Welcome everyone, I'm Phil Conners and I'm here to bring you another episode of "The MMA Today Show" where we bring to you some of the best fighters in Los Angeles and explore what they are all about. Today we will be spending some time with Kari Parisyen, Kari is a young up and coming fighter in the UPF-LA who will be fighting for the bantamweight title belt on June 14th. Ladies and Gentlemen, give it up for Kari Parisyen. [Kari's song, "KPARISYEN" starts blaring on the studio sound system]
[Kari waves to the audience as he walks over to Phil, shakes his hand and takes his seat]
Phil: Welcome to the show Kari.
Kari: Thank you Phil, its great to be here...
Phil: So Kari, you've had quite a month, you've won "Fighter of the Month" for May, with two impressive victories. Now you will be starting off June with a shot at the championship. What has it been like all of the attention, have you prepared yourself for it?
Kari: First off, I would like to thank UPF-LA for giving me this shot, and also my mentor,KRAD. It’s truly difficult to describe the experience. This is where I expected to be, but it has come faster than I expected. My next opponent is very tough, and he's pretty well-rounded in the cage. I have been training in a lot of new areas, as well as spending enough time in the gym to really increase both my physical abilities, and mental knowledge of the different fighting styles, so I guess am ready to fight for the belt.
Phil: Why don't you tell us something about yourself outside of MMA, what do you do when you aren't fighting or preparing for a fight?
KARI: Well, Martial Arts is my passion and I love the Steven Seagal fighting style. I started training in Aikido and BJJ when I was a kid and have never stopped. It seemed like it would be fun, and now I’m making a career out of it.
Phil: It's always nice when what you do for fun fits so well with what you do for a living [chuckles]. So Kari, can you tell us a little about your background in MMA?
KARI: I began MMA with my Previous Manager Katon Swara around Dec 2012 and started training at Mike Henry's Gym in Tokyo. That is where I met Katon, by the way. I won three successive QFC fights and yet Katon wasn't really satisfied with my skills and said I had no future in MMA. I made the decision to get a new manager and hooked up with EdselT Mafias. EdselT introduced me to the UPF-LA org. I started fighting right away and had two fights at The Underground LA arena. Now I would like to invite you all to watch my title fight, it is the co main event on UPF-LA 4: Parisyen Vs Black at the Hard Knocks arena in LA on Jun 7th.
Phil: You have been very successful in your career to this point, I understand you were named fighter of the month for May, congratulations by the way. Would you like to make any predictions for your upcoming title fight?
Kari: thank you Phil, although James Black is a great stand up fighter, I think he knows he can't win. I am a highly trained ground fighter, with good cardio and am hand full for any fighter in the weight class.
Phil: So, you heard it here first folks, Kari Parisiyen has lain claim to the 135 title belt, and I guess this Friday we will know what James Black has to say about that. So that brings us to the end of this weeks show, we have about 30 seconds left Kari, and as per custom, it's all yours and anything goes.
Kari: I am a simple man of few words who choses to let my fighting do the talking for me. Well thats all and thank you for having me here....
Phil: And that's it for this weeks show, don't forget to join us here next week when we will have (one of our new champs) on the show telling us how it feels to win a championship belt. Until next time, this is Phil Conners saying "Don't forget, Don't submit"....So long.
