Feral Combat 18 Preview

Event Preview: Feral Combat 18
What used to be Feral Combat
2013-06-15, London, Hard Knocks - London
Author:Ernie White

Another great card coming your way as Feral Combat 18 is just around the corner in London. Headlined by a heavyweight superfight, you will not want to miss this one folks. I’m Ernie White, taking you into the action.

Our main card kicks off with a battle between two talented middleweights Will Dickinson (12-5 MMA, 6-5 FC) and Ultimate Damage (6-5 MMA, 3-0 FC). Dickinson loves to go for the submission, scoring tapouts in 8 of his 12 professional wins. Damage likes to think he can do it all, finishing 5 of his 6 wins, 2 by KO, 3 by submission. He wouldn’t be advised to try and submit Dickinson though, as that would be playing directly into his opponent’s game. Damage would be wise to keep this one on the feet, where the combatants’ skill differential is the closest and where Dickinson has shown vulnerability. Dickinson has the edge in just about every area, so expect him to put on a show for the fans.

Prediction: Dickinson via submission, round 2.

The co-main event is a lightweight title fight, as reigning champ Ejay Shazad (12-8 MMA, 2-2 FC) defends his title against Danny Castillo (7-2 MMA, 3-1 FC). Both fighters prefer to leave the mats with their opponents dazed and wondering what just happened, albeit the do it in different ways.  Shazad likes to use his crisp striking skills to put his opponents out, while Castillo will ground and pound you into oblivion. Neither fighter seems overly confident in themselves heading into this fight, so it should be interesting as to who breaks first and throws away the gameplan.

Prediction: Castillo by decision.

The main event is a heavyweight showdown between Edinaldo Oliviera (11-8-1 MMA, 1-2 FC) and Ivan Vanko (5-4 MMA, 5-4 FC). Minus the one draw, every single one of Oliviera’s fights has ended by (T)KO, whether he was on the giving or receiving end of it. Vanko, however, has a very limited striking game, and leans very heavily on his jiu-jitsu credentials to win fights. Oliviera is the more well-rounded of the two, and by mixing it up he could throw a wrench into Vanko’s predictable gameplan. But if he can dodge that wrench, he can possibly dodge a punch and get in close for a takedown. Oliviera is the much taller fighter, so expect him to use his exceptional boxing skills to keep the distance and set up big punches.

Prediction: Oliviera by (T)KO, round 1.
