UNDER CARD

Bantamweight Fight
#12 Marrok Crotale (2-1, 1-1 NGF) v #24 Third Dag (6-3, 3-3 NGF)

Well the trend continues for Third Dag, he has l, w, l, w, l, and now a win to continue the pattern.  I thought this was going to be a good fight, but was I wrong.  I thought it would be a back and forth ground battle, but it was Marrok Crotale getting the fight to the mat, he was on top, but it was Dag who did all the work.  Crotale was only able to attempt 4 ground strikes, and Dag looked to lock up submissions from the bottom.  Eventually he did and ended this one at 3:58 of the 1st by guillotine.

Featherweight Fight
#15 Stefan Burczymucha (3-2, 2-2 NGF) v #2 Diego Brandao (3-1 NGF)

This fight was a good battle.  Diego Brandao is starting to prove that he’s the real deal here.  I was way off on how this fight would go, I thought Brandao would try to get this to the mat, but he has obviously been working on his stand up game, because he stayed on his feet and traded strikes with Stefan Burczymucha.  The fight was rather one sided, Burczymucha didn’t game plan as well for Brandao staying on his feet, Diego landed 33 of 44 punches to Burczymucha’s 0 of 2.  Stefan showed excellent take down defense stopping all 4 take down attempts from Brandao.  Diego Brandao dominated the standup game in this one and he was able to get a TKO victory 1:50 into the 2nd round.  After the fight, Stefan Burczymucha’s left eye was completely swollen shut.

Featherweight Fight
#8 Mark Reynolds (4-0 NGF) v #7 Andreas Almdudler (6-4 NGF)

We’ll we have our next title contender in Mark Reynolds.  This guy has shown big heart and has moved into the title fight with a win over Andreas Almdudler.  Reynolds is now 4-0 with what I consider and upset win over Almdudler.  He certainly will be up for Come Back Win award.  Almdudler got 4 take downs in the 1st and dominated the round.  The 2nd had a slower pace, but Reynolds did get some good shots in, but once again, it was Almdudler pushing the pace and getting the fight to the ground once again.  The third started with Almdudler getting a takedown stuffed, he stood up and he looked very tired.  He was able to get a takedown moments later, but the ref stood them up because Almdudler looked to be trying to get his breath back.  After the stand up, Almdudler, who still looked very tired, took the fight into the clinch, there Reynolds was able to start landing shots that hurt Andreas.  Reynolds totally dominated in the clinch, 7-7 on head punches, 4-5 on body punches and stopped all 5 take down attempts by Almdudler.  Reynolds then broke the clinch and landed big right hand that wobbled Almdudler.  Reynolds then landed a nice jab right on the button that rocked Almdudler and he was in big trouble as he tried to clinch up with Reynolds.  Moments later Reynolds landed a series of jabs that sent Almdudler to the mat, as Reynolds dove on top with more strikes, the ref jumped in to stop this one at 3:31 of the 3rd.  What a fight and what a win for Reynolds!

Bantamweight Fight
#15 Matti Teitsi (4-3, 1-0 NGF) v #3 Boris Yurinov (7-4, 5-4 NGF)

Wow, this was a great fight, these two fighters looked awesome and they had the crowd giving them a standing ovation after it was over.  I for one wish this would have been a 5 round fight.  The fight saw the fighters battle in all areas, standing, clinch and on the ground.  It started off a little slow; Teitsi tried a couple of take downs and looked to just clinch up in the first minute of the fight, while Boris Yurinov landed some counter shots.  Teitsi did get a take down, but Yurinov was able to kick Teitsi off and get up without taking much damage.  Yurinov was the much more aggressive fighter in the 1st and he took round 1.  In the 2nd, Yurinov swung and missed badly and Teitsi closed in to take the fight to the clinch, this time Teitsi dominated the clinch, he landed several really hard shots, uppercuts and hooks that really snapped Yurinovs head.  Boris was able to get a few shots in, but when he did finally break free, he had some obvious swelling on his face.  Teitsi finished the round by getting a take down and finishing on top.  The 3rd round had a lot of great action, both guys left it all out there, Matti Teitsi did push the pace a little more, he took the fight into the clinch again where he once again out struck Yurinov.  Yurinov picked up the striking in the 3rd, he landed several big shots, he also really worked over the legs and body of Teitsi with heavy kicks.  The fight went to the judges and Teitsi took it 29-28 by all three judges.  Teitsi ended 15-25 head punches in the clinch, 12-28 body punches while Yurinov had 12-19 leg kicks and 6-8 body kicks.  This was a great fight and well deserving of the FOTN.

Middleweight Fight
#15 Jeff Glover (2-0 NGF) v #11 Facaloto Gals (12-7, 4-4 NGF)

I didn’t do such a great job of predicting this card and my terrible prognosticating was at its peak with this one.  I thought Facaloto Gals could get this fight to the mat and win this fight, wow, was I way off.  Gals landed 1 big strike in the fight, a knee to the groin of Glover that put tears in his eyes, hell, it put tears in every man’s eyes.  After the 5 minute recovery period, Glover looked like a crazy man, he was very upset at the low blow.  Glover landed a big right hook that sent Gals back words, stumbling and dazed.  Glover moved in, landed a few more strikes to the fallen Gals, and then I something that I can’t remember seeing, Gals tapped out.  Yep, he tapped out because he was getting beat up.  The ref did not stop this, but Gals tapped under the striking of Glover.  Now Glover was on top and was going to land shots, but he landed just 2 strikes, both to me looked to land on the hands of Gals as he was covering up his head, and when Glover reached back to load up another shot, Gals tapped.  Wow.   Facaloto Gals has not lost 3 straight and he is in a terrible downward spiral, I just don’t know what he does from this point on.

MAIN CARD

Light Heavyweight Fight
#7 Kert Nigobson (8-6, 5-3 NGF) v #6 Rogerio Mustacho (8-3, 7-3 NGF)

I thought this fight was going to be a very good one and boy did these two not disappoint.  What a good fight from start to finish, a little bit of everything.  These two came out sharp, throwing and blocking strikes, they looked fast and you could tell this was going to be a great fight.  Nigobson got the early take down and he was able to ground out some points.  Rogerio Mustacho did manage a beautiful butterfly sweep to get on top at one point, but Nigobson used great ground defense to stall and get a stand up.  Nigobson ended the round by getting another take down where he was able to score a few more points.  In the 2nd we saw something that hasn’t happen yet, Mustacho was able to take Nigobson down, this would be the 1st time Nigobson has been taken down in his career.  Mustacho was able to score a bit, but Nigobson showed excellent skill on the ground and avoided a lot of damage until the ref stood them up.  Nigobson was able to take the fight back to the mat later in the round, he then did land some ground and pound a few pretty significant strikes.  In the 3rd Mustacho picked up the pace, he knew he was down in this fight and he came out looking to let it all hang out.  The fight went back to the clinch for a few seconds, but after Nigobson got drilled a couple of times by Mustacho, he quickly broke it.  Nigobson wanted to get back where he has been dominating, the ground, and he did at the 2:30 minute mark.  He got the take down and just dominated the last 2:30 of this fight.  He landed massive ground strikes, blooding up Mustacho and finished the fight landing 14 of 27 ground strikes.  The judges gave Nigobson the decision 30-27.

Lightweight Fight
#3 Koji Murosaki (8-2, 6-2 NGF) v #2 Makoto Shibasaki (9-5, 7-4 NGF)

The number 1 contender fight for the lightweight title turned into a big pile of poop.  The fight was ok, but it was not the battle I envisioned.  Makoto Shibasaki shot in for a takedown just seconds into this one and got it.  He was able to quickly get to mount where he landed some decent shot, including a few elbows.  Koji Murosaki did a pretty nice job defending and for about a minute the fight turned into Murosaki trying to get up and Makoto Shibasaki just trying to maintain control.  The mistake happened close to the 3 minute mark when Shibasaki tried an armbar but lost control and Murosaki was able to reversed and got into a more dominate position and in seconds he was able to move into mount.  After a submission attempt by Murosaki, he lost mount and Shibasaki quickly reversed and got on top of Murosaki.  Shibasaki stalled and let his head lay on Murosaki’s chest, Murosaki quickly went for a guillotine and locked it up tight and at 4:56 of the 1st Shibasaki was tapping from this SOTN finish.  Here’s where it went from bad to worse.  After the fight, Murosaki came out and said he would not fight current champion Tolek Banan because they were friends and he then wanted to move out of the lightweight division.  It seemed like Murosaki has worked his butt off to get the opportunity to fight for the title only to decline and move to a different division.  He’ll move to featherweight now where he’s sure to be a major force.

Middleweight Fight
#6 Heath Marcum (7-2, 4-1 NGF) v #5 Artur Ross (10-2, 9-2 NGF)

This one looked a lot like the Artur Ross’s last fight at NGF 46 where he lost his belt to Milan Savic.  Heath Marcum is a better ground fighter and Ross did not want to go to the mat, he wanted to use his dominating stand up skills to beat up Marcum, but just seconds into the fight, Marcum swatted away a clinch attempt from Ross and dropped down to take Ross to the mat.  Once the fight went to the mat, the next 4:50 seconds was all Marcum, destroying Ross from the top, nailing him with just about everything, elbows, hammer fists, punches, I felt terrible for Ross.  Artur started off doing a nice job of moving and avoiding the pounding, but Marcum just was relentless, he landed 13 of 39 ground strikes and around the 4 minute mark Marcum drilled Ross that had his eyes rolling around, it looked over, but Ross showed that champion heart and defended, hung on and survived the round.  He stumbled back to this corner, still in real trouble.  As the 2nd started, Ross took his pep talk from his corner to heart, he looked like he recovered from the 1st round beating and he came out very determined.  He stopped a early take down and that just fueled him.  The fight turned into Marcum trying to get Ross back to the mat and Ross trying to get under hooks to avoid going down, Ross showed great strength to fight off the numerous take down attempts.  It just turned into Marcum trying take downs and Ross defending them, at this point Marcum was exhausted and this was the turning point of the fight.  About the 2:30 mark of the round, Ross saw his opening and grabbed onto Marcum.  In the clinch he landed a big knee that hurt Marcum.  Then after two failed attempts by Marcum to pull guard, Ross landed a heavy punch to the ribs and then two huge knees that cut Marcum open.  Then for the next minute Ross was able to land some punches and 2 more big knees, Marcum was all defense at this point, hurt and in big time trouble as Ross started to pour it on.  Marcum was leaned up against the cage as Ross started the final assault.  Ross landed a short right hand right on the temple of Marcum, he went slightly limp as he was rocked, he staggered off the cage, but Ross pushed him back up.  Ross then struck with another right hand and then he landed a monster uppercut right under the chin of Marcum dropping him straight down to the mat, limp, and as Ross started more punches, the ref jumped in stopping it at 4:32 of the 2nd round.  A fantastic win by Autur Ross!

Co-Main Event:

Middleweight Title Fight
#3 Jima Jamm (13-3-1, 4-0 NGF) v #1 Milan Savic (7-3 NGF)

This fight was so good, I was so pumped for this and man, I was out of breath, from the pace.  Jima Jamm took on Milan Savic, a champion that was considered by most as a underdog in this fight.  The bell rang and it was Savic taking the center, he pushed the pace with aggressive striking.  Jamm did some nice counter kicking, but he was back on his heals to start the fight.  The next minute or so it was back and forth, more Savic pushing the pace, he landed some nice shots, and so did Jamm, but more was coming up empty, but both fighters were doing very well.  It was around the 3 minute mark where Savic tried a take down that Jamm easily avoided, and it looked like it took a bit of energy from Savic.  Seconds later, Jamm landed a quick jab right on the right eye of Savic and that opened up a nasty looking cut.  Then Savic was able to drag Jamm down but landed in a bad position and Jamm, from the bottom, started locking up submissions or at least he was trying to lock them up.  The round ended with Savic on top, but Jamm doing way more and he probably took round 1.  In round 2, it was Savic taking the fight into the clinch, but he was breaking free a few seconds later after Jamm was able to land some pretty heavy shots.  At this point you could see Savic was just tired, he looked concerned and it was him now moving back and Jamm was the more aggressive fighter.  After a few swings and misses from Savic, Jamm bobbed and weaved and landed a beautiful counter jab that landed right on the jaw and knocked Savic down.  Jamm didn’t follow and Savic quickly got back to this feet, still on shaky legs and still in very big trouble.  He tried to throw out some jabs to keep Jamm away, but Jamm dropped down to avoid then came up with a uppercut, landing right under the chin and knocked Savic up off his feet and back to the mat unconscious and this fight was over 56 seconds into the 2nd with a brutal, KOTN punch.  And YOU’RE NEW MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION JIMA JAMM!

Main Event

Heavyweight Fight
#10 Firco Nowack (15-7, 2-2 NGF) v #5 Vadim Kalashnikov (14-5, 3-1 NGF)

After such a great and exciting fight in the co-main event, how could anything live up to that?  Well, this one didn’t.  This was a fight where you knew the only way, as slight as it was, the only way Firco Nowack could win this one was in the clinch.  He’s got great Muay Thai skills so you knew he had to try and win there, the only problem is Vadim Kalashnikov is younger, stronger and is damn good in the clinch as well.  The fight went right into the clinch, right off the bell and then, from 5 seconds until this fight ended at 2:24 of the 1st round, it was just Kalashnikov dominating Nowack like no other, completely beating down Firco.  He landed 18 of 18 head punches, 12 of 12 body punches, and 7 of 8 knees.  Nowack got caught and in a bad spot and he could not break free, he could not get his arms out to defend himself and he was destroyed, bloody, swollen and hurt.  I don’t know what to say about this one, has to be in the running for Beat Down of the Season award.
