hammer to demonstrate why he won the title last time with a confident performance.

KT Test 7 - Tycoon Fight
London is home to Mike Tycoon’s very own fighting org. Ok so this isn’t a real event and it is just a tester for the new Kick Boxing Rules but still. Mike Tycoon’s very own org. Suck on that all you other cities!

And Finally….

Well I hope you all enjoyed my weekly ramblings, I’m still finding my feet with the format so please let me know if there is anything you would like to see more or less of. I’ve covered the top 4 orgs in London in my org round ups so, unless someone breaks into that top 4 I’ll be looking to cover one of the smaller orgs next time around. So Org owners, let me know if you want some free publicity.

Happy Christmas
