UPF 31: Banner Vs Kowalsky is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by Ultimate Pit Fighting (Hilo) on April 26, 2013 at the Hard Knocks Casino & Arena in Hilo, Hawaii.

Background

Boxing phenom Jesse Banner returns to the cage in this exciting main event. He takes on Brazilian Jujitsu ace Jan Kowalsky in an old fashioned striker-versus-grappler match-up. Both fighters are coming off multiple consecutive victories by way of stoppage which lends to the belief that this will be one hell of a fight.

In the co-main event, undefeated prospect Henkka Reem takes on top flight kickboxer Jeremy Kroft. Both of these guys win all of their fights via stoppage and neither has gone to a judge's decision.

Official Fight Card

Preliminary Card

-[Middleweight bout]: Josh Moore (3-6) versus Mark Matrione (1-3)

-[Preview]: Submission fighter Josh Moore takes on fellow grappler Mark Matrione in a fight that is likely do or die for Matrione. Matrione loves to land with ground n pound while hunting for a submission.

-[Bantamweight bout]: Peelay Shelding (0-0) versus Demetrious Johnson Jr (2-1)

-[Preview]: Peelay Shelding makes his debut against the Brazilian Jujitsu fighter Demetrious Johnson Jr in a battle of styles.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Wayne Pearson (1-1) versus Jimmy Stone (5-5)

-[Preview]: Muay Thai meets boxing in this exciting match-up. Wayne Pearson is a high level but inexperienced boxing stylist that has come to us from the regional QFC promotion. Jimmy Stone is a UPF vet that is coming off multiple consecutive defeats but believes that he has enough experience to defeat Pearson.

-[Bantamweight bout]: Victor Stevens (7-8) versus Kendrick Stagliano (3-10-1)

-[Preview]: Kickboxing sensation Victor Stevens looks to make it three in a row as he takes on the boxer: Kendrick Stagliano.

-[Bantamweight bout]: George Santos (12-10-1) Aaron Lynch (1-0)

-[Preview]: Muay Thai's own George Santos returns to the cage to take on former porn star and MMA neophyte Aaron Lynch. In his debut, Lynch used a catch and release clinch attack coupled with brutal leg and body kicks to defeat his regional opponent. Personally I'm very excited to see what kind of a splash Lynch can make in the developing bantamweight division.

Main Card

-[Middleweight bout]: Stefan Pruvhe (5-5) versus Chris Remnant (3-3)

-[Preview]: Stefan Pruvhe makes his return to the cage in an attempt to right his path as he takes on Jujitsu specialist Chris “Hack Saw” Remnant.

-[Bantamweight bout]: Mike Messner (4-2) versus Terry Aunor (7-2)

-[Preview]: Mike Messner graces the UPF fans once again with his Muay Thai style complete with accurate punches and brutal leg kicks. He will be welcoming UPF newcomer and Valhalla veteran Terry Aunor. Terry utilizes a boxing based attack to knock opponents out. Fun fact: Terry Aunor has been on three pay-per-view events in Japan and has a huge following as a result.

-[Welterweight bout]: Charlie Sheen (4-5) versus Julio Smith (9-9)

-[Preview]: The loud mouthed actor-turned-fighter Charlie Sheen returns to the cage in an exciting match with Julio Smith. As is expected, Sheen has talked plenty about Smith to the media. For his part, Smith hasn't allowed himself to get sucked into it thus far. Sheen utilizes a Muay Thai based attack while absorbing the strikes of his opponents to deliver his own. Julio Smith is extremely well rounded, holding a striking pedigree that rivals that of Sheen's as well as a very high level grappling game. Smith is a brown belt in Brazilian Jujitsu.

[Co-Main Event]

-[Middleweight bout]: Henkka Reem (5-0) versus Jeremy Kroft (7-3)

-[Preview]: Undefeated prospect Henkka Reem makes his much anticipated return to the cage as he takes on knockout artist Jeremy Kroft. Enough can't be said about the bright future that Reem seems to have before him; all five of his wins come by way of first round submission. On top of that, he is quickly becoming a fearsome boxer as well.

Jeremy Kroft isn't too concerned with Reem's striking though. Kroft is a high level Muay Thai style kickboxer who, despite having a low level of grappling skill, has many knockouts over high level opponents in the cage.

[Main Event]

-[Welterweight bout]: Jesse Banner (5-2) vesrus Jan Kowalsky (12-3)

-[Preview]: Boxing meets Jujitsu in this hot match-up. Jesse Banner is a dominant boxer that has won virtually all of his fights via knockout within ten minutes. Jan Kowalsky is a Jujitsu practitioner that lives for the sport. With eleven of his twelve wins coming via submission, it's easy to see just how good he really is. Kowalsky is a very popular fighter among fans which will bring a lot of eyeballs to this main event.
