INY 51 Knight vs Ronan

Jan 5 2013

Hayashi’s Lounge, New York

Main Event

185lb Division

Knight (7-4)  vs Ronan (11-4)

Ventura and Melton best look over their shoulders because there are some serious challengers to their domination in the INY 185lb division.

Knight like Ronan is the complete package and is coming off a points win over former champ Archie Fallon, a fight in which he demonstrated sound boxing skills and a clinch game that Fallon could not handle. Knight is 7-4 and has gone to decision only 3 times, so invariably someone gets KTFO. Knight has been stopped 3 times but by more experienced fighters, and twice by the Mex Ico a brutal KO artist.

Ronan 11-4 is the former Wild Den Middleweight Champion where he made 6 defenses and is also a fighter that rarely waits for the judges. He stands and trades, predominantly relying on his boxing skills which have brought him 10 Kos in his 11 wins. Like Knight he can be hurt, but he has been stopped only once and like Knight that was against an older fighter with heavy hands.

These two will collide and the cage will rock, this will not go to the judges. This is an incredible match up for MMA stalwarts, the odds are up at the Immortals Casino, and I can’t decide on this one.

155lb Division

Pintor vs Fo Dayz

Pintor (7-4) has won his last 2 via submission to earn a reputation as a real tough son of a bitch. Like Wellman Jnr and Corey Smith, Pintor has mixed in good company, and this well rounded fighter with a big heart knows a victory over Fo Dayz could get him that title shot.

Fo Dayz 10-6 is a striker with great ground defense, a veteran of the 4 Kings organization in Amsterdam where he fought serious opposition from 145lb to 205lbs.

Pintor is tough and he will need to be, he doesn’t want to stand in front of Dayz for too long, he needs to get the takedown and put Dayz ground defense to the sword. Experience, skills, power all points to Dayz winning this, but Pintor out toughed Briar McGuire so this one will be interesting.

265lb Division

Ibakka vs Van Kirkland

Youth versus experience here with striker Ibakka 3-0 (3 Kos) facing the former AAFL Super Heavyweight Champion and older brother of Hall of Famer Vladdy, Mikhail Van Kirkland.  Ibakka has to keep this standing and use his heavy hands to slice and dice the fragile skin of Van Kirkland who will look to secure an early takedown and pound the resistance out of young Ibakka.

A tough early test for Ibakka, so manager TJ Heisman must have real faith in his young charge, but Van Kirkland, while beatable has the tools and experience to take this one.
