UNDER CARD

Featherweight Fight

#25 Black Morgan (2-3, 1-3 NGF) v #10 Stefan Burczymucha (3-1, 2-1 NGF)

Every heard the saying, “this fights going to be two hits, me hitting you and you hitting the floor.” Well, if you haven’t heard that, you saw that in this fight.  Okay, there were a few more hits, but only from one fighter.  A terrible showing by Black Morgan in this one, not one single…THING attempted by this guy.  Stefan Burczymucha showed awesome power and clinch work, he landed all but one strike and he destroyed Morgan with what could have been the KOTN at 50 seconds of the 1st.

Welterweight Fight

#8 James James (3-0, 1-0 NGF) v #22 Archie Stewart (3-2, 1-2 NGF)

As thought, this one turned into a ground fight, and it was awesome!  These two guys are fantastic on the ground, not boring; lay on top, but sweeps, subs, reverses, non-stop action.  James James looked fantastic in his NGF debut as he was mounted, but then was able to reverse and take Stewarts back, only to have Stewart later get a reverse.  James was able to get another sweep to get into mount and used that terrific ground and pound to end this fight at 4:57 of the 1st round.  A hard fought, action packed battle between two guys who will certainly be something big in this division.

Middleweight Fight

#23 Tak Snack (0-2 NGF) v #9 Alpha Male (12-7, 5-5 NGF)

Well give it up to the wiley ol veteran in this one.  Alpha Male was able to battle through a very hard 1st round and hammer out a win in this one against Tak Snack.  This was also a very fun fight, both these guys fought very hard, Male was a little quicker in this one as Snack was only able to land 1 of 20 combo attempts.  It was a Male combo that turned this fight in the 2nd, as the combo landed; it rocked Snack, a big right hand then landed by Male sent Snack to the canvas.  Male jumped on his back and dropped bombs until the ref stopped this one at 1:21 of round 2.

Lightweight Fight

#26 Jacob Hill (4-2 NGF) v #21 Oswaldo Barra (10-10, 1-2 NGF)

Well this one ended up being more entertaining than I thought…slightly.  It was a ground fight, which was not a surprise since these two spend most of their fights on the ground.  These two have excellent submission skills and as we learned in this one, elite submission defense skills as well.  There was no stand up to talk about, Oswaldo Barra wasn’t able to get Hill down and Hill was able to go 5-5 in takedowns from the clinch.  Hill dominated the ground game, he was unbelievable in this one with his bjj, he improved his position 8 of 17 times, he landed 12 of 15 ground strikes and Barra was 0 for 12 in ground strikes and 0 for 25 in submission attempts.  Barra had really one plan, submit Hill, he couldn’t do it and the judges saw past those 25 sub attempts and gave Hill the UD win.

Lightweight Fight

#25 DoDo Bird (2-1 NGF) v #23 Wade Dew (7-3, 2-2 NGF)

Well, I was excited about this one, but it was excitement to see BOTH fighters, instead we saw a monstrous beat down by one fighter.  DoDo Bird was exceptional in this one, he was quick, he was lean and he looked great.  He was able to land all 17 head punches standing, 10 of 10 leg kicks and 30 of 33 body kicks, while holding Wade Drew to just 1 of 10 in head punches, 2 of 16 in body punches and 3 of 20 on his combinations.  It was so one sided, I read tweets asking for Dews corner to throw in the towel!  Instead, what we saw was an awesome head kick that knocked Dew out cold, crashing into the canvas like a rag doll, and not only being awarded the KOTN but possibly the KOTY!

MAIN CARD

Super Heavyweight Fight

#11 Buddy Threadgood (5-4, 4-4 NGF) v #9 Samson Miodek (6-3, 1-1 NGF)

I think it’s pretty safe to say that any thought of Buddy Threadgood being a up and coming young fighter in the super heavyweight division has faded away like a fart in the wind.  Threadgood was shockingly out of shape in this one.  He looked slow and lost and Samson Miodek took this gift and kicked its ass!  Threadgood couldn’t stop a punch, his hands were down like we’ve never seen, like I said, he was so slow it was painful.  Miodek picked him apart, battering his face till one eye was nearly all the way shut.  Threadgood couldn’t land anything, he obviously was looking for one big punch, but he was late, he never could get the punch off as Miodek perfectly timed kicks and punches, but just for fun, he took the fight to the clinch, beat Buddy up there, and if that wasn’t good enough, he took him down where he was able to land 7 more ground strikes.  A truly dominating performance by Samson Miodek, as he destroys Buddy Threadgood and put him to sleep with a monster right hook at 1:54 of the 2nd round.  You have to wonder, what has happened to Buddy Threadgood?

Bantamweight Fight

#17 Tony Chu (2-2, 0-2 NGF) v #4 Yngwie Malmsteen (7-2, 6-2 NGF)

This one had the place rocking, Tony Chu and Yngwie Malmsteen had the crowd standing, cheering, oohing and aahing.  As I previewed, this one would be a stand up fight, and would be in the running for FOTN, well it was in the running and it ran away.  Each round was so hard fought and so close I can’t believe that judges came to a decision, I would have thought they would have just made it a draw and get these two to do it again.  Yngwie Malmsteen was very aggressive in this one, even more aggressive then we have seen in previous fights.  He pushed the action from the start, he passed his 20 head punch average in this one, attempting 49 of them and landing 17.  Some of the more significant punches however were his body shots, he was able to land 31 body shots, and a dozen or so really hurt Chu.  Tony was very good in this one too; he landed 15 head punches, and Malmsteen left this one very swollen in the face.  In the end, Malmsteen was able to land more strikes and more significant strikes in this one, he pushed the pace and controlled all 3 rounds and got the UD decision win.

Light Heavyweight Fight

#12 Michael Galustyan (7-2, 0-1 NGF) v #8 Dragon Warfist (4-1-1 NGF)

Michael Galustyan came in winner of 6 straight, after watching him in this one, I have no idea how.  Galustyan came out and looked to do one thing, get a takedown.  Dragon Warfist landed the first significant strike of the fight, just 7 seconds in he hit Galustyan with a head kick that wobbled his knees and opened up a gash on the side of his face, right in the corner of the right eye.  Galustyan was able to get the fight to the mat, but he stalled, he attempted halfhearted strikes that on the score sheet read 5 for 33 in ground strikes, so even the judges didn’t think he was landing anything.  While standing, Warfist totally dominated, landing 6 of 10 head punches, and his kicking game was the weapon of choice, he was able to land 13 of 32 kicks.  Galustyan had the ref stand him up twice and another time, Warfist was able to get to his feet and Galustyan stayed on the mat, doing the butt crawl move wanting Warfist to come back down, but the ref stood him up on that as well.  Dragon Warfist looked good again and shows why he is a real contender and close to a title shot.  Michael Galustyan will look to rebound and try to start a different winning streak in his next fight.

Co-Main Event:

Welterweight Fight

#21 Ed Gein (11-8, 1-2 NGF) v #9 Adam Yauch (7-3 NGF)

Adam Yauch has shown us all one thing, he does have power and he can be deadly if he’s able to land his punches.  Yauch came out with the same look as always, he moves light on his feet, he bounces and will get his punches off quickly, he just doesn’t like to land pitter patter jabs, he likes to knock someones head off!  Ed Gein wasn’t really a match in this one, he got tagged 10 seconds into the fight and it opened up a cut under the left eye.  The big moment of the fight was a left, right to the body of all things, Yauch connected with a beautiful combination to the ribs of Gein, it clearly hurt him and he rolled away from Yauch in pain.  It was a straight right jab, then a quick, head kick from Yauch that put Gein down and when Yauch jumped on top and landed 4 more strikes the ref ended this one at 2:39 of the 1st.  The head kicks were a pleasant thing to see from Yauch, it’s something we haven’t seen until this fight, that’s a good sign.

Main Event

Lightweight Title Fight

#3 Pasi Nurminen (14-7-2, 3-2 NGF) v #1 Tolek Banan (12-1, 5-0 NGF)

What a title fight!  This was such a good and fun fight; this was a perfect ending to a fantastic card.  I thought Pasi Nurminen had enough to pull off the upset, he fought his butt off, but Tolek Banan is such a great fighter and champion, he would find a way to dig down and come up with another spectacular win.  The first saw Nurminen come straight at Banan, he controlled the center of the octagon and pushed the pace, he was able to land some good punches and kicks that had the champion guessing.  It was mostly Nurminen for the first minute and then Banan took over for the next few minutes.  Banan got the first take down, but Pasi was the one working submissions from the bottom.  The rest of the round went back and forth, but Banan seemed to get the better of the ground attack.  The 2nd was more great action, Nurminen once again was the aggressor, and he came straight out and had Banan on his heels for a good portion of the round.  Banan was able to rock Nurminen with a quick inside shot from the clinch, but Pasi recovered.  The 2nd was very close, but I was told that all three judges had it for Nurminen.  Before the 3rd, Tolek Banans corner said to him, “Watch him coming straight forward, time it, and end it.”  When the bell rang, Nurminen came straight out again, aggressive and Banan listened to his corner, he launched a jab that Nurminen walked straight into and his legs were gone.  Banan then hit the charging Nurminen with a monster uppercut, sending Nurminen back into the cage, Tolek followed with strikes and this fight was ended 21 seconds into the 3rd round and STILL YOUR LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION TOLEK BANAN!
