HMMA 81 preview

Event Preview: HMMA 81 Stigu v Vladmirov
HEROIC
2013-05-11, London, Camden Conference Centre
Author:

Hello everybody im “Sunshine” Weston Markson accompanied by my co host Rudy “The Box” Knife, were here to bring you HMMA 81’s preview.  The event is headlined by a Heavyweight title fight between two great warriors.  The CO-MAIN event is between two lightweight contenders which will surely clear up the title picture a little more.  The card is great there are a lot of studs on this one but who doesn’t love title fights, number one contender matches, and HoF fighters gracing the HMMA cage?

Rudy:  Weston I suggest you shut your mouth clearly you didn’t mention the most important fight of the night…….”The Gracie Killer” Masahiko Kimura makes an appearance on the big show!  This event is live and on PPV from the Camden conference center in London  where 7000 fans are expected to be booing “The Gracie Killer” as he looks to take another fighters limbs home with him.

Weston:  You would mention that person.  Obviously you are really excited for that fight,  I think the fight im most excited for outside of the Main events, is the Mike Hunt and High Voltage fight.  It should be a great fight between two top contenders in the division.

MAIN EVENT

C "The Half Naked Man!" Mr Stigu (25-15) v 2nd  Fedor "Cannon" Vladimirov (13-4)             265 lbs title

Weston:  The Main event of HMMA 81 is the heavyweight championship fight between now champion Mr. Stigu, and challenger Fedor Vladimirov.  Almost one month ago it seems like we were saying the same thing about these two men but the roles were switched, that’s because Fedor Vladimirov was making his first title defense against Mr. Stigu, much like Stigu is Saturday.  Before his last fight Mr. Stigu let it be known this would be his last opportunity at a championship, if he lost he was to retire, but if he won he was to continue on until he losses the championship.  With these two fighters meeting before and Vladimirov coming out on top many thought this would be the outcome again and Stigu would retire and move on to training a new batch of up and comers, but a shocking victory gave Stigu his first ever title and allowed him to solidify what has been a great career that has now given him a title and bestowed upon him 11 of the night awards.

Rudy:  I will admit I was shocked when Stigu won last time, after seeing Vladimirov win the first fight I didn’t expect Stigu to come out and KO Fedor especially in only 22 seconds.  This is going to be one of the greatest rubber matches HMMA has seen yet, as these two men can end a fight at moments notice.  Stigu has won 21 of his 25 fights by KO,  and Vladimirov has won all of his fights by KO having never seen a decision whether it be by win or loss.  I see no reason to believe this will change one of these two men will leave the champion the other is going to the hospital for concussion evaluations.

Prediction:  This one doesn’t leave the first round I don’t know who will win but that’s my prediction.

CO-MAIN EVENT

6th Roy "The Wardog" Pittbull(18-7-1) v  5th  Naru "Käsi" Jarkko (21-9)

Weston:  The CO-MAIN EVENT of the evening a lightweight fight between two contenders looking to make the next step back into title contention, both men have had their chances at HMMA glory, but both have come up a little short.  Now they must face each other for an opportunity to advance their resume for another chance at the title.  The winner could very well be the next challenger to the title.

Rudy:  For whatever reason I find It amusing that both of these guys have 11 wins by stoppage, these two fighters have been known for legendary  wars inside the cage, although they have the ability to finish fights its their knack for putting on a good long show for the fans that have caught the notice of the believers.    This fight is going to be a very interesting war with both being so well rounded and hard to finish I expect a long battle between the two.   Jarkko has  an advantage on the ground, and Pittbull standing but both men are more then capable of holding their own in each others realms.  Its truly a toss up to see who wins this one…

Prediction:  Jarkko by decision

MAIN CARD

7th Mike Hunt (14-12) v  8th High Voltage (28-14-4)

Weston:  The last fight heading into the main events is a light-heavyweight showdown between High Voltage and Mike Hunt.   Hunt  and Voltage are both making their 3rd appearance in the HMMA cage after splitting their first two fights both men look to gain a big win and get in title contention.  In Voltage’s last fight he had the opportunity to grab the number one contenders crown and challenge the champion, but in the 3rd round he got caught and was sent home wondering what if, Hunt is no stranger to high profile fights so this one is right up his ally having been a champion elsewhere an opportunity to come to HMMA  and earn a shot at the title would be a wonderful addition to a great career resume, to get there he must first dispose of High Voltage and continue winning title eliminator fights.  This fight will tell us a lot about where both men stand in this division so which is taking a step forward?

Rudy:  This is a classic MMA matchup that brings back old school MMA with the Striker Voltage vs the Grappler Hunt.  Hunt has Olympic caliber wrestling, while Voltage is equally as skilled in Muy Thai.  Will we see Mike Hunt ground Voltage and wear him down until he can TKO him or submit him?  Or will we see the nasty power and Muy Thai of High Voltage earn a 22nd (t)KO victory?

Prediction:   whoever wins dictates where the fight takes place…..i think im leaning towards Voltage by TKO.

Monte “Count” Christo (20-15)  v 4th  "mr decision"  Mike Tyson (18-9-1)

Weston:  The “Count” Monte Christo has picked up his first win inside the HMMA cage, just as former champion Mike Tyson showed a kink his armor and ended his unbelievable run as HMMA lightweight champion.  After the fight Tyson was asked whats next?  He said…” I dunno maybe Monte Christo…yeah that would be fun, maybe I can knock him out that would be cool”.  This fight is an opportunity for Monte Christo to live up to the hype he garnered before entering HMMA, a chance to knock off one of the best in the division and move right into title contention.  It could also be an chance for the former champion to get his mojo back and start another path towards getting his title back.

Rudy:  This has the potential to be the fight of the night, these guys have never been shy about taking the center of the cage and trading, neither have they been shy about using their well rounded game to score points by taking the fight to the ground.  Wherever this fight takes place expect it to be highly contested back and forth matchup.  Christo has more power winning 15 fights by (T)KO, but he also doesn’t have as good of a chin as Tyson, who has only been stopped one time in his 9 career losses.  Will Christo pull off an upset by adding another victim to his (T)KO column or will Tyson be able to whether the storm and get just his 6th (t)KO?

Prediction:  I think Christo could pull off the upset here.

3rd "Firestarter" Calvin Duran  (15-4) v  2nd Mr Translucent (15-8)

Weston:  The second fight on the main card is being billed as a middleweight number one contenders match, between former number one contender Calvin Duran and up and comer Mr. Translucent.   Since joining HMMA Translucent’s stock has been on the rise.  His first fight was disappointing loss, but after he got the jitters out in that fight he has strung together 3 straight wins each fight getting harder in competition, now with his biggest challenge ahead a win could catapult him to an opportunity at the champion.  Calvin Duran joined HMMA with a lot of hype behind him and was in a rare circumstance given the opportunity to jump right into title contention.  After a TKO loss to the champion he now has a chance to earn another go around with a win of Mr. Translucent.

Rudy:  Interesting fight between two well rounded fighters,  both of these guys can win the fight any where it goes, but on paper Translucent does have the advantage on the ground and Duran standing, we will see if this is the way it looks fight time though as we all know anything can happen.

Prediction:  I like Translucent to win this one.

7th Matt "$Dollar$" Leach (6-1) v 5th  "Hurricane" Rubin Carter (16-3)

Weston:  The last time we saw Rubin Carter he was getting his ten fight win streak brought to a hault in  a middleweight title fight against Jean Pierre Babin, after the fight Carter took some time to train himself and make another run at the champion, its been two and a half months since we last saw Carter but the time has come for him to reenter the cage and see where his training helped him.  The man standing across from him, the same one he picked up his tenth straight win over, Matt Leach.  After Leach won his last fight he pondered where to go next.   A three fight win streak left him thinking what happened the last time he had a three fight win streak.  While looking for his 4th straight Rubin Carter squeaked out a decision victory of Leach.  This left a bitter taste in his mouth and the thought of revenge would soon consume Leach until the point where Leach said…..I want to avenge my only loss to Rubin Carter…..

Rudy:  Last time these two met I think a lot of people were surprised by the game plan of Rubin Carter.  That fight showed his versatility as he didn’t do what most expected of him by boxing his way to another victory, instead he came out and wrestled Leach to the ground in the first two rounds stayed busy and earned a decision victory.  What came as another surprise is in the third round the fight was kept standing and Leach was able to out box Carter earning him the third round, will this momentum carry over into this fight or will we see more of the same from Carter’s underrated wrestling game?

Prediction:  Leach by TKO.

Prelims

Weston:  The Prelims of HMMA 81 are some really good fights I will ignore that douchebag in the lightweight division, and talk about the other lightweight fight between 9th ranked Daniel Krigare and Joe Davis, this is a long awaited fight between two men who we once thought would be fighting each other in fights two see who would face the champion.  Now one of these two will make a push back into the elite while the other drops off for a bit.  Another great fight is the middleweight fight between the Hall of Famer Boing Sparbot and George Oven, what a win this would be for both guys as the try to get their careers back on track.

Rudy:  Weston I suggest you refrain from saying anything about Kimura as I know he may have to call you out after the fight and you will be proven a fraud when you back out of a fight with “The Gracie Killer”  Nakara has the skills to beat Kimura but Kimura has the swag to overthrow the entire world I expect him to win everytime he enters the cage.  The first fight of the night is a welterweight fight between two welterweights who have fallen on hard times after promising runs Will Glenn Stroud or Klaus Andersen get back on track?

Tebato Nakara (7-5-1) v 4th "The Gracie Killer" Masahiko Kimura (10-2)

9th Daniel "The warrior" Krigare (18-9) v  Joe Davis (22-14-1)

George "The Easy Bake" Oven (13-7-2) v  Boing “777” Sparbot (14-9-1)

Klaus Andersen (12-6) v  Glenn "Destroyer" Stroud (10-7)
