MAIN CARD

Main Event

Light Heavyweight Title Fight

#2 Johnny Jackson (11-3, 2-0 NGF) v #1 Brett Riverboat (11-2, 6-2 NGF)

Unbelievable end to this card between two of the best fighters in all MMA in the light heavyweight division.  Johnny Jackson will try and make it 8 straight wins by beating Brett Riverboat and to become the new champion.  Brett Riverboat is on a 6 fight winning streak which has seen him beat some of the best fighters in the division.  Jackson is a brilliant stand up fighter, often using his remarkable Muay Thai skills to punish his opponents with Thai punches; he is landing 69% of his 16 averaged clinch head punches per fight.  He also uses very hard kicks, he actually will throw more kicks then punches standing.  Riverboat, one of the most exciting fighters in the NGF, he is also one of the deadliest as he has a skill for cutting his opponents.  He loves to stand and drop bombs, he has finished all 11 wins by (T)KO and usually ends a fight quickly.  He will spend time in the clinch and avoids the ground.  Riverboat hasn’t had great defense vs the kicks, so this could be a problem.  I don’t see many holes in either fighter’s game; this one is going to be awesome!  PREDICTION: Riverboat 2nd round TKO

Co-Main Event:

Heavyweight Fight

#6 Vadim Kalashnikov (12-4, 1-0 NGF) v #15 Elbrys Gora (12-3, 0-2 NGF)

The co-main event is such a good one; I’m so excited to see these two fight.  Vadim Kalashnikov is such a destructive fighter, he goes out and tries to kill his opponent, I’m serious, this guy is flat out nasty.  He has deadly head kicks and will look to end a fight quick, he has 12 fights that have been finished inside the 1st round, including 9 straight.  He will stay standing at all costs, he can fight in the clinch as well and has elite Muay Thai skills.  He will throw a lot of strikes, looking to land big shots, but he does tend to miss a good portion.  Elbrys Gora is a monster, but he has fallen on some hard times since getting into the NGF, he had won 8 straight before coming to the NGF and now he rides a 2 fight losing streak.  This is the first time Gora has had any problems in his career, let’s see how he turns this around.  Gora is an exceptional wrestler and a black belt in bjj, he will certainly look to get this fight to the mat instantly.  He will do very little standing, instead spend any time standing trying to shoot and get takedowns.  Once he gets it, he looks for submissions, ground strikes are used only to try and get his opponent to move his arms to block, then he’s back to locking in a choke or something like that.  Here’s the problem with Gora’s game, his stand up is so bad that he becomes a punching bag as he stands and looks for a takedown.  The other problem is he cuts very easily, a big problem 2 fights ago when he lost due to a cut stoppage.  When he stands and gets hit by big powerful guys, like Kalashnikov, problems happen.  This fight will be all over if it gets to the mat, Kalashnikov is no match for Gora.   PREDICTION:  Gora 1st round submission

Featherweight Title Fight

#2 Marcos Silva (9-4, 1-0 NGF) v #1 Vaughn Shaunessey (14-5, 2-0 NGF)

This will be a epic clash for the featherweight title between two of the best in the division.  Marcos Silva looked awesome in his NGF debut vs Gideon Draper by getting a 1st round TKO.  At 31 years old, this will be Silva’s first title fight in his career and his camp has said he’s ready!  A will rounded fighter, Silva can fight anywhere.  He will usually get a fight to the mat, he is averaging over 7 ground strikes per fight, the most strikes he attempts.  He has a brown belt in bjj and he has 3 submission victories in his career.  The problem with Silva is his lack of power at times.  Sometimes his game doesn’t go over well with the judges, he has lost 3 fights by decision, and in those he usually doesn’t land many strikes, but tries take downs and submission.  Vaughn Shaunessey has found new life since coming into the NGF.  He was on a 3 fight losing streak before signing and since he’s won 2 straight including the championship.  Shaunessey likes to stand up, he has superb kicks that he loves to use and will take out his opponents legs; he’s averaging over 10 leg kicks per fight.  He will fight in the clinch; he’s landing 51% of knees to the body, so he can wear his opponent out.  The problem for this matchup is the lack of ground game Shaunessey has shown.  He has done nothing on the mat, he’s only improving his position 17% of the time, while his opponents have done so 43%.  He’s also allowing 55% of ground strikes to land and that is not a good thing, especially with Silva as the opponent in this one.  I could see a stand up fight going to Shaunessey, but if this one goes to the mat, Silva might have his way.   PREDICTION:  Silva 2nd round submission

Light Heavyweight Fight

#11 Ivan Grozni (10-4, 3-2 NGF) v #7 Rogerio Mustacho (7-3, 6-3 NGF)

Here is a fight between two of my favorite fighter in the NGF, Ivan Grozni and Rogerio Mustacho.  These two met once before at NGF 29 with Rogerio getting the 2nd round TKO win.  Grozni is a violent fighter, he will look to end a fight and do it viciously, he has finished all 10 of his wins with a (T)KO.  Grozni has skill, but he doesn’t or hasn’t shown all his skills yet.  He has been a 1 dimensional fighter to this point, he stand and throws punches.  He’ll average over 13 punches per fight and no kicks.  The little time he’s spent in the clinch or on the ground really hasn’t told us anything.  Rogerio Mustacho is coming into this one on a 2 fight losing streak and has seen himself fall from inside the top 3 to 7th in the rankings.  This one is a totally different fight then his last 2, he fought a well-rounded fighter in Jackson, then a bjj specialist in Botisoff and now a puncher in Grozni.  I think Mustacho will try and get this fight to the ground; he wants to stay away from Grozni’s power.  Mustacho has landed 85% of his ground strikes so far, so this is his advantage in this fight.  If Rogerio keeps it standing, I think he is out quick, but if he can control this fight, get it to the mat, I think he wins.  PREDICTION:  Mustacho 2nd round submission

Bantamweight Fight

#6 Yoshiteru Goto (7-6-1, 1-0 NGF) v #8 Jon Erik Andersen (11-8, 5-4 NGF)

Yoshiteru Goto looked fantastic in his NGF debut with a UD win over Bill Nevin in a FOTN performance.  Goto is very well rounded, he’ll fight anywhere and he can control a fight anywhere.  He prefers to stay standing, fighting with a good mix of punches (16.9 per fight) and kicks (16 per fight).  He is a quick fighter, often darting in, landing and getting back out of range before any counters are landed, only 37% of punches have landed by his opponents and only 24% of kicks have landed.  Jon Erik Andersen is 3-1 in his last 4 and is coming off an impressive UD win over Ron Sieler in his last fight.  5 years the elder of Goto, JEA can fight anywhere also.  He averages over 15 punches standing per fight, but he also will take a fight in the clinch where he can use elbows to do damage.  Andersen can win a fight by decision, submission and TKO, so he is a very dangerous fighter.  JEA has some weaknesses, he tends to get hit a lot more then he hits his opponents, 73% of punches have landed on JEA and he has been taken down at a 55% clip, not good numbers.  And Andersen has been simply beaten up in the clinch; opponents have landed 99% of the 5.6 averaged head punches in the clinch, ouch!  I don’t know about this one, Goto is a very good striker and if JEA continues the porous defense he’s shown, this one goes Goto’s way.    PREDICTION:  Goto 2nd round TKO

 PRELIM CARD

Featherweight Fight

#16 Barry Allen (8-1, 0-0 NGF) v #6 Gideon Draper (4-2, 0-1 NGF)

Gideon Draper takes a short notice fight in this one, taking the fight on just 7 days’ notice.  Barry Allen makes his NGF debut in this one, he comes in 8-1 and winner of his last 4 fights.  Allen, a stand up fighter, will usually mix in punches with kicks, he’ll also go to the clinch where he has excellent knees.  Gideon Draper is another guy who likes to keep a fight standing.  He’s landing over 70% of his punches, but he is also 2 for 2 in takedowns, so he can wrestle his way to a victory too.  This one will be good, I’m thinking all stand up in this one, can’t wait.   PREDICTION:  Allen 2nd round TKO

Light Heavyweight Fight

#13 Cal Paxton (3-1, 0-0 NGF) v #17 Donald Duck (6-1, 1-0 NGF)

Cal Paxton will get his first taste of real competition in this one.  He lost his 1st career fight, but now is on a 3 fight winning streak.  He’s all stand up and has landed a very high percentage of strikes to this point, 100% leg and head kicks, 100% of combinations and 81% of his head punches.  He has not been good on the ground, so there is his weak point.  Donald Duck is a stand up fighter also, so this could be a very fun fight.  Duck will attack from the bell, he’ll be aggressive, averaging over 26 punches per fight and landing 62% of them.  Duck will drop down and has a brown belt in bjj, so he can lock up a submission when he feels like ending it.   PREDICTION:  Duck 2nd round submission

Featherweight Fight

#19 Yukioris Gamboa (4-2, 0-1 NGF) v #14 Jack Brown (4-2-1, 1-0 NGF)

The outspoken Jack Brown will try and move up the ranks by defeating the non-enthused Yukioris Gamboa.  Brown entered the NGF, called out Andreas Almdudler and backed it up.  “The Preacher” has decent power, but he’ll look to use his sensational wrestling skills to get a fight to the mat and then unload some of the best ground and pound in the NGF.  Brown is averaging over 34 ground strikes a fight and landing 84% of them.  Yukioris Gamboa is one of the saddest fighters in the NGF, and I don’t mean fighting style, he’s just a sad guy, no moral what so ever.  I’m not sure what his manager Mark Slystarr is doing, I mean, give the guy some new clothes for the love of god!  Gamboa is a good stand up fighter, but he’s been excellent in the clinch, landing 100% of his averaged 9.5 punches.  His weak point is he hasn’t been good on the ground, he’s been submitted once and 44% of ground strikes land.     PREDICTION:  Brown 1st round TKO

Middleweight Fight

#26 Bennie Wilson (5-6 NGF) v #15 Leroy Guns (6-4, 1-0 NGF)

Win one, lose one, win two, lose two, that seems to be what Bennie Wilson is.  Wilson is just a average fighter, he fights hard and is aggressive, but he’s all or nothing.  He lands a very low percentage of punches and he’ll either win by TKO or lose by TKO, only 2 fights have gotten past round one.  He has a suspect chin as well.  Leroy Guns is almost a mirror image of Wilson, only 2 fights have gotten past round 1 and he too has a suspect chin.  He did look good his last fight, so maybe he’s turned things around.  Guns will look to go to the ground more than Wilson will, so that could be where he attacks, but he’s a good stand up fighter, so I’m hoping he keeps it standing, because this could have an explosive finish if it does.  PREDICTION:  Guns 1st round KO

Bantamweight Fight

#19 Yun Fat Chow (2-1, 0-1 NGF) v #12 John Keel (5-2, 0-0 NGF)

Yun Fat Chow looks very skilled and should be a very good fighter, but he hasn’t had a great showing so far in NGF.  A debut loss where he looked very good, he didn’t make his next fight and got a no contest.  Chow will get into some real brawls, he is a stand up fighter, but he’ll go to the clinch often where he has landed 79% of his 14 elbows attempted per fight.  John Keel makes his NGF debut in this one coming in with a reputation of having solid all-around skills.  He does have KO power; he knocked out his las opponent in 39 seconds.  In 7 fights, he’s been pretty much all stand up; he hasn’t been good on the mat, so Chow might be able to change game plans and use his brown belt in this one.  Keel has landed 58% of his averaged 26.6 head punches and he is also averaging over 10 kicks per fight.  He has good striking defense, but he has been worked over on the mat.  Should be a good one!  PREDICTION:  Chow 2nd round TKO
