OverComing 5: Nowack vs. Cheese! REVIEW

Event Review: O5: Nowack vs Cheese
Overcoming (ID 155k+)
2012-02-12, Amsterdam, The Underground - Amsterdam
Attendance:998, Event Rating:94
Author:K Rad

My sweet little dumplings, K-Rad here, undressing you with his eyes as he gives you the rundown of all the action from OC5: Nowack vs. Cheese. I know you wait for me every few days, just like you wait for that girl with the pretty hair on the bus that you enjoy sniffing so much, so here I am to give you your medicine. This was OC's 1st foray into the 1000 man The Underground arena in Amsterdam and it was a bee's dick off selling out with 998 fans with exceptionally poor personal hygiene and their own peculiar bouquet to match turning out to cheer on their favourite fighters in a night which saw previous event ratings for the organisation smashed and the true potential of this great organisation really starting to shine. That's enough of riding on @JakubWest 's (tweet tweet crackers) pole, so let's take a look at the fights:

"The Stunner" Jenna Haze vs. Chael Sonnen
Middleweight

1st up on the overcard, middleweights "The Stunner" Haze and Sonnen. The results are back and it appears Sonnen has passed the drug test so we should be seeing him fight again in the near future and after the result of this fight you can bet that is a good thing. Sonnen was aggressive straight up, allowing Haze to take the fight to the floor but the big fatty "Stunner" was unable to capitalise and as soon as he managed to roll the big lump off of him Sonnen took to his feet. Haze managed to land one nice kick whilst standing before he return to the mat, this time with the help of Sonnen's massive combination which left "The Stunner" stunned. Who would have seen that coming? Sonnen didn't let up in his assault, only taking the time to stand and then unleashing another combination, big badda boom, 3 hits in a row which left Haze out cold, out classed and out of the fight at 0:59 of round 1, Sonnen taking the fight via punching KO.

Marcin "Koza" Kozajowski vs. Fabricio "Plaksa" Werdum
Super Heavyweight

The big units hit the cage next as open weights "Koza" Kozajowski and "Plaksa" Werdum fought for dominance, fisticuffs style. I commented in the preview that this fight was all about who could strike 1st, "Koza's" KO punch or "Plaksa's" submission and that it most certainly wasn't going to be decided by the judges. So of course these 2 dinguses went on to battle out the entire 3 rounds just to spite me. Well, the joke is on you boys, I spat in your gatorade during the final round. I also have hepatitis which I caught from a wild night with Pamela Anderson and a donkey I shall call "Lucky" for anonymity. The fight started how I had predicted, "Plaksa" being cut in mere seconds from a solid "Koza" punch before taking the fight down and piling on the submissions. This trend of Werdum ground dominance continued over the entire fight, Kozajowski only managing to land 1 more punch the entire fight but for some reason "Plaksa" just wasn't able to finish. Performance anxiety? That would explain the way his girlfriend kept looking at me and winking while tonguing the cherry stem in her drink. Don't worry Werdum, girls who drink straight bourbon with a cherry in it aren't my type, they're usually dudes. Dudes who like dudes. So after 3 rounds and a lot of action that resulted in nothing, the judges who I swore wouldn't be necessary, were necessary, and they scored the fight unanimously in favour of "Plaksa" Werdum 30:27 in a truly dominating effort, of sorts.

Colt Peacemaker vs. Alessandro "Defender" Nestea
Super Heavyweight.

2 undefeated big boys up next with open weights Peacemaker and "Defender" Nestea going toe-to-toe in the cage. Apart from ruining someone's record this is a bout which is likely to be important in deciding who the 1st challenger is for the SHW title which is being decided as the main event this evening. With all that out of the way, I have to say it was nice to predict this fight correctly. Peacemaker wanted to stand, Nestea wanted to go down but "Defender" has been lacklustre in his ability to finish fights and this showed again today when he took a bunch of hits before taking Peacemaker down only to be stood back up due to a lack of action. Nestea is going to have to work on this as standing is exactly where he didn't want to be, as proved by the flogging he copped, eventually being rocked by a big Peacemaker combination before being dropped like an ugly baby with leprosy to the canvas by an overhand right which Samson would have been proud of. Peacemaker didn't mess around, piling on the strikes until the referee had seen enough and awarded him the win via striking TKO at 2:57 of round 1.

Junior "Bad Boy" Maia vs. Jordan Statham
Middleweight. Co-Main Event!

No surprises in the co-main event in regards to the style of the fight as both "Bad Boy" Maia and Statham prefer to grapple and all 3 rounds took place on the ground. What was a surprise was the excitement levels of the fight during what was effectively 15 minutes of 2 men rubbing up, touching and dry humping each other in a cage. Given this fight took place in Amsterdam I imagine many spectators have probably seen a similar display many a time before, though in a dingier location and for a much lower admission price. The biggest surprise in this fight which saw Statham control and dictate the terms in all 3 rounds, was the forementioned fighter's accuracy in his ground and pound. Statham landed a staggering 38 from 38 shots from the ground and his opponent Maia had absolutely no reply making the judge's decision a piece of hashcake as they gave the unanimous decision victory to Statham, 30:27.

Firco Nowack vs. "Dammer" Chuck Cheese
Super Heavyweight. Main Event TITLE FIGHT!

Well, there isn't much to say about this fight given it almost wasn't a fight at all if you take into a consideration a fight requires at least 2 people to be involved. "Dammer" managed to remind people he was contending for the open weight title by landing 1 knee in the clinch, as opposed to the champ Nowack who brutalised Cheese with 3 big head kicks, the 1st dropped Cheese. The 2nd dropped cheese, cut and rocked him like some terrible black metal band coming out of Norway and the 3rd turned out the lights in brutal style as Nowack retained his title via headkick KO at 0:52 of round 1. Massively impressive skills on this young man.

WRAPUP:
No awards had been given at the time of writing but I shall cover the 2 undercard fights which I previewed due to a mix up in the card order as I am sure you're all dying to know who came out on top!

Itay Elgad vs. Cro Cop
Lightweight

I picked this lightweight fight to depend on intelligence and gas tank and seeing as how Elgad basically means 'the gas' in Portuguese (I made that up) he seemed the likeliest candidate. Elgad didn't let me down either as he managed to keep Cop from submitting him after taking him down and proceeded to pound and pound his opponent until he was stunned, dominating the 1st round. Elgad continued to dominate the 2nd round with strong wrestling and grappling as Cop wasn't sure what to do and finally in the 3rd he made his decision: Get the snot beat out of you and lose. Elgad's GNP was just too strong and by 1:49 of round 3 the referee had seen enough and awarded Elgas the striking TKO.

Irio "Martial" Arts vs. Benny "The Jet" Urquidez
Middleweight

I am not really sure what happened in this middleweight bout between "Martial" Arts and "The Jet" Urquidez. As expected, it was a Thai battle extraordinaire due to "Martial's" appalling wrestling and inability to put his BJJ into action, but despite being cut open 3 times during the fight and being very lucky to avoid the doctor it seems that Arts won a very closely fought battle on pure aggression. "The Jet" dominated the clinch, landing far, far more strikes, in fact Arts landed 1 from 81 shots thrown, yet Arts dominated the ranged striking landing 30 shots in all. "The Jet" would feel disappointed as he lost the unanimous decision, 28:29 and would feel he threw the bigger and more telling strikes but "Martial" Arts will be overjoyed ande would smile if anyone could see it through the blood.

There it is lads and ladettes, OverComing 5: Nowack vs. Cheese has been summarised and molested by me, K-Rad in my usual scintillating form.
