Author:

Hello fans I’m “Sunshine” Weston Markson, along with my partner Rudy “The Box” Knife and we are here to discuss HMMA 90! This is going to be a solid event with some great value, we have some good contenders fighting, and a huge comeback is in store the greatest fighter in HMMA history has found his way back to the fight game after an extended time away.

Rudy:  You know im really excited about this card and in particular the second half of the card is going to be very interesting.  Most importantly im excited to see the most decorated fighter in HMMA history come back against the 3rd ranked fighter Masaru Hideki.

MAIN EVENT

#7 Randy "Bouncy Balls" Marsh (24-16) v "Lost" Jack Infamous (18-14)

Weston:  The main event of HMMA 90 is a welterweight fight between two men who could be contenders in the division.  Randy Marsh made his HMMA debut in his last fight out against now #1 contender in the division Richard Nixon.  It was a close back and forth controversial decision that has led some to think what if Marsh had won that fight where would he be ranked now?  Marsh I know wants to prove he is one of the top fighters in HMMA’s crowded welterweight division and that the split decision loss to the number one contender was one in which he should have won, but to do so first he must test Jack Infamous.   Infamous is well known and a former two time champion and HoF member of formally well known Fighters First Championship, an affiliate of HMMA.  Infamous came over to HMMA and wanted to make a statement against one of the best fighters in the division, he asked for a fight with Marsh and Marsh didn’t back down, now these two welterweight warriors will duke it out to see who is the better man.

Rudy:  I cant say enough about either of these fighters, both are very very good,  and both will have an impact on this division as former champions of well respected orgs.  This matchup is two of the best welterweight ground fighters in all of MMA.  Marsh has the better BJJ skills and 6 wins by submission, but Infamous is absolutely vicious when he gets a guy on their back, his 16 wins by (T)KO are because of his brutal ground and pound skills.  I don’t think we need to worry about either of these two standing in this fight it could turn out to be one of the greatest ground battles HMMA has seen yet.

Prediction:  I expect Marsh to win this one.

CO-MAIN EVENT

"the Name is..." John Saunders (15-1-2) v  #3 Masaru "Faceless" Hideki (27-10-2)

Weston:  ARE YOU READY??? It’s the moment everyone has been waiting for since January the return of the greatest HMMA fighter in history…JOHN SAUNDERS!  Saunders is a legend this guy was once unbeatable, having won 15 fights before losing, having won 3 titles in 3 different weight classes, the former 3 weight class champion has returned. Saunders last fight ended with him being defeated for the first time ever, after the fight the news that would shock the world his heart was no longer in fighting, he had just lost the lightweight championship one of his 3 titles but he wanted an extended break from fighting.  His other two titles were vacated and he went on a long spiritual journey to find what was missing in his life.  Months passed and fight fans were left wondering if one of the greatest fighters would ever return and then it happened Saunders sent out a tweet to HMMA president Wilson Thieatcres. @tcres “ Its time for me to take my titles back.” It turns out after months of a spiritual journey what was missing from John Saunders life was….his titles.  Saunders has been going around letting the world know he will return to greatness and it will start when he steps in the cage against “Faceless”.  Masaru Hideki wanting to stay busy was waiting for a fight when HMMA president contacted his manager and said I have a huge fight for you, I know you are on your path towards title contention so why not fight the man who never lost his title belt?  Hideki jumped at the opportunity and said “The John Saunders”  its safe to say he values a win over the former champion a win that could help cement his own spot as a contender, a win that could help him solidify a legacy here in HMMA.  This is the most excited I have been for a fight since Saunders last fought I cant wait!

Rudy:  OMG this is unreal a day I never thought would come John Saunders is back!  This is a guy who was running through everyone he was always picked as an underdog and he always came out on top, but once again he is finding himself as an underdog going into this fight.  Saunders has finished 11 out of his 15 wins, 1 by submission and 10 by (T)KO.  His lone loss came when he last fought against one of the best strikers in HMMA Mike Tyson, but still even with the KO power, the ability to step up on the biggest stage, he comes in as an underdog against Masaru Hideki.  Hideki has the better overall skills and has also finished a high percentage of his fights at over 60%.  16 of those have been by (T)KO.  Hideki also has a better ground game then Saunders which could become his best chance for success with the power Saunders possess he may want to avoid the standup exchanges as much as possible.  So who takes this one, the returning greatest of all time, or the fighter looking to move closer to a title shot?

Prediction:  Hideki takes this one just to much rust for Saunders I think.

MAIN CARD

Retsu Kaioh (19-11)  v  Wade "The Fire" Stoker (18-10)

Weston:  The next fight is a heavyweight fight between Retsu Kaioh and Wade Stoker.  This fight is for two men looking to improve their ranking in the heavyweight division.   Kaioh has had an up and down career in HMMA at times he has looked like a contender even beating one of the great HMMA heavyweights and former champs, and at times he has looked like he isn’t even in the middle of the pack.  Now he will attempt to show he does belong in the top of the division by improving his overall record in HMMA to 5-3 at the expense of Wade Stoker.  Stoker’s last fight in HMMA was a debut loss against the 7th ranked heavyweight, now Stoker is out to prove he too should be ranked in the top 10 of the division.  A former multi-time champion in other respected orgs Stoker knows and believes he is one of the best and a mission to prove it starts now against Kaioh.

Rudy:  This clash is going to end badly two monster heavyweights with KO power,  one of them is getting knocked out, the other probably still goes to the hospital.  Both fighters are well rounded and have similar skills but neither of them tend to use their ground game much.  12 of Kaioh’s wins have come by (t)KO, and a whopping 15 out of 18 of Stoker’s wins have also come by (T)KO.  This one is going to get crazy as I imagine both will take the center of the cage and test each other’s chin.

Prediction:  Stoker by TKO

#2"Red Devil"  Mikal Helio (23-6)v  #8 Mr Gray (21-11-2)

Weston:  The next fight is a middleweight fight that could very well produce the next challenger for the title.  Mikal Helio’s last fight was his debut in HMMA against Bruce Lee.  Helio came out victorious improving his win streak to 3.  Now looking for a 4th straight win and a chance to possibly challenge the champion Helio meets Mr Gray.  Gray came into HMMA with a lot of expectations, but after his first fight some questioned if he was as good as what everyone thought, since that time he was strung together 4 straight wins and looking like the contender everyone expected.   A win here improves his ranking and could catapult him towards title contention.

Rudy:  This is a fight that could very well manufacture the next title challenger.  These two are very evenly matched and have the ability to fight wherever the fight is contested.  Helio is primarily a ground fighter having won 6 of his fights by submission.  Gray usually ends up working in takedowns into his fights, he is also more of a ground fighter, this fight could turn out to be one of those great ground battles, or a fun battle between two guys who cant get each other to the ground and end up slugging it out.

Prediction:  I have went back and forth on this one, but I think Gray takes it.

Tom “Mellow” Yellow (22-16) v  Raul Portugis (18-7)

Weston:  The next fight on the main card is a welterweight battle between Tom Yellow, and Raul Portugis.  Both fighters are still some wheat new to HMMA Yellow is 1-1, and Portugis 1-0 So this fight should be good to determine where both fighters stand in the division.  Wins here will help make a case for either fighter getting a step up in competition and a chance to get ranked in this stacked division.  Personally I think they both have what it takes to be successful here in HMMA but time will tell if I am right or the moron my partner says I am.

Rudy:  Portugis is the more well-rounded fighter in this one he is good from all areas but maybe not great in any.   Strategically Portugis is a night mare for fighters with holes in their game because he can do everything, he can stay at striking distance, take the fight to the clinch, and take the fight to the ground.  He often likes getting in the clinch and has shown good skills from there.  Yellow makes no bones about his game, he is a world class striker, his striking skills have earned him 14 (T)KO wins.  He can hold his own and does a good job avoiding trouble there, but he is at a disadvantage if Portugis decides to take the fight there.

Prediction:  I think Portugis wins by TKO.

Nadi Tsunami (8-2)  v  Scott Lewis (11-3)

Weston:  The first fight on the main card is a lightweight fight as Nadi Tsunami takes on Scott Lewis.  Tsunami could be a hot up and coming prospect with a record of 8-2 overall and 2-0 since joining HMMA.  A win here against HMMA veteran Scott Lewis could put everyone in the division on high notice that this prospect may be headed for big things.  Scott Lewis has always been dangerous off an on he has found himself ranked in the top 10 of the division.  Another 3 fight win streak is creeping Lewis back up to ranked status again and a win over Tsunami could get him both a 4th win and a spot in the top 10.

Rudy:  This is quietly one of my favorite fights on the card.  These two lightweights know how to put on a good show and Lewis is one of the more underrated fighters in this division.  This is a fight between two brown belts with a total of 12 submission wins between the two of them.  When this fight starts I expect both will do everything they can to get this fight on the ground and see who has the better submission skills.

Prediction:  Tsunami by decision.
