Valentines Day has come and gone and now the love is over and its back to fighting! Bloody Fist Fight League will be holding BFFL40 on 18th of Feb in the 1000 seat Underground arena in London and with the Featherweight title on the line there is a lot to fight for so let’s jump in and check out the action.
265lbs-Mark "Questions" Adams (14-6-1) vs. "Gatt" Ante Gattuso (6-8-0) .
Opening fight of the night and its shaping up to be a cracker! Adams is making his BFFL debut in this one and is a very dangerous man to face off against. With Remarkable Boxing and a Black belt in BJJ he is not to be taken lightly but Gattuso may be his match. Gattuso has Wonderful Boxing and a Brown belt making this a great match up to watch, but these two have different strategy. Adams uses his BJJ to win fights, 10 submissions so far and just 1 TKO while Gattuso uses his hands, all his 6 wins have come via (T)KO. A problem for Adams is that his Wrestling is inferior to his opponents and that may make getting a takedown so he can use his Black belt hard to do, he does have a chance on feet though if he can’t score a takedown. Gattuso has been (T)KO’ed 7 times in his career showing his chin can be gotten at but there is always the threat he will take you out before you take him out and with Adams looking to make a winning start to his new Org life he won’t want to make a silly mistake.
205lb-"The Manifestation of Evil" Kari Moukari (11-3-0) vs. Hatsu Matsu (4-0-0)
Another top class fight up next with alt at stake. Both these men have only one weakness and that Muay Thai, their other skills are all top class. Matsu has used his Exceptional Boxing and Wrestling plus his Brown belt to go unbeaten so far and won’t want that to change here but his opponent has made a habit out of winning! Moukari has been on good form, scoring TKO wins using his Wonderful Boxing as well as submissions with his Remarkable Wrestling and Brown belt meaning he is comfy with the fight happening anywhere. This should be interesting to see what each fighter does, its hard to tell with both having Brown belts if one will try to go to ground or both will be happy to stand and bang but whatever each does they need to win. I have been told that the winner of this fight will take on Ace Surprise the current Light Heavyweight champion! Moukari has done this once before and come up on the losing end of the fight so he will want another crack, while Matsu will want to test his mettle against the champion early in his career and see how good he really is.
170lbs-"Mayhem" Mixtli Azteca (4-2-0) vs. Roberto DeNero (5-2-0)
This is a match up of very different fighters. Azteca is very much a stand and bang type. With Exceptional Boxing and Wrestling he doesn’t want to find himself in a position to have to rely on his Blue belt to defend himself as it has let him down twice already (his 2 losses have been via submission) DeNero has very little stand up skills but does have a Black belt in BJJ and that is his main weapon. So strategy wise it’s easy to see what each fighter wants, DeNero can’t hang on feet and Azteca can’t hang on the ground so it’s their wrestling which will play a big part and that’s not good news for DeNero. His is not nearly as good as his opponents here so he may find getting the takedown he so desperately needs a tough thing to do and that hands a huge advantage to Azteca but he has to watch out for getting over confident and letting a surprise shoot succeed because if he is on his back he has pretty much no chance. There is something to fight for here too, the winner will get themselves into the mix for a title shot, something that Azteca would dearly love as he has challenged and lost before while DeNero is looking to score a title shot very early in his BFFL career.
170lbs-Yaroslav "Wolf" Lyutov (7-2-0) vs. Domink "The British Destroyer" Stansbury (8-2-0)
This fight just goes to how that you don’t need amazing stats to be successful. Both fighters have just standard primary skills, Lyutov has Superb Boxing, Respectable Muay Thai, Strong Wrestling and a White belt while his opponent Stansbury has Abysmal Boxing and Muay Thai, Superb Wrestling and a Purple belt yet between them they have plenty of wins and few losses. They do fight very differently too, Lyutov really has to keep fights on the feet, his BJJ I too weak to be of use if he is on his back and his Boxing is his best asset to score wins with while Stansbury is the opposite, he needs fights on the ground here he can use some GnP and try for submission, if he is forced to fight on feet he has little chance at all and so its all going to come down to who can put their plan to better effect. The fight starts on feet and so that gives the advantage to Lyutov but his Wrestling is not so good that I would say he can easily avoid takedowns that are thrown his way. I think it will all come down to can he stop Stansbury before he is taken down and finished himself? Well his efforts will be hampered by the fact his moral is at rock bottom despite the winner of this fight getting a contenders fight next, is that playing on his mind or is there other things at work such as dirty clothes? Whatever the problem Stansbury goes in the fave because of it.
145lbs title fight-Carl "Attitude Adjuster" Ramos (16-9-0) vs. "Tornado" Terrance Smith (16-3-0) (Champion)
Main Even time and this one comes in the Featherweight division and see’s Smith look to defend his title for the 3rd time against a man he is no stranger to. The first fight that Smith had in BFFL was against Ramos and he won it via split decision, something that Ramos has not forgotten or forgiven. Now those he gets a chance avenge that loss and do it for the big prize. On paper these two are quite evenly matched, which may have been why the decision was split before, although Ramos does have the better stats of the two in all but wrestling the differences are small such as in Boxing which is Wonderful vs. Remarkable. So with things being so even and both men knowing something about the strategy of the other due to their first fight it is likely to be something else which tips the balance and that may well be moral. It has a big effect on fighter performance and right now both need a boost but critically the challenger more then the champ. Ramos is at rock bottom right now while Smith has about half his max, both really could do with getting it sorted quickly before the fight but if they don’t then this throw the fight into the hands of Smith if you ask me and will see him do a double over the challenger and take his current good run of wins to 7 wins in a row.
And that is it for another event, it’s looking like another great one to come and I hope you will all take the time to place a bet or ten at the official bookies! Nothing left for me to say right now those other then thanks for reading, I’m Kurt Hustle saying until next week stay safe and keep fighting!
