UNDER CARD

Featherweight Fight

#25 Josef Urrah (1-0 NGF) v #24 Harrold Scott (0-1 NGF)

Josef Urrah and Harrold Scott were both making their career debut in this one, I wish I could tell you it was memorable, but I can’t.  Josef Urrah looked very strong in this one; he pushed the pace and controlled the fight.  Harrold Scott looked down right awful in this one, he had no game plan and he looked lost and out of place in this one, not even landing a strike.  Urrah looked good standing and on the ground, totally dominating this one and winning by TKO at 4:56 of the 1st.  I will be interested to see how Urrah responds in his next fight.

Featherweight Fight

#21 Mark Reynolds (2-0 NGF) v #20 Dirk Diggler (4-5 NGF)

I was looking forward to seeing this, I thought Dirk Diggler was going to push the pace, he is a good exciting fighter, but he came out with a completely different game plan and it back fired.  Mark Reynolds is a good solid fighter, but Diggler didn’t make him work all that hard.  Diggler came out and looked like he wanted to make this a clinch fight.  As he came forward, Reynolds was able to land big shots and do major damage.  It was a bad timed duck by Diggler that did him in, Reynolds countered with a huge uppercut and rocked Diggler.  This fight was all over at 3:06 of the 1st when Reynolds was able to land another huge uppercut and putting Dirk out on his feet.  The uppercut was one of the nastiest punches I’ve seen in the NGF and earned the KOTN and should be in the KOTY running as well.

Heavyweight Fight

#18 Armand Battailen (7-3, 3-2 NGF) v #19 Dwayne Johnson (4-2, 2-2 NGF)

Armand Battailen was in a bad place, he doubted himself, he even had talked to the media about possibly not renewing his contract after this fight, talking about walking away from fighting for a while, well that all changes after dominating someone!  Battailen came out in this one, determined, angry and mean.  He was active, countering and aggressive; he was first to the punch or kick the entire fight, never letting Dwayne Johnson get comfortable.    Johnson was on his heals most of the fight, often getting drilled by 2 or 3 punches and while trying to counter, ended up just swinging at air.  By the 3rd round Johnson had no legs; they were completely battered with red welts.   Battailen won all 3 rounds and ended the fight landing 47-53 head punches, 10 of 15 body punches, 6 of 19 head kicks, 46 of 54 leg kicks and 19 of 26 body kicks.  This had to be the fight of the night, with all the strikes landed, you had to give it up for Johnson who showed incredible heart and a granite chin.

Middleweight Fight

#25 Bennie Wilson (5-6 NGF) v #13 Ivan Dulin (6-2, 1-0 NGF)

Ivan Dulin looks like the real deal after his first NGF fight vs Bennie Wilson.  Dulin has nasty elbows that cut nearly everyone he hits.  He controlled this one, took the fight to the clinch and simply destroyed Wilson.  Bennie had no answer for Dulin, his game plan was to keep this fight out of the clinch, he tried, but he was pummeled.  He couldn’t land anything and he could get out of the way of anything.  Dulin was able to land 11 of his 29 elbows attempted in the clinch and he landed a big one that started the problems for Wilson.  After a big elbow landed on the temple of Wilson, Dulin followed it up with 2 huge knees and this one was over at 4:58 of the 1st.

Welterweight Fight

#25 Jongsanan Fairtex (6-3, 0-3 NGF) v #21 Pavel Petrov (6-5, 2-3 NGF)

Jongsanan Fairtex came into the NGF with a 6-0 career record, but he looks to have lost his way since joining.  Fairtex looked down and his body language was not good as he entered the octagon.  He used to have a swagger, he would enter the cage and run, jump and have a death stair, he didn’t do any of that last night.  He entered very somber and he didn’t make eye contact at all until the fight started.  And after the bell rang, it was the very first punch from Pavel Petrov, a body shot, that almost instantly took the breath out of Fairtex.  Although he did recover, he never was in this one, Petrov was very active, he was loading up, stalking Faritex, and eventually Petrov got inside and landed a beautiful combination and rocked Fairtex and had him jelly legged.  The fight ended violently with a huge hook that buckled Jongsanan’s legs which sent him, off balanced, back peddling to the cage.  Petrov didn’t hesitate and he moved in for the kill and the fight was stopped after Petrov was able to land a jab and then another huge hook.  I don’t know what’s wrong with Fairtex, but he has to get back and regroup.  Petrov looked fantastic, he needs to keep this going and get on some sort of winning streak.

MAIN CARD

Lightweight Fight

#22 Jack Fry (12-6, 1-1 NGF) v #11 Varshik Gerich (9-4 NGF)

In this fight you got to see how good of a fighter Jack Fry really is.  In his NGF debut we didn’t really get to see everything he has to offer, but this one was much better.  Varshik Gerich came out in this one and wanted to get the fight to the mat, like I previewed.  He got his take down and proceeded to pound on Fry.  As all his fights, Fry couldn’t improve, he just wiggled around and played defense, he couldn’t do anything from the mat and this fight was almost over in the 1st.  Gerich was able to improve twice out of his 3 attempts and he landed 12 of 22 ground strikes.  In the 2nd Jack was able to find his range, he looked better and he stuffed all the attempted takedowns from Gerich.  Fry was able to land more strikes, but at the end of the round, it was clear, both fighters were exhausted.  The third was back and forth with both fighters taking turns being the more aggressive fighter.  There were a lot of kicks fired in the 3rd, but most missed.  It went to the judges and all 3 scored it 29-28 in favor of Jack Fry.  This was a really good fight, both guys fought hard and it was a very close fight. I for one wouldn’t mind seeing these two again.

Lightweight Fight

#8 Lance Rock (8-8, 6-3 NGF) v #3 Clean Jaude Damn Vame (5-2 NGF)

This was one of those fights that I had marked on my calendar with a big CW for can’t wait!  I was not disappointed.  I was surprised, because this fight ended up on the ground and it spent more time on the ground then standing, but it was fantastic action on the mat.  The bell rang and Vame came out with kicks, trying to knock Rocks head off.  Rock was struck, but he was the one who landed the first significant strike.  He moved in slow, then jumped in with a combination that had a uppercut followed by a hard hook land perfectly on Vames jaw, shaking Clean Jaude and staggering him.  After Vame recovered, Rock moved in and got the takedown just 50 seconds into the round.  The rest of the round would be spent on the mat, both fighters stayed very active, nice shots from Rock landed and Vame did get some decent offense from the bottom position as well.  In the 2nd, Vame once again started with head kicks, this time one landed and snapped Rocks head, and after Rocks hands came back down, a nasty cut was reviled.   Vame was in beast mode after that kick and he was all over Rock, landing another head kick and later rocking Rock with a quick inside hook to his forehead.  Seconds later, Vame landed the knock out shot, a head kick that sent Rock to the mat, but the ref did not stop the fight, so Vame jumped on Rock and pounded him into submission.  This one was over 51 seconds into the 2nd.  Rock looked good, Vame looked awesome, this one was a great fight!

Heavyweight Fight

#6 Oleg Alekseev (9-6, 5-4 NGF) v #4 Polish Engineer (9-4, 4-1 NGF)

This was a very important fight, if Oleg Alekseev won, he would put himself right into the title contender talk, if Polish Engineer won, he’d be the #1 contender with Leifur Le’s career once again in question.  The bell rang, and 5 seconds in Engineer launched a uppercut from hell, right on the button of Alekseev and the question of who would come out and take this fight was answered.  The now bloody Alekseev shook off the punch and did rebound fine and actually looked very quick, avoiding a lot of the early strikes from Engineer.  Alekseev then was able to get the takedown and you could feel that the Engineer fans might have thought this one was over, but a rare mistake from Alekseev allowed Engineer to get into Alekseevs guard and out of trouble.  The referee stood the fighters up moments later, this allowed Engineer to get back where he wanted, standing, and seconds after the stand up, Engineer was able to land another huge uppercut, causing blood to squirt from Alekseevs cut.  The round ended with Engineer able to land 5 or 6 more good strikes.  The cut was terrible, Alekseev was dazed and confused and he was breathing very heavy through his mouth as the 2nd round began.  You could sense that Engineer realized that this fight almost was over at the end of the 1st and he wasn’t going to let this round go long.  The bell rang and Engineer charged out, stopped and landed a monster right hook that blasted Alekseev and sent him crashing to the mat.  Engineer dove on top and pounded Alekseev until the fight was stopped just 5 seconds into the 2nd.  Polish Engineer will now face Sam Winchester for the heavyweight title.

Co-Main Event:

Welterweight Fight

#12 Yusuke Urameshi (8-5, 0-1 NGF)v #4 Allan Starsky (10-2, 2-1 NGF)

I want to say I was surprised by the outcome of this one, but I wasn’t, it was almost just how I previewed it would be.  Allan Starsky is a monster and he is very or was very upset that he lost his last fight after being told he would get a title shot with a win.  In this one, he was so fired up, everything coming out of his camp was that he looked great and it was the best camp he’s had.  Yusuke Urameshi is a very talented fighter, a guy I think could be one to watch, someone I think could move up the ranks very quickly, he was just over matched in this one.  The fight started with both fighters looking good, both seemed to be taking their time, trying to find their range.  Urameshi did land some nice strikes including a body shot that had Starsky wincing in pain.  But at the round went, you could see Starsky coming along, he was landing some nice, leg kick, punch combos and you could tell Urameshi was dropping his hand, trying to guess which strike was coming.  The guessing game came to a quick and violent end when Starsky did a little switch uppercut.  It looked like he would fire a leg kick, but fired off a massive uppercut that drilled Urameshi right on the nose, sending him to the mat and this fight was stopped at the 2:24 mark of the 1st.  This was another fight ender that could have been KOTN, there probably could have been a 5 way tie for KOTN in fact.  Starsky has now moved himself into 1 win away from getting a title shot.

Main Event

Light Heavyweight Fight

#3 Scotty Bennet (14-0, 0-0 NGF) v #17 Noob Saibot (7-3, 1-1 NGF)

This was a fantastic matchup, Scotty Bennet the un defeated NGF rookie vs Noob Saibot, the masked bjj black belt.  There was a report that came out that said Bennet had hurt himself a few days ago and that the injury could possibly hamper him when he tried to fight from his back.  Bennet and his camp issued a statement that asked for a “gentleman’s agreement to keep the fight standing.”  Saibot’s camp didn’t respond.  As the fight began, Saibot looked like he might have agreed with the agreement, as he didn’t go for a takedown, but he instead took this fight to the clinch.  When the fight was in the clinch, it almost looked like Saibot was trying to take it easy; he wasn’t overly aggressive like we know him to be, so Bennet was able to land as many strikes as Saibot.  The round was ending and Saibot did try to land a few very strong uppercuts and as it ended, I would say he got the nod in the round, but he just didn’t do a lot of damage, and I am perplexed why he didn’t try to get the fight to the mat, he only attempted 1 takedown and that was a halfhearted attempt.  In the 2nd it was all Bennet, Saibot was throwing wild strikes that weren’t coming close to landing and Bennet was countering nicely, jabs and kicks landing perfectly.  It was a big hood to the ribs of Saibot that did the most damage and seconds after Saibot was hurt by that punch, Bennet bum rushed him throwing punch after punch and knocking Saibot up against the cage, Bennet continued his attack and after 5 or 6 more strikes, Saibot fell to the floor and this one was over 1:19 of the 2nd round.  Bennet now moves to 14-0 in his career, he called for a title shot after the fight, but it’s unclear if he’ll get one just yet.
