UNDER CARD

Welterweight Fight

Ziggy Stardust (2-3, 0-2 NGF) v Archie Stewart (4-2, 2-2 NGF)

What a fight to open this card!  Ziggy Stardust and Archie Stewart came out ready to fire this crowd up, putting their health on the line to do it and they were rewarded with the FOTN for doing so.  The fight started with some good stand up action, and then Stewart was able to get a take down.  There was a lot of back and forth action on the mat, both fighters looking for submissions and working hard to better their position.  The 2nd round was almost the exact same, although there was a little more time spent on the mat.  After 2 rounds it was way to hard to call, so close, it was who won the 3rd round would win this fight in my opinion.  The 3rd started like the 1st, good stand up, more striking from Stardust, but both fighters were active.  The fight went to the mat again as Stewart once again was able to get Stardust down.  Stewart did a lot of scoring in the 3rd and as the round ended, Stewart was on top, but he did have to fight off some desperation submission attempts from Stardust.  The judges then scored this fight 27-30 Stardust, 30-27, Stewart and 30-27 Stewart.  A fantastic battle, good stand up and great ground work.

Lightweight Fight

Reggie Smack (6-7, 5-7 NGF) v #9 Kyun-Chul Kim (3-1 NGF)

This fight was another solid effort by both guys, it was a little one sided as Kyun-Chul Kim looked dominating in this win.  Kim took this fight early in the 1st and he was able to mount Smack, he rained down bombs that at one point looked to knock Smack out, but Reggie quickly regained his senses and worked out of the mount and did get back to his feet somehow.  The only chance Smack had was in the 2nd, he got a take down and he went after submissions, he worked hard, but he is still miles away from having good submission skills and he wasn’t able to lock up any of his 6 attempted submissions.  Kim continued to dominated this fight every minute other than the little bit of time he was defending submissions.  He ended landing 16 of 22 head punches and 28 of 40 ground strikes while defending all 6 submission attempts.  Dominating win of a middling talented fighter.

Light Heavyweight Fight

Sizzling Seven (3-3, 1-3NGF) v #15 Donald Duck (7-2, 2-1 NGF)

Sizzling Seven is just a terrible fighter, sorry, no sugar coating this one, he’s not good and he doesn’t need to be in the NGF.  Donald Duck got a gimmy in this one, he’s great, don’t get me wrong, he looked good, he looked ready, but the guy across from him either doesn’t take this seriously or he doesn’t train.  Seven started with some high school take down attempt that Duck easily defended, almost side stepping and letting Seven fall flat on his face.  Then Seven attempted some strikes, if that’s what you want to call them, then Duck hit him with one punch, a hook that landed, almost a glancing shot, but Seven went right down, like he was shot, Duck jumped on top and this fight was over, 46 seconds in.  Duck will take it and move on, I can only hope that Seven just moves on too.

Lightweight Fight

#15 Heinz Augustus (5-4, 0-1 NGF) v #1 Neeyo Collin (8-3-1, 5-2-2 NGF)

Two excellent wrestlers and two brown belts in bjj so you knew this would be a ground battle and boy was it.  Heinz Augustus went right for the take down and he got it.  Quickly though, Neeyo Collin was able to get into guard and out of problems.  Collin also almost locked up triangle, but Augustus did a nice job of defending, but in the process he was a little off balance and soon after, Collin got a nice sweep to get on top.  The rest of the round, Collin was dropping shots and controlling the fight, complete wearing out Augustus.  In the 2nd, Augustus one again bull rushed Collin, bounced him off the cage and down to the mat, but Heinz was so reckless with this take down that he was complete out of position when they came down, and he end up in a worse spot than Collin.  Neeyo recognized the situation and he started going after submissions as Augustus desperately tried to get up.  In the process, Collin managed to get on top in mount and he did some damage with his ground and pound.  Augustus later was also able to sweep, but it came more in the way of Collin knowing he could possibly end this fight from the bottom, so he put up no defense and let Augustus sweep.  As Augustus got the sweep, Collin threw up his legs looking for a triangle and as Heinz went to defend, Collin saw another submission opportunity and he reached around and locked up the SOTN guillotine, he squeezed and Augustus was tapping at 2:33 of the 2nd round.  Neeyo Collin is closing in on that title shot if you ask me.

Middleweight Fight

Tommy MacKenzie (6-6, 1-4 NGF) v #6 Mikhail Rakhmanov (7-2, 4-2 NGF)

Tommy MacKenzie continues to look baffled by the NGF middleweight competition as he loses for the 4th time.  Mikhail Rakhmanov dominated the 1st round, rocking MacKenzie just after the 2 minute mark and then escaping a late take down by MacKenzie to finish the round on top.  The 2nd round was a lot closer, MacKenzie was able to get the fight to the mat where he was able to control and work on submissions, but he wasn’t able to finish the fight.  In the 3rd, Rakhmanov was working some nice stand up striking, but again, MacKenzie was able to get a take down, this time Rakhmanov got a quick sweep and he got on top.  Rakhmanov was able to land a big elbow that hurt Mackenzie.  The fight ended with MacKenzie landing 13 of 32 head punches, but he got just 3 of 16 take down attempts while Rakhmanov landed 13 of 19 head punches and he improved his ground position 7 of 12 times and landed 5 of 6 ground strikes.  Rakhmanov took this fight 29-28, 30-27, 29-28.

MAIN CARD

Welterweight Fight

#14 Macros Motaro (4-1-1, 2-1 NGF) v #4 Alastair Gridlock (5-3, 2-0 NGF)

A fantastic top 15 match up and one I was so looking forward to.  Macros Motaro is a monster puncher, but he surprised Alastair Gridlock 10 seconds in with a kick to the head that knocked Gridlock down, totally rocking him and also opened up a nasty gash, but surprising Motaro didn’t go for the kill, he sat back and let Gridlock get back up.  Gridlock, groggy, started to throw some defensive strikes to keep Motaro away.  Gridlock did a nice job of landing a few stinging shots, but Motaro landed another big shot, a right hand that buckled Gridlocks knees and he stumbled away and into the cage.  As Motaro closed, Gridlock lunged and grabbed on.  The fight now turned into a clinch battle and Motaro dominated the next 3 minutes.  He was able to land shoulder strikes, punches all scoring major points.  Gridlock could do nothing, basically he was all defensive and when he was able to get of a strike, it didn’t land or it was just blocked.  As the round ended, Gridlock was a bloody mess, but Motaro was breathing very heavy.  As the 2nd started, Alastair Gridlock showed some emotion, he looked angry.  Motaro fired off some strikes, but this time, nothing landed as Gridlock avoided well.  Gridlock then connected a big uppercut that wobbled Motaro momentarily and at that moment you could feel the momentum shift.  After that, the fight was back in the clinch, but this time Gridlock was able to do more damage.  Motaro was able to land13 of 27 head punches and 8 of 18 body punches in the clinch while Gridlock landed 11 of 27 head punches and 2 of 16 body punches.  The strike of the fight was a perfect shoulder strike from Gridlock; landing right on the nose and it buckled Motaro’s knees.  As soon as Gridlock felt this, he pushed himself away, and landed a big uppercut  that put Motaro to his knees and Gridlock unloaded 3 more monster shots before the ref could jump in at 4:40 of the 2nd.

Welterweight Fight

#8 James James (3-1, 1-1 NGF) v #3 Dominick Napolitano (6-3, 6-2 NGF)

James James looked like he might pull the upset in the 1st round as he was able to throw Dominick Napolitano to the mat from the clinch.  He was able to land in side control and he began using is bjj skills to try and end this fight with a submission, but once again, his awful submission skills shown again, he has yet to lock up a submission, even though he’s averaging 3.3 per fight.  Dominick Napolitano fought off the submissions, although none of them were real dangerous, but he did lose the 1st round.  In the 2nd, James struggled to find his range and Napolitano turned this fight around as he began to pick apart James with quick jabs and leg kicks.  Napolitano did take the fight into a clinch, no sure why, but James was able to quickly get a take down.  James did do a little damage with some ground and pound, but he once again was unsuccessful with a submission, he ended the fight going 0-6 on submissions.  The 3rd round was the most exciting round, both fighters decided to make this a stand up fight.  Both guys were aggressive, but Napolitano pushed the pace a little more and he certainly was the better striker.  James struggled to land strikes in the round and in the fight finishing just 4 for 22 in head punches and 1 for 5 in combinations.  Napolitano landed a monster leg kick at one point that knocked James right off his feet, when James got back up you could see he was clearly hurt, he wasn’t moving as well and Napolitano was able to land more and more throughout the round.  As the bell rang Napolitano ended with 5 of 7 head punches landed, 17 of 29 leg kicks and he landed 4 of 8 ground strikes and he took the fight 29-28 by all three judges.

Super Heavyweight Fight

#6 Chilemba Murithi (9-5, 1-1 NGF) v #3 Castiel Angel (15-5, 3-0 NGF)

You knew this fight was going to be a fantastic ground battle, well it was, but it also had some very good stand up.  Castiel Angel was making his first fight since losing his title at NGF 47 and he looked like his old self in this one.  These two had some words for each other the day before at the weigh in and actually had a shoving match.  They started this one looking to take each other’s heads off as Chilemba Murithi just avoided a head kick from Angel and then just missed with a head kick of his own.  When Murithi missed, Angel dove in and got a nice trip take down.  From then until the end of the round, right around 4:30 minutes, it was just Castiel Angel controlling Murithi, landing a strike here and there and Murithi trying to get off his back.  It wasn’t a fun round, but one that Angel clearly controlled and won.  In the 2nd, the two fighters must have heard the boo’s in the crowd because they both came out throwing strikes.  Angel landed the 1st significant one as he landed a nice uppercut, but Murithi landed the 2nd significant strike, a head kick that had Angel smiling, but also bleeding.  Murithi followed it up with a heavy leg kick that had to do some damage, but Angel after missing on 1, landed a take down into half guard.  Angel once again, slowly, methodically controlled the action, landing a strike here and there, but he seemed to be just fine keeping Murithi on his back.  The 3rd started with Angel landing a hard left hand that snapped Murithi’s head back and cut him around the eye.  Now once again, Angel looked to get Murithi down, which he did, but it was almost like Angel was doing this to show Murithi he could take him down whenever he wanted, because he did nothing once on the mat and twice the ref had to stand them up.  And that’s pretty much how this one ended.  Once again Chilemba Murithi showed no punches, he was a one trick pony again, only kicks and his take down defense was terrible.  Angel dominated this fight and he has shown the rest of the division the book on how to beat Murithi.

Welterweight Fight

#6 Zeddicus Starburst (12-5, 1-1 NGF) v #1 Aurelius Schultes (13-3, 1-2 NGF)

What a match up, two fantastic stand up fighters, Zeddicus Starburst looking to get back to his championship form and Aurelius Schultes looking to get a title shot.  Two great stand up fighters, but it was Schultes taking down an off balanced Starburst just seconds into this one, but the lack of ground skills from these two showed and the ref stood them up soon after.  In the next few minutes, both fighters tried to find their range, mostly their kicking range as the majority of the strikes were kicks.  Once again, Starburst put himself off balance with a weird punch, and Schultes took the fight to the mat, this time, Schultes punished Starburst with elbows and ground strikes as the round ended.  As the 2nd started, Schultes looked very good, he landed strikes and avoided strikes, but Starburst landed a big body shot that had Schultes gasping for a few seconds.  It looked like Starburst had hurt Schultes and he moved in aggressively, trying to take control of this fight, but he once again loaded up, missed and was in a ugly position and Schultes got another take down.  As the two went to the mat, Starburst landed on his side and had his left arm trapped under him, Schultes noticed and quickly rained down monster punches, landing on the temple and in the face of Starburst and you could see Starburst go limp and the ref finally dove in to end this one at 1:50 of the 2nd round, a huge win for Schultes and he called for the title shot in the after fight interview.

Super Heavyweight Title Fight

#5 Sergei Svetlakov (8-3, 4-2 NGF) v #1 Vyacheslav Romanov (10-0, 3-0 NGF)

This fight was super hyped up, Sergei Svetlakov waited a long time for his opportunity and man, did he come out and fall flat on his face.  Vyacheslav Romanov came in undefeated and he once again showed he has heavy hands and can be deadly even doing very little.  As the two fighters came out, Svetlakov took control of the center of the octagon, but Romanov defended and countered nicely, one counter punch landed hard, snapping Svetlakov’s head back and cutting him.  As Svetlakov was dazed from the punch, Romanov rushed in and took the fight to the clinch.  Romanov was able to free his right hand and landed a hard uppercut that snapped Svetlakov’s head back and clearly hurt him.  As Romanov was pulling Svetlakov’s head down, you could see a stream of blood was coming from Sergei’s cut and pouring onto the mat.  Svetlakov was still hurt and dazed as Romanov controlled the fight, landing more uppercuts and hooks.  Svetlakov could not break free, he tried to pull guard, but Romanov kept him standing and then he landed the knock out shot, a huge uppercut that landed right on the button and Svetlakov fell to the mat in a heap, Romanov followed with 2 more strikes on the unconscious fighter and this fight was stopped at 1:09 of the 1st, and STILL YOUR SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION, VYACHESLAV ROMANOV!
