UPF-M 20: Satanae vs Ruggiero (PREVIEW)

Event Preview: UPF-M 20: Satanae vs Ruggiero

UPF-M 20: Satanae vs Ruggiero is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by Ultimate Pit Fighting - Montreal on October 26, 2013 at Hayashi's Lounge in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Background

Undefeated heavyweight champion Tigellinus Satanae will defend his belt from light-heavyweight's number one contender, Vinny Ruggiero.

Tigellinus Satanae batters opponents with brutal knees from the clinch. That is his singular focus in every fight and thus far nobody has been able to stop it. For the first time in his career he will be facing an opponent with a similar fighting style; Vinny Ruggiero is a Muay Thai stylist as well that also loves to throw knees against the fence.

Unfortunately, several managers just refuse to sign fight offers or they go idle unexpectedly so this event will only have eight fights. Thanks guys!

Official Fight Card

-[Heavyweight Championship bout]: Tigellinus Satanae(c) (8-0) (3-0 UPF) versus Vinny Ruggerio(1 LHW) (6-4) (1-0 UPF)

-[Preview]: Tigellinus is the reigning heavyweight champion. His Muay Thai clinch is feared across the division as he has stopped three straight opponents to cap off a perfect 8-0 career. What we may be seeing is an instance where the champion is just too good for his division.

Vinny Ruggiero believes that his Muay Thai is more than enough to handle the brutal champion. Vinny decimated Lews Therin Telamon in his light-heavyweight debut, securing him a precarious position on the rankings. He wasn't being given the next light-heavyweight title shot but was likely next in line for the gold. Meanwhile, no heavyweights were willing to face Tigellinus Satanae due to his brutal finishes of Sean Coleman and Gleison Maldonado. Nobody was eager to face that challenge. Nobody except Vinny Ruggiero. Vinny stated to me that his Muay Thai may actually be superior to that of the heavyweight champion and that he believes he can win the title. If he does, it would be his second world title as he won the RFC heavyweight title and defended it successfully.

Height: 6'6

Notable Wins: Lews Therin Telamon (205 lbs)

-[Heavyweight bout]: Ivan Vanko(2) (8-6) (2-0 UPF) vs Ryan Starner(4) (6-2) (2-0 UPF)

-[Preview]: Both Ivan Vanko and Ryan Starner are coming into this fight on an impressive wave of momentum. Both guys have won two consecutive fights before this meeting and the winner could very likely face the heavyweight champion next. Ivan Vanko is a Brazilian Jujitsu brown belt that uses excellent ground and pound and submissions to defeat opponents. Ryan Starner is a boxer that has serious knockout power in his hands. Interesting to note is that both of these guys share common UPF opponents in Siyar Buhardazada and Trygve Bondevik; both of them scored first round finishes against these common foes.

-[Lightweight bout]: Chad Mendes(n/a) (6-3) (0-0 UPF) vs Maurice LeDuc(n/a) (0-1) (0-0 UPF)

-[Preview]: Chad Mendes is the former GFC featherweight champion with three successful title defenses under his proverbial and perhaps literal belt. Mendes also made to the finals in the TWGC Brazilian grappling competition. He will face fellow division newcomer and wrestler Maurice DeLuc as they both attempt to make a strong first impression.

-[Lightweight bout]: Zeus Jupiter(3) (3-1) (1-0 UPF) vs Dark Hunter(n/a) (2-0) (0-0 UPF)

-[Preview]: Zeus Jupiter is an exciting addition to the UPF-M lightweight division. In his early fights he won exclusively via submission. However, in his UPF debut his powerful hands were on full display. Dark Hunter is a boxer that made the transition to mixed martial arts and has scored back-to-back knockouts within the first round. Despite having very little to offer in the wrestling department, Hunter knocked out a strong wrestler in his professional debut.

-[Middleweight bout]: Rupert Psmith(n/a) (1-0) (0-0 UPF) vs Biggie Shackleton(8) (3-2) (2-1 UPF)

-[Preview]: Division newcomer Rupert Psmith will face UPF vet Biggie Shackleton to start off the main card. Rupert uses his boxing and his wrestling to put constant pressure on opponents whereas Biggie almost exclusively uses his wrestling and ground and pound.

The Prelims

-[Lightweight bout]: Sean Money(n/a) (1-0) (1-0 UPF) vs Clinton Jr Solidum(n/a) (0-0) (0-0 UPF)

-[Heavyweight bout]: Arne Kjolby(n/a) (1-1) (0-0 UPF) vs Isakie Takeru(n/a) (0-2) (0-0 UPF)

-[Lightweight bout]: Wallace Hoover(n/a) (0-1) (0-0 UPF) vs Humberto Cabrera(7) (0-2) (0-1 UPF)
