LEGACY 1 Event Preview

Event Preview: LEGACY 1
Undisputed Online Championship
2013-06-08, Montreal, The Expo
Author:Louie DePalma

Greetings everyone and welcome to the inaugural event put on by Montreal’s newest Organization LEGACY! Our first event under the LEGACY Banner LEGACY 1 will come to you live from Montreal’s Expo Arena where 6,000 rabid fight fans are expected to make their presence felt and heard. LEGACY is very excited to make their debut in the Montreal fight scene and hope to start things of with a big Splash at LEGACY 1 beginning the journey we all hope will lead us to greatness.

Preliminary Matchups

135 lbs Urijah Faber vs Kevin McArthur 170 lbs Eddy Maiden vs Juan Pablo Green 265 lbs Kenrick Nikil vs James McCullen Destro 205 lbs Mathurin Kerbouchard vs Roberto Klinkhammer 155 lbs Rory Diaz vs Sergei Simenkov

Main Card

185 lbs Cup Tea vs Ali Seyedi

Cup Tea comes into this matchup on a 2 fight winning streak showing he can win both on the ground and on the feet. Tea has a big advantage in BJJ with his Brown belt and will no doubt look to take this fight there, his reach advantage could be just enough to wear Seyedi down before going for the takedown and ultimately the ground finish. His main obstacle in the matchup will be the overwhelming advantage Seyedi has in the MT department with a vicious striking game that Tea will want to avoid at all costs. Having only 1 loss on his record in 12 trips to the cage, Seyedi is looking to continue in the win department. Will being 5 inches shorter deter him from going after head kicks that have been his bread and butter throughout his career. My money is on a KO victory for Seyedi in the second round.

265 lbs Jay Jay Mutombo vs Paul Wainwright

In our second matchup of the main card we have a heavyweight battle between two physically imposing men who on paper are very evenly matched up. Both men enjoy ending fights with spectacular KO's and I am sure they both plan on continuing that trend in their match tonight. Jay Jay is a Boxer who possesses a good MT game to compliment his dynamite hands and Wainwright has the slight advantage while on the matt even though I am very doubtful this battle will play itself out there. Jay Jay has a 4 " height advantage which could help him in the standup war however Wainwright likes to end fights quickly and on this night my money is on him to continue by way of first round (T)KO to retain his heavyweight title.

155 lbs Parker Griffin vs Billy Bob

Next up in the Lightweight division we see Parker Griffin take on Billy Bob. Griffin has the advantage in Boxing but we are unsure if his inferior MT will be his undoing. 9 of his career 11 victories have come by way of the KO and we are sure he will be looking to use his height advantage to his favor however Bob's 4 fight win streak and superior BJJ advantage on the ground will be a tough obstacle for Parker to surpass. No slouch himself in the KO department, but Bob is a much more versatile and well-rounded fighter which will give Griffin fits on this night. Look for Bob to grind out a 3 round UD victory on his way to his 5th consecutive win.

Co-Main Event - 205 lbs Hans Thor vs Jay Calico

Our Co-Main of the night is a battle in the Light Heavyweight division between World Class boxer Hans Thor and MT Specialist Jay Calico. Thor has won 5 of his past 6 fights all in spectacular KO fashion and always looks to wear down his opponents with leg kicks until they leave an opening at which time he goes in for the kill. Thor has only a slight reach advantage but I don’t believe it will be enough to make this one a one sided affair. Appearing in his debut fight, Jay Calico is a technician in the MT arts holding 7 KO victories himself and he will be looking to rebound from the loss in his last fight in which he was felled by a vicious KO punch early in the second round of his bout. At a quick glance this is an even match up that could go either way but when you dig deeper we believe Calico’s suspect chin will be his downfall with Thor picking up his 6th consecutive victory in the 2nd round.

Main Event - 145 lbs Brett Swayze vs Firnando Talha

Finally to our Main Event of the evening which is a Featherweight matchup which pits a classic battle between a standup fighter and a ground guy! Brett Swayze is on a roll winning 5 consecutive fights under the former ToP banner while Firnando Talha has won 3 of his past 4. Swayze appears to prefer to grind out his victories with 4 of the 5 wins going to the judges while Talha has not gone beyond the 1st round in his past 5 battles. This one could go either way in my books as Talha has shown he has the chin to be KO'd while Swayze has tasted defeat by way of submission 4 times but based on recent history my money is on Swayze grinding away at Talha until he gets his opening to go for the KO blow in the 3rd round.
