Passion and Perspective

                The forums have been on fire as of late concerning the desperate need to bring change to the game.  Fighters don’t train fast enough, they don’t decline fast enough, and we’re not even sure anymore why they do what they do in the ring.  The newer managers are being driven away.  There’s no way anyone can compete with the long term managers, and once the long term managers have had enough and quit, there won’t be anyone left to play, and the game will be over.  Game over man, game freaking over.

                My initial response was to get irritated at all of the whining.  Don’t they realize they have a gem of a game here?  I can tailor make a fighter with all kinds of styles, and pit him against other fighters made by managers all over the world!  There are hidden, mysterious qualities about my fighters that I can attempt to learn through fighting, and yet never exactly quantitatively know. I can build organizations and alliances, and the list goes as far as my imagination will allow.

                Then I realized, that they were speaking out of a love for the game.  Although rash, and sometimes unhelpful in tone, they were trying to make better something they enjoyed.  Who would bother to post and repost about something they didn’t care about?

                Take this perspective from a new manager. Be as helpful as possible, and yet patiently enjoy the game as you wait. Enjoy the ride. It’s clear the game creator listens, and is working.  He also may know something about the inner workings you don’t.  If that change you wanted never comes, remember the famous paraphrase of Chesterton’s work that states, “Don’t take a fence down until you know why it was put up”.
