KRT 85 – Ray vs Yu was a mixed martial arts event held by Kage Ryu Taijutsu on March 29, 2013 at the sold out Hard Knocks Casino & Arena in Tokyo, Japan.

Background

Jayden Ray is a two time world heavyweight champion. He has shown absolute dominance in his KRT tenure; a run that has culminated in four straight victories by way of knockout. In his most recent performance he brutally knocked out Leeroy Russo for the vacant heavyweight title. His first title defense will be the most important as he solidifies himself as a top three heavyweight in Tokyo.

Jack Yu is having none of it. He is an experienced veteran of the sport that has been in there with the best that Tokyo has to offer. He is a crowd favorite because his fights either end in a brutal beat down at his hands or he falls trying to make it happen. Also, don't be fooled; he has a dangerous ground game as well.

Official Results

-[Heavyweight Championship bout]: Jayden Ray def. Jack Yu via Submission (Strikes) at 0:47 of round 2 to retain the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world!

-[Review]: What a fight! The challenger, Jack Yu, may have been ahead if this were a standard fight under the ten point must system. Yu pushed the pace early with strikes; he snagged a takedown and was hunting for a submission. The champion was sneaky, however, and hit a scissor sweep that he used to stand up. The second round comes and the challenger is bloody and tired. The champion looked to be the fresher of the two fighters. While Jack Yu was swinging wild, Jayden Ray picked his shots; eventually landing a big left hand that set it all up. In the end, Jack Yu went down and couldn't take anymore punishment from the hard hitting champion and he called it quits with three little taps.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Dennis Oakley def. Leeroy Russo via KO (Punch) at 2:16 of round 1.

-[Review]: Former AJFC heavyweight champion Dennis Oakley showed his class in is decimation of former IFT and VERSUS champion Leeroy Russo. Russo was unable to land anything against the fearsome striker. In the end, Oakley left Russo unconscious on the mat, potentially earning himself a shot at the KRT heavyweight crown.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Scott Thorpe def. Jacob Bryan Batungbakal via KO (Punch) at 0:35 of round 1.

-[Review]: This was a one sided beating. Scott Thorpe was ripping shots into Batungbakal from the get-go before finally knocking him out cold with an uppercut from hell.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Rocky The Hitman def. Alex Kukushkin via KO (Strikes) at 7:56 of round 1.

-[Review]: The Hitman strikes again! Rocky knew he wouldn't last long if he let Kukushkin get to work on the feet so he kept dragging him down like a bulldog. From there he would tee off with ground n pound which is how he eventually ended the fight.

-[Bantamweight bout]: Riley Davis def. Nunca Subestime O Palmeiras via Submission (Armbar) at 0:51 of round 1.

-[Review]: O Palmeiras went to work immediately; he took Davis down lightning quick and pushed for the inevitable submission that ended the fight.

-[Bantamweight bout]: Akira Ishikawa def. Tombstone Terry via Submission (Armbar) at 2:37 of round 2.

-[Review]: Ishikawa dominated this fight with positioning and serious ground n pound before locking in the fight ending armbar.

-[Featherweight bout]: Daryl Palumbo def. Yoon Chung Kim via TKO (Strikes) at 1:08 of round 1.

-[Review]: Chung Kim came out super aggressive trying to finish Palumbo quickly. He paid the price for his over-aggression, however, as Palumbo threw but two punch combinations and put Yoon Chung Kim away. This one was over before it could even begin.

-[Lightweight bout]: Tomi Atomi def. Woohun Do via Submission (Triangle Armbar) at 4:25 of round 1.

-[Review]: About ten weeks passed since their first meeting where Atomi submitted Woohun Do with an armbar. This fight was almost identical in that Woohun Do got a takedown and fell before the submission prowess of Tomi Atomi.

-[Bantamweight bout]: Cody Easton def. The Hulk via KO (Punch) at 9:48 of round 1.

-[Review]: Cody Easton greatly outstruck The Hulk for the duration of this fight before finishing with a nightmare series of punches.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Alonzo Harris def. Johnny Stryker via TKO (Strikes) at 9:58 of round 1.

-[Review]: Stryker got a takedown immediately but soon found himself in a series of increasingly desperate positions as he rolled with Harris. First the sweep, then Harris moved to mount, then took Stryker's back. However, the submission game of Alonzo Harris was proven to be non-existant as he held such a dominant position until the referee stood the fight up. Once on the feet, Harris peppered Stryker, knocking him down not once but twice before forcing the referee to step in and halt the contest.

Be sure to tune in next time for the climatic finale of the exciting light-heavyweight championship tournament! Forrest Griffin looks to solidify himself as the undisputed champion of the world as he takes on AJFC vet Wanderlei Silva.

Don't miss it! Only at the Shinjuku Indoor Arena and only at Kage Ryu Taujutsu. April 3, 2013.
