UNDER CARD

Super Heavyweight Fight

Stef Jalz (5-8, 0-4 NGF) v Sawyer Hume (3-0, 1-0 NGF)

We got to see Sawyer Hume for the first time and let me say to the rest of the super heavyweight division, you better start training up your clinching and Muay Thai.  Hume took the fight to the clinch and he continued his dominance with his dirty boxing and Muay Thai.  Stef Jalz stood no chance in this one, he tried desperately to push away and to land knees, but Hume’s uppercuts were finding their mark over and over and eventually the ref had to save Jalz at 2:16 of the 1st round.

Middleweight Fight

Nigel McHughes (10-9-1, 2-3 NGF) v Meg Didion (5-4, 2-3 NGF)

We can now say this; a woman just can’t compete with men inside the octagon.  Nigel McHughes made Meg Didion look silly out there.  Didion was overmatched from the start, she is undersized to most men, but completely nowhere near as strong as McHughes and he demolished her.  Didion didn’t land a single punch and McHughes battered and cut Didion up.  Didion eventually was TKO’ed at 56 seconds of the round, and thankfully this experiment is over.  Didion got up, sobbing and announced to everyone that she was retiring.  Nigel McHughes went to the microphone and asked Didion out after the fight.

Super Heavyweight Fight

#14 Leopold Stotch (7-5, 2-4 NGF) v #12 Buddy Threadgood (7-5, 6-5 NGF)

WOW, what a finish in this fight.  I thought Leopold Stotch would get the highlight reel KO, but it was Buddy Threadgood sparking his career and getting the KOTN and possibly the KOTY.  Threadgood and Stotch both have flash KO power it’s just a question of who would get it.  Threadgood first landed a nice quick jab, something he doesn’t do much, it snapped Stotch’s head back and cut him up.  Then Threadgood landed a beautiful combination that rocked and knocked Stotch to the mat.  Then at 28 seconds of the round, Threadgood fired off a superman punch that landed perfectly on the button of Stotch and KO’ed him COLD and he fell to the mat in a bloody mess.  Why does Threadgood do this to us, he looks like his career is over than he comes out and shows he is still learning things and now you start to wonder if he is still a force in the division.

Light Heavyweight Fight

Vinicius Oliveira (6-4, 6-3 NGF) v Travis Jones (10-5, 6-4 NGF)

I thought Travis Jones would be able to do a little more in this one, I knew this was going to be a close fight, but Vinicius Oliveira was awesome on the ground.  It was clear that Jones wanted to keep this fight standing, he tried to take it to the clinch right away, but Oliveira was able to push away and get a double leg take down.  These guys didn’t do a whole lot to start; the 1st round saw them go to the mat 3 different times with 2 referee stand ups.  In the fight Oliveira was 4-4 in take downs and in the 2nd round, Oliveira got the take down and while Jones looked to be stalling, Oliveira locked up a beautiful guillotine and after a few seconds, Jones refused to tap, but he went sleepy sleep and that was it, Oliveira tossed off the limp Jones and jumped on the top of the rail to celebrate.  I’m not sure if he was celebrating the win or the extra 5 grand in his pocket for the SOTN.

Super Heavyweight Fight

Paulo Cesar Silva (5-3 NGF) v #11 Vic Miller (6-4, 2-1 NGF)

A devastating loss here by Vic Miller and a huge win by Paulo Cesar Silva.  Miller came in a heavy favorite, but Silva was able to get 4 take downs and Miller was reduced to having to defend and try and escape the entire fight.  Silva had the perfect game plan…ok, it’s the same game plan as he always has, but Miller had no answers for it.  Like I thought , it wasn’t a real exciting fight, but Silva was a beast on the mat landing 10-13 ground strikes and he pounded out the victory 3:31 into the 2nd round.

MAIN CARD

Bantamweight Fight

#5 Matti Teitsi (5-4, 2-1 NGF) v #3 Yoshiteru Goto (11-7-1, 5-1 NGF)

What a fight here between Matti Teitsi and Yoshiteru Goto and this was the FOTN runner up.  This fight was almost a pure Muay Thai and clinch fight, only a few seconds of every round were spend out of the clinch.  After a few strikes were thrown to start, Goto took the fight in the clinch.  It was a hard fought round, back and forth in the clinch; Teitsi did snap Goto’s head back a few times with some nice lefts.  Goto did nice work also; he landed some good shots that scored points with the judges. The 2nd was more clinch work striking, nice punches and not much else.  Neither fighter attempted any knees or elbows, it was all punching and shoulder strikes.  Goto was the more aggressive fighter in the 2nd, he attempted more strikes and he looked like he did more.   In the 3rd it was Goto that landed the first real big strike, an uppercut that snapped Teitsi’s head back words and looked like it wobbled him for a second.  In the end Matti Teitsi landed 32-60 head punches in the clinch and 11-43 body punches, while Yoshiteru Goto landed 40-80 head punches and 6-12 body punches.  The judges ruled it 30-27,30-28,30-27 in favor of Yoshiteru Goto.

Heavyweight Fight

Roman Kowalski (9-7, 6-5 NGF) v #7 Stevie Gonzales (13-1, 2-0 NGF)

There is one thing to say and that’s Stevie Gonzales has made me a believer.  Gonzales continued with his amazing accuracy in this one, landing 100% in everything, 5-5 in head punches, 4-4 in body punches, 1-1 in the clinch and 3-3 in improving his position on the ground.  Roman Kowalski got the fight where he wanted, on the ground, but Gonzales even defended amazing and Kowalski was 0-9 in his ground striking.  Kowalski looked quick like always, but he just couldn’t get anything going, there was one time when Kowalski was able to land a nice counter strike that did cut Gonzales, but that’s about all the damage he really took.  Gonzales countered nicely, he looked strong when he was able to push away from clinch attempts and his defense was brilliant as always.  Around the 1:20 mark of the round, Gonzales was able to land a hard right hand and that knocked Kowalski down, he did  bounce right back up, but he was clearly in trouble and he was bleeding very heavy around his right eye.  Gonzales moved in for the kill and he landed another monster shot that sent Kowalski down, flat to the mat and he looked out and as Gonzales jumped on top of him, the ref got there about the same time and right when the ref started to wave off the fight, Kowalski started moving trying to get back into the fight.  You could see Roman was upset about the stoppage, but he was clearly done.

Heavyweight Fight

#3 Henkka Seppala (5-0 NGF) v #2 Randall Cunningham (12-3-1, 2-1 NGF)

This is the #1 contender fight to see who will go on to fight current champion Jima Jamm.  The fight started pretty slow, Randall Cunningham took the fight to the clinch right away, but nothing really happened, Henkka Seppala was trying to get out and Cunningham was trying to keep him in, but no strikes were landing.  Seppala did finally break away and he responded by firing a uppercut that caught Cunningham coming back in for a clinch, it rocked Cunningham and had him wobbly.  Seppala than landed a big right hand that sent Cunningham crashing to the mat and I thought the fight was over, but Cunningham did some sort of back roll and hopped right back up.  Cunningham then spent the next minute attacking the legs of Henkka, he landed some very nice inside kicks that you could tell stopped Seppala a bit in his attack.  Right around the 3 minute mark, Seppala used quick feet to move in and land a 3 punch combination that sent Cunningham to the canvas again, but again, Cunningham bounced right back up.  In the 2nd, it was just after the 1 minute mark where Seppala came in again and landed a nice combination that put Cunningham down for a 3rd time in this fight, but Seppala didn’t follow and Randall got back to his feet.  In the 3rd Cunningham, who did most of his damage with leg kicks, landed a nice leg kick to start, but Seppala responded with a monster hook that drilled Cunningham around the temple and he was down on the canvas for a 4th time and he was in big trouble, but Seppala backed away and let him up.  Cunningham tried to stay in this fight, he tried to get in the clinch, but Seppala easily broke free.  Cunningham landed a few nice jabs and some defensive type strikes, but he was clearly going to be on the wrong end of something in this fight, a punch or a decision.  Right before the 2 minute mark, Seppala landed another monster hook that looked like a replay of the earlier hook in this round, it landed right on the temple and Cunningham was down for a 5th time.  At this time I just wanted the fight to be over, I was starting to feel bad for Randall, but Seppala let him get back up again.  30 seconds later was the final barrage, Seppala drilled Cunningham with a body shot that hurt him bad, he then landed a huge overhand right, then another, followed by a big left hand, Cunningham was basically out on his feet, he was stumbling and falling backwards when Seppala hit him with the last shot, a massive right hand and Cunningham was out and fell to the mat backwards.  A monster fight for Henkka Seppala and he showed why he is the #1 contender.  These guys go the FOTN for this amazing fight.

Co-Main Event:

Light Heavyweight Fight

Gunner Malone (16-8, 1-4 NGF) v #12 Johnny Jackson (13-5, 4-2 NGF)

It has been a real rough go for Gunner Malone in the NGF, he has had no answers and in this one, again, he looked not prepared for a game plan.  Johnny Jackson took this fight in the clinch just a few seconds in and he complete took over the fight.  Jackson controlled Malone and didn’t allow him to break free or to land many strikes at all; Gunner landed just 5 of 20 strikes in the clinch.  Right away though, it was Malone who landed some nice shots in the clinch, but soon after Jackson took over.  Jackson got very aggressive, he took over because of the shear amount of punch attempts, he wasn’t landing a great deal as Malone did a nice job of locking up the arms of Jackson, but eventually, when you attempt 70 punches, some of those are going to get through.  Just past the 3 minute mark, some of those attempts did get through and Malone was wobbled and rocked by a couple of them.  Around the 4 minute mark you could see Malone was breathing very heavy and Jackson was wearing him out.   At 4:30, Jackson landed a monster uppercut that popped Malone’s head up and back and he went down to his knees, Jackson took advantage and started raining shots down on the fallen opponent until the ref stopped the fight at 4:49 of the 1st.

Main Event

Bantamweight Title Fight

#1 Harald Andersson (8-2, 7-2 NGF) v C-Andrzej Gajewski (18-2-1, 6-0 NGF)

Harald Andersson has been waiting for another title shot and he came out ready to shock the world.  Andersson was super aggressive to start this fight, he went right after the legs of Andrzej Gajewski and when Gajewski took the fight to the clinch, Andersson was the more aggressive fighter.  Andersson was beating Gajewski to everything, he was first with the kicks, first with the punch and he made Gajewski go on the defensive for the 1st round.  It was really a defensive battle in the first, but Andersson was the more aggressive guy, he landed more and he took round 1.  In the 2nd, it was again, Andersson who was first with a punch, a counter jab that snapped Gajewski’s head back.  And again, Gajewski was missing most of his strikes and you could see a hint, just a hint, but it was there, frustration.  Andersson looked good, he was quick, he was bouncing and was darting in and out, you could tell he was ready for this fight.  That feeling all changed in a second, just after the 1 minute mark, Andersson loaded up for a leg kick, he missed and he kinda turned himself around and put himself off balance and in a bad position, Gajewski spotted it and fire off a head kick which landed perfectly on the side of Anderssons face and instantly crumbled him to the canvas.  Still rocked, Andersson scramble back up to continue the fight, but he was in bad shape now.  Gajewski clinched up with Andersson, I believe so he could just keep him still, after a few seconds of holding Andersson, Gajewski pushed away and then unleashed a massive uppercut that had Anderssons eyes rolling and he fell to his knees, Gajewski started pounding away and this fight was stopped 1:32 of the 2nd round and STILL BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPION, ANDRZEJ GAJEWSKI!  I felt bad for Harald Andersson, he looked very good, but one mistake, one missed kick turned this fight around and with a great champion like Andrzej, you can’t make a mistake.
