Event Preview: HMMA 91 Fighter v Leach
HEROIC
2013-07-06, London, Camden Conference Centre
Author:

Hello everyone I am “Sunshine” Weston Markson, and this fella here is my partner Rudy “The Box” Knife and we are here to discuss the crazy weekend as HMMA takes over London once again with not one but two events.  The first event is HMMA 91 live on PPV its sure to be a breathe taking night as the card is star studded with champions, former champions, Hall of famers, and who knows maybe some future champs and HoFers.  All I know is Saturday is gonna be an exciting night for a hoedown.

Rudy:  What?  Once again I see you fail to mention the main attraction as I see it, the greatest BJJ practitioner in ALLLLL of MMA Masahiko Kimura!   That’s right people Kimura is here to show the world what its like to tap out  a red belt.  There are some other people fighting on this card but none greater then my BFF!

MAIN EVENT

#2 Jai Malek (27-7)  v C/#1  Shane Luger (20-3)    265 lbs title

Weston:   The main event of HMMA is going to be intense, a heavyweight title fight between the returning Jai Malek and Shane Luger.  Malek last fought in HMMA on Tcres’s birthday in April, after that fight he went on a conquering world tour now riding a 6 fight win streak and 2-0 in HMMA he jumps in to face the champion.  Luger has been excellent since joining HMMA going 3-0, in his last fight he ran his overall win streak up to 9 straight, looking for his first 10 fight win streak of his career and an opportunity to move closer to the ultimate goal of being the top heavyweight in the world a win over Malek could do wonders for his legacy and move him very close to achieving his ultimate goal.

Rudy:  Its only been a few short weeks since we last had the opportunity to see Luger fight but it seemed like forever, I love watching this guy fight he always brings his best and being the champion he always gets everyone’s best.  Malek is someone I have been excited to see return to HMMA this could be one of those interesting fights I think some may be over looking Malek but that would be a mistake he has awesome skills overall and some very sick KO power, he has won 22 of his 27 wins by (T)KO.  Luger also has power having 15 of his 20 wins by (T)KO.  I expect both men will strike in this one at least until one fella gets the upper hand, but this one could be over at any moment with the power these two encompass.  One of these two men get their first HMMA loss but who is it going to be?

Prediction:  Honestly I don’t know who wins this one but ill go with the champ because he the champ.

CO-MAIN EVENT

#3 “Average” OK Fighter (16-3) v  #4 Matt "$Dollar$" Leach (8-1)

Weston:  The CO-MAIN event may not be between two heavyweight power factories, but it is between two middleweight nuclear facilitators.  This middleweight contest could be one of the biggest in the division in some time, both of these guys are ranked in the top 5, and both are looking strong lately.  Fighter is riding a two fight win streak, and sitting pretty at 1-0 in HMMA, gaining a lot of steam as he makes a case for being one of the top fighters in the division.   Leach on the other hand is on a 5 fight win streak and making waves himself as he is starting to knock off and knockout contenders, he looks stronger, faster, and more skilled every time we see him in the cage and I expect no different Saturday.

Rudy:  Sluggers, that’s what these two are, two middleweights who know how to throw bombs in the middle of the cage.  Ok Fighter has never won by anything other then (T)KO if he lands clean he puts you out.  Leach also has shown some very solid power having won six of his eight by (T)KO,  and 3 out of his last 4.  I have no expectations of ground battle here so lets all just sit back and enjoy this one.  If either fighter has a weakness its that Leach has a tendency to bleed so expect blood, and concussions because this one isn’t going to end until one of these fighters in unconscious.

Prediction:  I think either fighter could win this one, but Ill take Ok Fighter by cut.

MAIN CARD

#3 "The Gracie Killer" Masahiko Kimura (12-2) v  #6 Furious  “Fury” George (18-8)

Rudy:  AND NOW THE FIGHT THAT EVERYONE HAS BEEN WAITING FOR!!!!!!! Masahiko Kimura and “Fury” George, two amazing BJJ fighters.  Everyone knows Kimura is the best BJJ fighter on the planet but George believes he is better, technically he does have a red belt but the old saying in BJJ is belts are not a true measure of ones skill level.  It is my belief that Kimura will put George to sleep with a triangle choke.

Weston:  umm Rudy I think you stole my lead again, everyone is sick and tired of your tired biased ass commentary about the self proclaimed greatest BJJ blab la bla, I have better BJJ then Kimura, and so does George, that is why I think George wins this one by Kimura’s doggy paddle is going to be no match for the legit skills of George when he armbars his way to victory over “Mas”

French Toast (16-6) v  Johnny "Handsome" Turk (22-14)

Weston:  The third fight on the main card is a heavyweight clash between the greatest HMMA heavyweight of all time French Toast, and Johnny Turk.  Toast is Heroic, a member of HMMA’s HoF.  A two time champion,  and one of the greatest and most popular fighters to ever grace HMMA’s cage, but Toast hasn’t been the same since losing his title for the second time in late January.  Since that loss Toast has gone 1-4 and is now sitting at two straight losses, Toast is never kept down long so im sure he will be back in the top of division soon, Johnny Turk on the other hand is looking to make a name for himself at Toast’s expense.  After Dropping his first two fights in HMMA Turk rebounded in his last fight to get his first win, he now has the opportunity to do something so few have done and beat Toast.  Its not long ago these two fighters were dominant, and for one of them this fight could push them back towards the upper levels of the pack.

Rudy:  I always love seeing Toast fight, and I know Tcres does too, we all know GNP is Toast’s game his top game is absolutely brutal one of the best of all time at pouring on GNP at just the right time to (T)KO his foes.  Between the two fighters there are 30 (T)KO victories, although Turk has gotten more standing then by GNP.  Turk does have that ability but he is primarily putting people to sleep with his striking skills.  I believe this fight is a battle of attrition that will be decided at the hands of the fighter who better employ’s their style.

Prediction:  Toast by decision.

#6 Mr Translucent (16-9) v  # 10 Lasi “The Draw” Kukko  (28-14-2)

Weston:  The second fight on the main card is a middleweight fight between two ranked fighters with title aspirations, Translucent just got done facing the champion, and Kukko is a former champion looking to return to form.  I think a lot of people underestimate Lasi Kukko he seems to be the forgotten fighter in the middleweight division, but forget no more because Kukko is determined to rise again and make another run towards the championship, to do so he must start with defeating a familiar face.  Mr Translucent, the fighter who just a few short weeks ago fought for the championship, the same fighter who holds a submission victory over Kukko.  These two guys are determined to be the best and meet again, one hoping for the same outcome, the other vengeance.

Rudy:  You know Weston you are right it seems like a lot of people forget about Kukko he is always lurking right around that top 10 status and is always just a couple wins away from being a contender, as a former champion you have to expect him to make another run and a little payback on Mr. Translucent may be the recipe.  Once upon a time I thought Kukko had the best BJJ in the middleweight division, but its hard to argue that anymore since he lost to Translucent by submission, that’s when I realized he is the real deal on the ground, even though Kukko has the better submission pedigree its hard to argue with past results.  I think this fight could turn to be an all out MMA contest and a war on the ground if the fight gets there.

Prediction:  I think Kukko takes this one its my upset pick.

"Even-" Kiel Flay (9-3) v  "Bazinga" Gugo Ograni (24-11-1)

Weston:  The first fight on the main card is going to set the mood for the rest of the night off right.   Two top notch balls to the wall middleweights who hold nothing back and look for the finish anyway possible from the opening bell.  Both of these fighters are looking to rebound their careers and move back towards the top 10.  “Bazinga” started that path in his last outing with a win over Dan Gerous.  Flay will attempt to start that path Saturday against Ograni.  One of these two will take a step forward towards the top of the division and inching closer to ranked status again, and one a small step back.

Rudy:  I always love watching these two fight.  26 out of their 33 wins have been by some sort of finish, for “Even” Its been by (T)KO having won 7 out of his 9 victories in that method, for “Bazinga” its been a mix but mostly submissions 12 of his 19 finishes have been by submission.  Ograni has been one of the divisions very good fighters for a long time and has shown he can be dangerous wherever the fight takes place, the question is, how will these two handle each other when they are in the others world.

Prediction:  If the fight stays standing Keil wins, if it goes to the ground Gugo takes it.
