TTFC"s Charles Smith Interview

Fighter profile of Charles Smith by Mike Thomas

YSN: I'm here from Your Sports Network to interview Charles ''Lightning'' Smith and talk to him about his upcoming fight with Vitali Jurcina. Charles, how are you?
Smith: Good, how about yourself?

YSN: Good. So your fight with Vitali is coming up in 7 days, what do you think about your opponent?
Smith: Remember Ivan Drago from Rocky? That's what I think about Vitali Jurcina. Guy likes to stand and bang like me, which makes for good fights. It's going to be like a fireworks show in there.

YSN: Many people have questioned your logic for taking this fight, saying that he's that much better than you, your thoughts?
Smith: Look, I wouldn't take a fight if I didn't believe I had a chance whatsoever. I've got some tricks up my sleeve that people haven’t seen.

YSN: You said it's going to be like a fireworks show in there, does that mean you think the two of you plan to fight on your feet?
Smith: I'd love to, but don't plan on it. Listen, I don't mean to brag but let's face it, I’ve got some of heaviest, quickest hands TTFC has seen. I don't think Vitali will stay standing with me the entire fight, I think he's going to try and take me down to be honest. Four others tried, and four failed.

YSN: Earlier this month you mentioned that you're planning to finish your career with kickboxing, any idea when and where?
Smith: Well, we've spoken about switching roads as early as the end of this contract. As to where? K-1 Dynasty in Tokyo is toward the top of the list.

YSN: Why move to kickboxing? You seem to have doing well in mma, is their any reason?
Smith: It's quite obvious god made this magnificent machine called Charles Smith to stand and throw down. Boxing is in my roots, and my camp and I feel that I would be a force in the kickboxing world.

YSN: Would you agree that this is the biggest fight of your career so far?
Smith: Fuck yeah. What kind of question is that? This is my college final. I respect Vitali, otherwise I would have bashed his name during this entire interview. Is this the biggest fight of my career so far? Come on man. That whole place is going to go nuts if I win, and a lot of people betting are probably gonna be pissed.

YSN: And if you lose?
Smith: I get a hot nurse and pain meds. What's to lose?

YSN: Thank you for your time, and best of luck in your fight. Any last words for fans?
Smith: Yeah, go get your Cubans and your champagne, because if I win we're having a block party..seriously.
