Interview with Dan Thompson

Fighter profile of Dan Thompson by

Throwdown Fights:  Throwdown Fights here with Super Heavyweight Champion Dan "The Tank" Thompson.  Thanks for joining us today.

Dan Thompson:  My pleasure.

TDF: So to start off, lets talk about some of your accomplishments.  You're the first Super Heavyweight Champ in TDF, The first champion to successfully defend his title, recipient of a Fight of the Night award, and currently undefeated at 2-0.  Not to mention you're currently ranked 7th pound for pound in the organization.  How does that all feel?

Thompson:  It's surreal.  I got lucky getting chosen for that first fight for the title.  I came out and proved the better fighter to get on top and now that I'm here, I don't plan on leaving any time soon.

TDF:  Speaking of your first fight, your opponent Johnny DeMarco called you out for a rematch.

Thompson:  That's right.  Claims I got lucky with the arm triangle.

TDF:  You accepted the fight, though under some odd circumstances.

Thompson:  I have no problem fighting the man again, if he wants to get beat, I'll dish the beating every time.  But he hasn't earned a title shot, and TDF doesn't just give title shots to whoever runs their mouths.  So I got together with Mr. Naccarato and DeMarco and we talked it out.  We decided to make it a non title fight, three rounds deal.

TDF:  Do you feel that this was the right decision? Taking on DeMarco again when there is a clear top contender waiting for a shot?

Thompson: Soukah will get his shot.  I don't take a lot of time between fights, so I imagine it will be this month that I step into the cage against him.  He's just going to have to wait in line.  He has an offer for Drunkenski anyways, so he has to get past that first.

TDF:  True, though he feels that he has earned the fight against you instead of your last opponent.  Soukah shouldn't be taken lightly either, having a 2-0 record as well and earned an "of the Night" award in both matches.

Thompson: For sure, I'm not underestimating him.  He'll get his time.  We'll headline an event, maybe take it over to Russia like I did for Drunkenski. The fans over there would love it.

TDF:  That certainly would be an interesting fight card, especially if Heavyweight Champion Ruslan Ismailiyev would be in a co-headline fight.

Thompson:  Make it happen and we'll sell out the arena.
