UPF-M 22: Stevenson vs Cauthon was a mixed martial arts event held by Ultimate Pit Fighting – Montreal on November 10, 2013 at Hayashi's Lounge in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

[The Action]

-[Heavyweight bout]: Sam Wilcon (2-3) vs Miguel Foster (0-1)

-[Outcome]: Sam Wilcon dominated this fight using his offensive wrestling to smother the Jujitsu practitioner. Miguel Foster was simply unable to mount any serious offense in this fight and seemed flabbergasted. Sam Wilcon def. Miguel Foster via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

-[Welterweight bout]: Urban Fox (1-1) vs Max Lacroix (0-0)

-[Outcome]: After managing to become the first man to be defeated by James Dove (30-27 no less), Urban Fox returns true to form in a close out defeat to Max Lacroix. Fox seemed to do alright in the clinch but he just couldn't stay on his feet and out of danger. Max Lacroix rocked Fox with strikes, he took him down and locked in the fight ending submission. Max Lacroix def. Urban Fox via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 2:36 of round 2.

-[Speech]: Max Lacroix thanked his fans.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Ben Breeze (1-2) vs Damian Grabowski (2-4-1)

-[Outcome]: The story of this fight was the takedowns and ground and pound of Ben Breeze. Damian had no way to escape. Easy win for Breeze. Ben Breeze def. Damian Grabowski via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-26, 30-26).

-[Middleweight bout]: Anthony Becerra (2-3) vs Sylvia Silva (4-4)

-[Outcome]: Anthony Becerra did what he does best: he took the opposition to the ground to set up devastating ground strikes from above. However, in this instance, his plan was foiled by a quick submission by the new and improved Sylvia Silva. Sylvia has been on a tear recently, winning three of his last five fights. Sylvia Silva def. Anthony Becerra via Submission (Armbar) at 0:24 of round 1.

-[Speech]: Sylvia Silva thanked his fans.

-[Lightweight bout]: Dark Hunter (3-0) vs Greg Giraldo (4-3)

-[Outcome]: This fight turned out to be quite a war for both men. Dark Hunter surprised me by opting to clinch with the wrestler, Giraldo, where the fight turned into a grueling dirty boxing contest. Out of the clinch, however, Dark Hunter absolutely dominated Giraldo with his boxing. Dark Hunter def. Greg Giraldo via KO (Strikes) at 2:10 of round 3.

-[Welterweight bout]: Nando De Leeuw (4-2) vs Bradly Danielson (8-9)

-[Outcome]: Nando De Leeuw came out super aggressive and met Danielson in the center of the cage. This proved to be folly as Danielson packs a helluva punch and made short work of De Leeuw on the feet. Welcome to the welterweight rankings, Bradly Danielson! Bradly Danielson def. Nando De Leeuw via TKO (Strikes) at 1:25 of round 1.

-[Speech]: Bradly Danielson vowed to do even better in his next outing.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Mickey Wilson (4-0) vs Felix Cena (5-3)

-[Outcome]: The first round of this fight was clearly dominated by the wrestling prowess of Mickey Wilson. He nailed a beautiful double leg into the guard of Felix Cena who is no slouch himself. From there he tagged Cena with ample ground and pound to dominate the round. The second frame appeared to be going the same direction: Wilson nailed a takedown and started working for position. However, with little to no action happening on the ground, the referee stood the fighters up... Felix Cena knew that he was down by nearly a round and a half so he picked up the pace and wrecked- and I do mean wrecked Mickey Wilson with a flurry of punches. If Cena can fight that well in the clinch, we may have a serious threat in the heavyweight division. Felix Cena def. Mickey Wilson via KO (Punch) at 1:53 of round 2.

-[Speeches]: After the fight, Felix Cena played to the crowd and got a huge reaction from them. A disappointed Mickey Wilson simply said “Poop” for his interview. What a poet!

-[Welterweight bout]: Nyrkilla Tapettava (6-2) vs Henry Jones (7-3)

-[Outcome]: After missing nearly half a dozen takedowns, Tapettava landed one and went to work promptly with his ground and pound. Henry Jones was a fish out of water underneath the power wrestler and soon fell victim to the patented ground and pound that felled so many others. Nyrkilla Tapettava def. Henry Jones via TKO (Strikes) at 3:30 of round 1.

-[Welterweight bout]: Ronald Rousey(fc) (7-2) vs Kaz Yago (7-5)

-[Outcome]: This fight was all Kaz Yago from the first round to the fifth. He rocked Rousey with hard punches in the opening frame and clearly stole the round with it. Kaz Yago controlled Rousey on the ground with his excellent defensive Jujitsu and did enough in the eyes of two judges to win the fight. One judge disagreed and said that Rousey won the final three rounds with his top control. Kaz Yago def. Ronald Rousey via Majority Decision (48-48, 50-45, 50-45).

-[Speech]: The defeated Ronald Rousey had this to say: 'My hat's off to my opponent. He fought a great fight and won fair and square. I'm glad we were able to put on an exciting fight for you fans. Give it up, people!'.

-[Welterweight Championship bout]: Bear Stevenson(c) (8-1-1) vs Matrim Cauthon (9-3)

-[Outcome]:

Round One: The strategy of the defending champion seemed to be a clinch-and-break strategy to stay unpredictable. The goal was obviously to stay off of the ground with the dangerous challenger. A feat that would prove difficult as Matrim managed to log in a takedown late in the round.

Round Two: The second round was more even with both fighters landing strikes. Matrim Cauthon took the fight to the ground much earlier this time and landed plenty of ground and pound to soften the champion up.

Round Three: Again Matrim got the takedown early and dominated the champion on the ground. Stevenson managed to escape back to his feet but it was too little too late to steal back this round.

Round Four: Heading into the championship rounds it became clear that the champion needed to do something drastic to win the final two rounds. Instead he fell right into the takedown of the challenger and received more ground and pound for his troubles. This round had less action but it still appeared to tilt towards Cauthon who should be ahead 3-1 on any decent judge's scorecards.

Round Five: With the champion needing a finish to ensure his victory, the fighters squared off in the middle of the cage and Stevenson really did everything in his power to keep the fight standing. He went for broke in the final minutes of the fight and rocked the challenger before finishing him with a hail mary flurry of blows that rendered the challenger down for the proverbial count.

Bear Stevenson def. Matrim Cauthon via TKO (Strikes) at 4:29 of round 5 in a come from behind victory to retain the undisputed welterweight championship of the world!

-[Speech]: The relieved champion thanked his sponsor, Ultimate Fighting Fuel, for their support.

[OUTCOME]

First of all I want to point out that Matrim Cauthon out gunned Bear Stevenson on the feet landing 50 strikes (all kicks) compared to the 34 punches and kicks. If you include the clinch, you add another 7 for Stevenson. Cauthon also landed four takedowns by the end of the fight.

Barring the finish, this was the best performance that we've seen from Cauthon thus far. He was a few minutes away from becoming the new champion but Stevenson turned up the heat at the end and retained his belt.

Knockout of the Night goes to Dark Hunter.

Submission of the Night goes to Sylvia Silva.

Fight of the Night (of course) goes to Bear Stevenson and Matrim Cauthon. They just beat out Yago/Rousey.

Put it all together, what does it mean?

Well it means that lightweight clearly has a new contender in Dark Hunter who is coming off four straight knockout victories. Welterweight will likely see Stevenson vs Yago, an interesting stylistic match-up. Heavyweight has an interesting new contender in Felix Cena.
