AMSFC 14

Good Morning Amsterdam,

Tonight we've got one of the biggest match ups in AMS history and we welcome exciting new talent to the org as part of this stacked card in front of a sell out crowd.

Slow news week so let's get straight to the fights

Raimo Rento (0 - 0) Vs Fifty Tyson (2 - 4)

Su Li Nah (1-0) Vs Felipe Caotico (2-3)

Big Dawg (1-3) Vs Beef Mode (2-2)

Macky Jawara (2-1) Vs Phillip Askos (2-3)

Julio Prieto (1-0) Vs Jose Mera (3-2)

Lue "Toto" Goose (2-0) Vs Tatenda "Scissor" Ihejirika (2-1)

This match heralds one of the more extreme size differentials ever seen in the Org.  At 6 foot 9, Goose is a veritable giant, in spite of his lanky proportions.  Meanwhile his opponent will be giving up over 16 inches in height, entering the cage as he does at 5 foot 5.  While height and reach can be a huge advantage, I'm expecting the Scissor to cope pretty well with the stature of his opponent.  Goose is a BJJ player who is really still only just developing the rest of his MMA game and although Tatenda might be young, there's no arguing that he's very well rounded, with no major holes in any area of his game.  He should have a considerable advantage on the feet, assuming he can get in range and I'm asking myself "How exactly does a lanky giant wrestle a rotund dwarf to the floor?"  I don't know, but it'll be fun finding out.

Fernando "Lo" Weissenberg (4-2) Vs Dark Daemon (3-1)

Our former champ and perennial lightweight contender, Weissenberg, gets tasked with welcoming Daemon to the division.  Fernando is too talented of a grappler to really call this one your traditional "Striker vs Grappler" match up, but it may well turn into that as Daemon has some very slick BJJ and I'm expecting to see Lo use his wrestling in reverse and do everything possible to keep this one on the feet.  All of Dark's three victories have come by way of stoppage in the first round utilising his hyper aggressive submission and G'n'P attack.  Meanwhile Weissenberg is by far and away the better boxer, with crisp punches and plenty of power in his hands, he could absolutely finish this one on the feet.  Expect this to be decided in the wrestling exchanges, where the two should be very easily match.  Whoever decides where this fight takes places is probably looking at the W.

Andrea Carnevale (4-3) Vs Filip Rumia (2-3)

It's a similar story in our co-main event, as a talented boxer meets a skilled submission artist, the wrinkle here being the absolute tear that Carnevale has been on.  With three first round knockout victories under his belt since an unsuccessful title shot, Andrea is really showing everyone he's both willing and able to put himself back in title contention and with the belt on the line later tonight he could very well set himself up with a match against the winner.  But don't count out Rumia, who looked much improved in his last outing, where he totally dominated his opponent for three rounds with a well thought out game plan and diverse pattern of attack.  Filip is a rare example of an intelligent fighter, capable of making on the fly adjustments which can cause his opponents real problems.

Taj Yaya (6-0) Vs Borthol "Panzerschreck" Grynworst (5-0)

This is it, the big one.  But first a celebration of our champion.  All good things must come to an end and indeed Yaya's reign as out title holder has gone well beyond being simply "good".  With a perfect record of 5 title fights, 5 finishes and buckets of blood spilt along the way, Yaya is going to go down in AMSFC history as our first Welterweight champion and will no doubt be one of the best.  Win lose or draw tonight is Yaya's last with the company and we'll wish him well where ever it is he choose to ply his trade.  But before all that, he's got a fight on his hands.  Both these men are undefeated, both have been knocking people out for fun and both have very credible ways of winning this fight.  Yaya's title run has been built on his stellar use of the clinch, both as a deadly offensive weapon and as a deterrent to the takedown; if you want to grab a hold of this guy then you best expect to bleed.  But it's exactly this tight, phone booth range in which the Panzerschreck excels, with a set of dirty boxing and pressure wrestling to go along with big power he's able to generate in short spaces.  All that being said, I still give Yaya the edge in the clinch, but Grynworst might be the first guy he's faced who's not scared to put himself in a position to get the takedown, a place Yaya doesn't want to be.  Expect a great fight as we send off a fine champion and possibly usher in a new era of the WW division.

That's all folks.

Keep your feedback or requests coming and if you've got a fighter looking for a contract in Amsterdam don't hesitate to ask here.  Stay tuned for updates about a potential Org Gym coming, or let me know if you'd be interested in that sort of thing.
