Empire 46 - 8th June 2013
Empire is back in LA once again this weekend to bring you the Empire 46 pay per view live from the Memorial Collusueum on Saturday June 8th 2013. Here's a breakdown of the forthcoming matchups.
Kane Williamsv Logan Harter
The Main Event sees Kane Williams, currently 1-0 in Empire, after a dominant victory over former champion The Dos Equis Guy, taking on another exciting newcomer to the Heavyweight division in the shape of Logan Harter. The hard hitting Williams will look to keep this one standing and use his deadly striking game to earn the victory while newcomer Harter would love to get the fight to the mat in order to work his imposing top game and ferocious ground and pound. The winner of this bout looks set to earn themselves a future title shot against current champion, Don Marciano.
John L Sullivan IVv Alexander Valentine
The Co-Main event sees two top Middlweight contenders go at it as John Sullivan IV brings his dangerous striking game to take on Empire debutant, Alexander Valentine. While no stranger to the striking game, Valentine is a well rounded mixed martial artist who will look to use his striking to set up takedowns and then use his ground and pound and grappling to work for a submission. While Sullivan has a solid defensive ground game he'll be looking to keep this fight as a kickboxing contest as he looks to add to his list of highlight reel knockouts and potentially earn himself a 'Knockout of the Night' bonus in the process.
Cormac Maguirev Danny Power
Cormac Maguire looks to defend his Empire Featherweight title against an old rival this weekend as he battles Danny Power. The well rounded Maguire who's not afraid to mix it up on the ground, standing or in the clinch is currently on a four-fight winning streak which includes his Empire Featherweight title win over Angus Young, as well as the defence of his UVT title. His last defeat however was back in Ascension in a super fight against none other than Danny Power. Power edged the last contest by using his accurate striking game and powerful takedowns to see his hand raised by the judges and will most likely be looking to adopt a similar strategy tonight as he goes in search of Empire gold.
Barry Scottv Steinar Sting
Two other Featherweight's in action are Barry Scott and Steinar Sting. These are two fighters who were once right at the top of their weight classes, ranked #1 and #2 respectively and will be looking to earn a win tonight to get themselves back in contention for another shot at the top. With both fighters possessing well rounded style you can expect to see them battle it out all over the cage in what looks like being a strong contender for 'Fight of the Night'.
Tim Taylorv Miguel Fernandez
Our final fight on the main card sees Light Heavyweights Miguel Fernandez and Tim Taylor square off, two hard hitting strikers with a wrestling background that neither fighter rarely seems to use. While Fernandez may have the slight edge in power you would have to say Taylor is the more durable and has the better chin so it'll be interesting to see how this one pan's out and which man can continue their rise up the LHW rankings as Tim Taylor makes his first appearance inside the Empire cage.
Curtly Ambrosev Nino Blaze
The Openweight Tournament finalist Curtly Ambrose returns to Empire to make his home in the Heavyweight division and will look to use his solid striking game against fellow striker Nino Blaze who will be looking to respond to a debut loss against Conquer This. In what looks to be a really exciting Heavyweight bout with little between them.
Richard Hickockv Topi Takala
Richard Hickock looks to rebound from two consecutive defeats in the Middleweight division when he takes on Empire debutant Topi Takala. Takala is a durable fighter who will look to mix up his gameplan using his well rounded style when he takes on the Hickock, a man renowned for his striking and clinchwork.
VinniJay Acuniav Sam Hall
The Welterweight division welcomes VinniJay Acunia to Empire, a man known for his technical striking, strong takedowns and dominant top game. He'll certainly have his work cut out for him though as he takes on the former champion, Sam Hall. Hall of Famer Sam Hall needs little introduction and will be looking to bounce back from consecutive defeats for only the second time in his illustrious 53 fight career by using his own well rounded striking game to mix up his attacks and work his opponent over in the clinch in another battle that could be a strong contender for the FOTN.
Europha Emanuelv Heston Gracie
In the lightweight division Europha Emanuel will look to use his elite striking and ground game to earn a victory over the debuting Heston Gracie. Heston is a BJJ red belt and with a sensational wrestling background usually has no trouble getting the fight to the mat in order to take advantage of it, working his opponents over with ground and pound in order to set them up for a submission. Emanuel will be looking to use his superior striking whenever he can and being a Black Belt in BJJ himself he'll be more then prepared for the almost certain ground battle ahead in what looks to be another exciting match-up.
Kron Graciev Rickson Silva
Last but not least a late notice Heavyweight fight between two more grappling specialists Kron Gracie and Rickson Silva who have 24 submissions between them at this point in their career and both will be looking to get the advantage on the ground in order to work for a submission and a potential 'Submission of the Night' bonus in what should shape up to be a real back and forth grappling battle.
