EMMA 21 Down4life Charity

Event Preview: Emma21Down4Life Charity Event
AD Rising Stars
2013-02-27, Montreal, The Underground - Montreal
Author:Mr Cropper

Good evening everyone, and welcome to another EMMA preview! Tonight I will be previewing for you the top 5 fights of EMMA 21 Down4life Charity event which will take place this wednsday night at The Underground's 1000 spectator arena. The proceeds of this nights profits will go to Andrew Rock of Hellraiser Alliance.

The main card will begin with a light heavyweight matchup:

Alfredo Amarena v Janne My

In his 9 career fights, Alfredo Amarena has seen victory 4 times. 2 by submission, 1 by knockout and has come away with the judges decision just once out of the 5 times his fights have gone the distance. He has been submitted one time over the course of his career but come wednesday night when he faces off against Janne My, he will surely be looking to submit his opponent using his bjj brown belt skills if he gets the fight to the ground. "Frodo" will have the slight edge in experience over Janne "The Finnisher" My when they do go toe to toe. My will be trying to outwork his opponent with punches using his superb boxing skills and if he can keep the fight standing he stands a good chance of convincing the judges in his favor. With the ground skills of a purple belt and 2 submission victories, it doesn't seem like "The Finnisher" will be doing much finishing this time but should the fight get to the ground all is not lost as he has the experience to get back to the standup and could still prove his dominance there. But with 3 knockout losses on his record it would seem that he will need to be very careful when defending the ground and pound of his opponent.

My pick is Alfredo Amarena via 2nd round tko

After that is a heavyweight bout between:

Vito Scaletta v Ryan Sosha

"The Italian Bomber" Vito Scaletta has been known to drop some serious bombs. In his 6 profesional bouts he has knocked out 3 of his opponents, including the granite chinned Andrei Arlovski. Should he keep the fight standing and connect with just a few of his dynamite punches he is so well known for, Scaletta will once again claim another victory in the EMMA octagon. His opponent Ryan "Dont Play" Sosha will without question be looking for the takedown to get this one to the mat as soon as possible. with his purple belt superiority over Scaletta's white belt, he could potentially finish this fight in a matter of seconds. However scoring the takedown is not going to be simple at all. Sosha has competent wrestling skills himself and facing Scaletta's strong wrestling and the fact that only 10% of the takedown attempts have ever gotten Scaletta to the ground, it doesn't look like this fight will be going his way.

My pick is Vito Scaletta via 1st round KO

Next will be a 170lb matchup:

Jorik Berger v Pablo Gomez

Jorik Berger will be facing Pablo Gomez this coming Wendesday night in his second fight with EMMA. So far he has shown us that he has dangerous ground and pound abilities in his debut with the organisation when he TKO'd Craken Skulls. But Pablo Gomez is a much more dangerous customer when it comes to grappling. Berger will need to be weary of Gomez's BJJ brown belt should he take it to the ground as Gomez has proven to have a very dangerous guard in the past. Keeping the fight standing shouldn't be too difficult with his wonderful wrestling skills and coupled with his respectable boxing and strong muay thai, Jorik Berger could well get his arm raised at the end of the night if he can prove his standup superiority. Will we see Berger score a knockout in the standup or will he be taking the fight to the ground where he is most comfortable and risk getting submitted for the second time in his career?

My pick is Jorik Berger via UD

This evenings co-main event will feature a welterweight matchup:

Stock Pile v Hendrik Daross

Stock Pile is a seasoned veteran of EMMA who has seen his share of wins and losses. Lately he has been seeing a bit more of the losing and though he is on a 3 fight losing skid, he will still be looking to pick up another W in the EMMA octagon come wednsday. Stock Pile's recipe for success will be his strong ground game. With superb wrestling and a purple belt in BJJ he has what it takes to take the fight to the ground and finish the fight. Pile will be looking to maintain a dominant position and put his ground and pound to work and if he can keep it on the ground long enough and land some good shots he will be getting that ever elusive win he has been longing for. Undefeated at 4-0, Hendrik Daross has one big advantage in this fight and that is his muay thai. To remain undefeated he will want to keep this fight in the standup and put his powerful kicks and punches to work. So far none have been able to take Daross to the ground but facing a very skilled wrestler could change that and his winning streak could come to an end if he does not make it back to his feet.

My pick is: Hendrik Daross via 2nd round head kick TKO

The main event of this evenining will be a 135 lb matchup:

Randall Johnson v Going Nutz

Randall Johnson is a persistant fighter who win or lose always gets the takedown. In every single one of his fights he has managed to take down his opponent at least once. His strongest avenue is his wrestling and though he hasn't always been very effective with his ground and pound he has managed to win the judges decision 4 times in 6 bouts. Johnson is coming off a loss to former bantamweight champ Sayid jarrah and is hoping to bounce back with another win when he faces Going Nutz. But going to the ground is not going to work this time around. He will be facing a man who has an even stronger set of skills on the ground and if he does want to grab another win he will need to use his proficient muay thai and competent boxing to score some points with the judges. Going Nutz is riding a 2 fight losing skid and after being finished in those last 2 losses he is determined to get a finish of his own to redeem himself. It shouldn't be to difficult to get his opponent to the ground with the edge in wrestling but submitting him once he gets there is another story. Though Randall Johnson is only a blue belt in BJJ, he has never been submitted so it will be interesting to see if he can survive the ground game of Nutz.

This is a tough one to call but I think Going nutz might just take the UD.
