OverComing 3: Danny Brown vs. Jordan Statham! PREVIEW

Event Preview: O3: Maia vs Aquino
Overcoming (ID 155k+)
2012-01-29, Amsterdam, Micro Arena - Amsterdam
Author:K Rad

G'day G'day my sexy little kittens. K-Rad is back again but unfortunately needs to be uncharacteristically brief as it is an Australia Day long weekend for me and despite getting in a solid 11am-11pm drinking session yesterday, I need to do it all again today in the name of the Great Brown Land we know locally as 'Straya mate'. Despite the relative lack of K-Rad you certainly won't be lacking any top quality MMA as Amsterdam's Micro Arena is hosting 10 big fights including the first ever title fights for 2 different weight divisions. Suffice to say, it's going to be a sell out so make sure you grab your ticket now or die trying. Tickets are not fifty cent.

Danny Brown vs. Jordan Statham
Middleweight

We get the action started with middleweights Brown and Statham, both unknown up-and-comers with only Statham having a professional fight (and a win!) to his name. Brown fancies himself a boxer whereas Statham is a grappler with an 11cm height advantage. Despite having far less than optimal energy levels it shouldn't be too difficult for Statham to use his superb wrestling to take down brown and then it will just be a matter of whether or not he can apply his purple belt against Brown's blue and either gain the dominant position and pound, pound, pound or wrap up the submission. Brown will be hoping he can come out firing and score and early KO but if he can't it is only a matter of time before he ends up on the mat and is in trouble and this is why I am tipping Statham to claim another GNP KO victory.

Alessandro "Defender" Nestea vs. Yuri "Undisputed" Boyka
Super Heavyweight

"Defender" Nestea takes on "Undisputed" Boyka in the open weight division and I can tell you now, no one is disputing the fact that Boyka is Boyka. It is undisputed. What else is undisputed is his jitsu skills and I would be expecting him to put them to work tonight as "Defender" is the type of character who wants to take you down and beat you to a pulp whilst sitting on you. A bit like a kinky Ukrainian girlfriend. This should work in Boyka's favour as he has what it takes to stand and kickbox or if/when he is taken down he can capitalise on any over enthusiastic striking from Nesta and latch onto a limb for the submission. With that said, Boyka will need to be careful as despite having the potential to take out a kicking KO with his 21cm height advantage, the blue belted "Defender" may have some surprises of his own if he can get a hold of one of Boyka's lanky limbs. A difficult fight to call but I feel that Boyka is better rounded and I am going to tip him to win a submission victory.

Colt Peacemaker vs. Sebastien Chabal
Super Heavyweight

More open weight action with Peacemaker and Chabal getting ready to rumble stand up style. Both men can box with the best and I am expecting sparks to fly when they clash in the cage. Both boys have the same wrestling ability which may make it difficult for Peacemaker to turn to his backup option of using his blue belt against Chabal's white on the canvas if the standing heat gets too much. I don't expect the fight to get to that point though as I'd assume both men to be loading their fists with TNT and going for the big ka-blammo early in the fight. Despite being a newcomer to the sport, Chabal has already put 7 professional fights behind him and with a record of 2-5-0 this is making me think I should tip Peacemaker to take out the KO win.

Fabricio "Plaksa" Werdum vs. Firco Nowack
Super Heavyweight. Co-Main Event TITLE FIGHT!

Title time! The open weight division is looking to crown its first ever king and it is "Plaska" Werdum and Nowack who have been chosen to duke it out for the prestigious title. Both men have a few fights behind them and Nowack is still undefeated after 4 thanks to some impressive kickboxing. Werdum on the other hand is a jitsu specialist and at 2-1-0 he has both of his victories via submission. Nowack is the slightly superior wrestler which will make it interesting to see whether or not Werdum is able to take him down to apply his BJJ skills as he certainly is not capable of standing and banging with the far superior striker. I am not convinced "Plaska" will be able to avoid damage long enough to put his grappling to use so I am tipping Nowack to claim the title and the KO victory.

Junior "Bad Boy" Maia vs. Jorge Aquino
Middleweight. Main Event TITLE FIGHT!

The open weight middleweight title is up for grabs next with 2 undefeated up-and-comers, "Bad Boy" Maia taking on Aquino in a fight I don't expect to be particularly evenly matched. Maia, as you'd expect, is a BJJ practitioner with all 3 wins coming via submission however his opponent has the superior wrestling to keep the fight standing and much, much better standup which is how he has claimed both of his wins via KO. Just like in the last fight I am not convinced Maia will be able to put his plan into action early enough and I am expecting Aquino to use his superb boxing to knock off his block and claim the blingbling.

That's the preview for OverComing 3: Maia vs. Aquino, I am K-Rad and I am off to buy a carton of beer! Take it easy boys and girls and I'll see you (in double!) at the event!
