Oh man! Have we got a night for all you mma fans out there. Hi, my name is Fred Meyer and I'm here to give you a preview of the UPF's first P.P.V. event, UPF 23: Smile You're On P.P.V. The event takes place in Hilo, HI on Feb. 23, 2013 at The Pipeline at 6 pm local time. This event is HUGE with five title fights. Yes, you heard correctly, five belts will be on the line. So, with no further delays, here is the roster...

Undercard Bouts:

"Sonny" David Maher (3-4-0) Vs San "Paradox" Sebastian (0-1-0)
Scott "Scotty-B" Banks (7-3-0) Vs Repo Lakunen (0-1-0)
Maxim Markov (5-2-0) Vs Robert "The Cure" Smith (14-8-0)
Harry "Jester" Kalizhnikov (10-7-0) Vs Mauricio "Pitbull" Calvancante (8-2-0)

Quick predictions:
Maher, Banks, Markov, and Calvancante

Main Card:

Bobby "Smashface" Haley (7-2-0) Vs Lincoln "The Convict" Burrows (6-4-0)
This is the second time these two will face off in the UPF octagon. At UPF 15 Haley forced Burrows to tap by kimura in only 31 seconds of round one. Burrows lost his next fight and Haley beat Williams. Can The Convict avenge his loss to Haley and end his losing streak?
Prediction: if Haley gets the takedown he wins pure and simple. I see Haley winning by armbar.

Bantamweight Championship
Hype Williams (10-6-0) Vs "Whimpy" Tony Goldman (7-3-0)
Goldman comes into this one with a three fight win streak and looking to become the new 135lb champion. Williams is hoping to defend his belt for the first time. Will there be a new Bantamweight champ? Or Will the champ keep his belt?
Prediction: Hype has better stand up and wrestling. But, Goldman has the bjj skills. If Goldman can take him down then he should be able to score with a sub victory. But, I don't think he'll be able to take the champ down. Hype wins by KO.

Light Heavyweight Championship
Dickson "The Grappler" Gracie (10-1-0) Vs "Man Of War" Hugo Llorente (2-0-0)
Gracie, looking for his sixth title defense, is up against a tough opponent. Hugo is undefeated thus far, beating two top contenders giving him the title shot.
Prediction: Hugo has a little better whilst the champ is more skilled on the ground. I give this one to the champ by submission.

Heavyweight Championship
"Hellraiser" Helge Fossmo (12-5-0) Vs Rutger Crax (8-2-0)
Crax is a two time world UPF champion looking to regain his title. But, Fossmo won't just hand it back. He beat Crax at UPF 16 by TKO. Crax fired his manager after that fight. Can Crax's new manager help him get his belt back? Will Fossmo come out the victor again and keep his belt?
Prediction: Fossmo has the better wrestling and Crax has the bjj. They are pretty evenly matched on the feet. I think under new management Crax will become our first three time heavyweight champion with a victory by TKO.

And that brings us to the co-main event, although I think all the main card fights are main event worthy. But, you can only have one main and co-main. Anyways, here's the co-main event:

Middleweight Championship
"Toy" Tony Brown (8-1-0) Vs Stefan Pruvhe (5-2-0)
Brown has been undefeated in the UPF. And, against solid competition too. Pruvhe will be no different. As tough as nails, Pruvhe is tied for the most KO's in the UPF.
Prediction: While Pruvhe might be the better stand up fighter, Brown has proven to be the best the UPF has to offer, at least in the middleweight division anyway. Brown takes it hands down by submission.

And now for the main event:

Welterweight Championship
"Snakebite" Jake Tyler (27-11-0) Vs Slim "Superman" Shady (8-3-1)
Shady accepted this fight on short notice  without time to prepare for probably the most dangerous man in the UPF, welterweight champion Jake Tyler. Slim has to be credited for his big heart, most fighters don't even want to face Tyler at all. But, Shady stepped up and with short notice too. Good Luck Slim.
Prediction: The champ has his opponent out classed in every aspect of the game. Once again I go with the champ, he win whichever way he wants to.

And that wraps up all the fights on the first P.P.V. event for the UPF. This is going to be the UPF's biggest and most bad-ass events for time to come. So, make sure you don't miss out. Thanks for your time. Until next time, I'm Fred Meyer signing out.
