IMMA 112: Taalasmaa vs. Patton
LA Memorial Coliseum
January 23rd, 2013
Live On Pay-Per View

First Fight (170 lbs): Johnny Rotten (23-13-1, 0-0) vs. Antti Sokka (19-12, 3-4 IMMA)
The first fight on this card should be a good one. Making his IMMA debut will be Johnny Rotten, a scrappy well rounded veteran who is incredibly tough to finish. He will need to use his well rounded skills to mix it up and look to catch the BJJ specialist Sokka on the feet and finish him. Sokka is a submission specialist who has had rough luck when it comes to decisions as 2 of his 4 IMMA losses coming via narrow split decision losses. To avoid losing he will need to use his deadly Jiu-Jitsu skills to lock up Rotten on the ground and force a tap out.
Prediction: Sokka is tough and if he can get this fight to the ground he can tap Rotten but ultimately Rotten has only ever been tapped once and he should be able to avoid the submission and catch Sokka and finish the fight via TKO in the second round.

Second Fight (185 lbs): “General” Gomer Pyle (20-12-1, 8-8-1 IMMA) vs. Janne Jakoavain (26-13-1, 0-2 IMMA)
The second fight of the night is between two very experienced fighters who should put on a great fight. Pyle is a former middleweight champ who is looking to get back on track after going 1-7 in his last 8 fights, and with many people questioning whether he can get back to the top of the division the pressure will be on for him to have an impressive showing. Looking to test him will be the scrappy veteran Jakoavin who incredibly has only been finished twice in his 40 fight career. He will no doubt be a formidable test for Pyle and a win for him would help establish him as a threat in the 185 lbs. division.
Prediction: Jakoavain is as tough as they come but Pyle is a little to well-rounded and he should be able to use his striking to set up takedowns and control the grappling game en route to a unanimous decision

Third Fight (145 lbs): “Night Haunter” Konrad Kurze (19-9, 7-7 IMMA) vs. “The Black Emperor” Efriam Haldi (5-3, 1-3 IMMA)
The next fight of the night is a featherweight contest pitting a veteran in Kurze facing an up and comer in Haldi. Haldi is a well rounded fighter who is skilled everywhere but he will be taking a step up in this fight. Kurze is one of the more experienced fighters in the featherweight division with 28 pro fights and he comes into this fight with 10 career submission wins and a black belt in BJJ. Haldi will want to avoid going to the ground with the “Night Haunter” and try to use his muay thai skills to outpoint Kurze on the feet.
Prediction: Haldi is a talented prospect but he will have his hands full with Kurze in this fight, Haldi will likely try to keep this fight upright but Kurze should able to drag Haldi into a grappling exchange where he will lock up a fight ending submission in the first round.

Fourth Fight (145 lbs): Suren “Missing Link” Nazarethyan (11-0, 7-0 IMMA) vs. “Little Boogie” Charles Oliveira (15-9, 9-5 IMMA)
The fourth fight on the card is a rematch in the featherweight division between two very different fighters. At just 22 years old Nazarethyan has established himself as a top prospect at 145 and with an undefeated record throughout 11 fights he has proven to be very good at making his opponents fight his fight. Oliveira meanwhile will be looking to get revenge on Nazarethyan who was able to thoroughly control him up against the cage in their last fight. Oliveira is a lethal submission artist who has finished his 13 of his 15 wins via submission and will no doubt look to somehow get the undefeated Armenian to the ground to work his BJJ.
Prediction: Both men are average strikers but this fight will ultimately come down to the grappling. Nazarethyan will look to take the fight to the clinch early and often and control the submission artist. While it is not far fetched that Oliveira could eventually get this to the ground and work his Jiu-Jitsu it is more likely Nazarethyan can dominate this fight in the clinch en route to a unanimous decision victory.

Fifth Fight (265 lbs): Taisto Tappura (16-8, 3-4 IMMA) vs. “Lasol Si Inpicioare” Vvierme Llamer (24-17, 1-3 IMMA)
The last fight on the preliminary portion of the card is a heavyweight slugfest that is bound to produce fireworks. Tappura is a striking specialist with huge power in his hands who is going to look to put the more experienced fighter Llamer away via knockout by using his elite boxing skills to dictate the striking in this fight. Llamer has been around the game for awhile and will hope that after 41 fights in his career his experience will be able to carry him to a victory in this fight. Llamer is another fighter who likes to stand and trade as well as he carries 17 career knockouts into this fight and he will no doubt be looking to take out Tappura on the feet.
Prediction: This fight will most likely not see the judge’s scorecards as these men enter the cage with a combined 31 knockout victories and this fight could easily be won or lost by one punch. Both men are talented strikers who will both look to impose their will on the feet but in the end the younger fighter Tappura will be able to catch Llamer and put him away via KO in the second round.

Sixth fight (265 lbs): “Kakarot” Son Goku (23-7, 0-0 IMMA) vs. Kurt “The Hurt” Meyer (23-8, 2-1 IMMA)
Now it’s time to kick off the main card with a heavyweight scrap that should put the fans on the edge of their seats. Goku is a dangerous heavyweight making his IMMA debut that comes into this fight with lots of championship experience. Goku has been at the top of other organizations and he knows what it takes to become a champion and to compete at the highest level. Standing in his way will be knockout specialist Kurt Meyer who has finished 20 of 23 wins via KO. Despite suffering a setback in his second appearance in IMMA due to a cut Meyer rebounded in his last fight with a KO and with a win over Goku he will become a major player in the heavyweight division.
Prediction: Goku is an experienced fighter who has fought and beaten many good fighters in his career but with all 7 of his career losses coming via (T)KO his chin has been called into question before. Meyer hits like a freight train and he will be able to connect with Goku’s chin and finish this fight off via TKO in the first round.

Seventh Fight (170 lbs): “Cutty” Dennis Wise (18-8, 3-2 IMMA) vs. Eli “The Blessing” Bracha (17-6, 1-1 IMMA)
The next fight on the card is a welterweight contest between two talented fighters who have put together solid performances lately. Wise comes into this fight on the heels of two straight wins in which he looked very impressive. He is a top notch striker who is equally dangerous at a distance or in the clinch and he will look to use his elite striking skills to pick apart Bracha in this fight. Bracha should not be underrated in this fight as the 26 year old is a very good striker as well who much like his opponent is well versed in clinch work and at fighting on the outside. He is a talented striker as well and he should be able to go toe to toe with Wise and make this fight a war.
Prediction: This fight has fight of the night potential; two talented strikes that mix it up well should be able to make this fight one to watch for the fans. In the end Wise is a little more seasoned on the feet and he will use his experience and skills to get a competitive unanimous decision victory.

Eighth Fight (265 lbs): “Superfoot” Theo AtlaSon (19-4, 0-0 IMMA) vs. “Johny Boy” John Esposito (22-10, 2-2 IMMA)
The next fight is in the heavyweight division between one of the heaviest hitters in the heavyweight division John Esposito and the debuting Theo AtlaSon. AtlaSon is a very technical, talented striker with top notch muay thai skill. He will be much smaller in this fight than Esposito so he will need to use his significant speed advantage to get in and out on the bigger man. Looking to give AtlaSon a rude welcome to IMMA will be John Esposito, a former IMMA title challenger who is looking to get back to the top of the heap. Esposito is a monstrous knockout machine who has finished 21 of his 22 victories via (T)KO and will no doubt be looking to use his boxing skills to catch AtlaSon early and end his fight.
Prediction: Esposito walks around sixty pounds heavier than his foe and this could prove deadly as Esposito likes to land his big power punches, but AtlaSon will have the speed and cardio advantage and that could play a big part in this fight as well. Despite the significant size and power advantage AtlaSon should be able to survive the first round and slowly start using his speed advantage to outpoint the big man en route to a unanimous decision verdict.

Co-Main Event (185 lbs): Igor “Pure Evil” Glozman (35-15, 7-5 IMMA) vs. Abe Goldman (28-10, 5-5 IMMA)
Now it’s time for the co-main event of the evening, 3 rounds in the middleweight division. This is a rematch from early in both of these men’s IMMA careers. Glozman was able to win the last fight via TKO in the third round, and it seemed the main difference in that fight was Glozmans ability to dominate the fight in the clinch. Goldman was able to have some success when they were at a distance but once they clinched up it was all Glozman. This is an important fight for both fighters as Glozman the former middleweight champ comes into this fight after losing 3 of his last 4 were as Goldman comes in riding an impressive 3 fight win streak so there is a lot on the line for both fighters.
Prediction: Both fighters know each other well so that adds an interesting dynamic coming into this fight. For Glozman the game plan is simple, set up clinch attempts with strikes and use his muay thai advantage. Goldman will be better prepared this time around and it will be more competitive but in the end Glozman will walk away with a decision victory in an entertaining fight.

Main Event (155 lbs): Seppo “Suppo” Taalasmaa (38-18, 5-1 IMMA) vs. Michael “Nuts of Wonder” Patton (26-9, 9-3 IMMA)
The main event of the evening is bound to be a barnburner ladies and gentlemen as former champ Taalasmaa looks to rebound from the loss of his championship while Patton will look to score the biggest win of his IMMA career. Taalasmaa lost his belt in his last fight and will no doubt be looking to get another crack at the belt with a win in this fight. “Suppo” is a well rounded veteran who prefers to fight on the ground with 13 career submission wins and he would love to drag down Patton and force him to tap. Patton won’t be one to roll over though, currently riding a two fight win streak Patton is an under appreciated fighter in the lightweight division who will be looking to make a statement in this fight. At 29 years old and with 12 fights in IMMA Patton hasn’t been able to fight for the belt yet but with a win here he could make a solid argument to be considered a top dog in the division. Patton is an exciting technical striker who is good in the clinch and good striking at a distance and that is his key to winning this fight is to mix it up on the feet. Taalasmaa needs to use his grappling advantage to drag Patton to the ground and use his BJJ to lock up a sub and tap him out.
Prediction: This fight is razor close and could go either way, with both fighters having advantages in different areas. Each round will be close but Patton will be able to withstand the grappling attacks of “Suppo” and use his striking to take a razor-thin decision win.
