Heroic 122 preview

Event Preview: Heroic 122 Champs
HEROIC
2013-11-24, London, Wombley Arena
Author:

HELLO! I’m “Sunshine” Weston Markson, and this is my partner Rudy “The Box” Knife, we are here in the Heroic studio to discuss Heroic 122.  Heroic 122 is set to take place in London’s Wombley Arena where over 93,000 fans are expected to attend and thousands more watching live at home on PPV to see the three Heroic Champions fight.

Rudy: Well Weston this is going to be a huge night, we have a great super fight with Heroic’s P4P 2nd ranked fighter and middleweight champion, and two other champions will defend their titles.  I am really excited for this event which could very well turn out to be one of Heroic’s best to date.  I guess we will find out when we get into the action Sunday!

MAIN EVENT

Ricardo "The Next Generation" Gracie (20-4-1)  v  #C/1 P4P #2 "The Sterilizer" Jean Pierre Babin (22-5)

Weston:  The main event for Heroic 122, a middleweight showdown and super fight between Ascension’s welterweight champion and Heroic’s middleweight champion.  This is a huge fight between two fighters ranked in the top 60 pound for pound worldwide.  Both of these fighters are on a 4 fight win streak, both are champions, and now we will find out which fighter is better.

Rudy:  This is a big fight a cross promotion super fight. Ricardo Gracie invades Heroic to test his chin against Jean Pierre Babin.  You know this is a really close and even fight but honestly im a little afraid for Heroic’s champion.  3 of JPB’s 5 losses have come by submission, Gracie lands 46% of his takedowns averaging over 2 takedowns per fight.  He also is very good with submissions and Ground and pound, with 5 submission wins to his record.  Expect Gracie to come out try to avoid the elite striking game of JPB and get the fight to the ground where he will try to take the victory.  For JPB I think we have seen it time and time again and know what to expect, he will come out take the fight to Gracie work to land his strikes and score the (T)KO.  Combined these two fighters win over 70% of their fights by a finish, whether it be TKO or submission.   Im interested in this fight it has big implications for both of these guys the winner is going to make a huge jump into superstardom so which fighter is it going to be?

Prediction:  I gotta go with JPB to put the first (T)KO on Gracie.

CO-MAIN EVENT

#1/C- P4P #4 “Boran” Muay Thai (27-11) v  #2 P4P #5 Gun Slinga  (18-8) 265 lbs title

Weston:  The CO-MAIN EVENT is a heavyweight clash between champion Muay Thai and Gun Slinga.  Glinga is a great story a fighter who came close to earning a title shot on several different occasion’s only to lose just the contender bouts, the crazy thing is every time he lost the guy he lost to went on to win the title!  Well finally Slinga made another run to the top of the division and this time around he got over the hump winning the #1 contenders bout and getting a rematch against Muay Thai who beat him in one of the number one contender bouts 6 months ago.  I think Slinga might be an underdog coming into this fight but you know what this has been the year of the underdog in Heroic with several fighters who not many thought would make runs to the top becoming champions could Slinga be the icing on the cake to a year of underdogs?  Not if Muay Thai has anything to say about it.  Thai is now the two time champion and you have to know the Heroic Hall of Fame is calling his name.  Thai is the 37th p4p fighter in all of the world, and the 8th ranked Heavyweight worldwide.  Thai has won 7 out of his last 10 fights and Sunday he has the chance to run his streak to 3 straight and cement a spot in the Hall of Fame if he hasn’t already done so.

Rudy:  What a tense fight this will be you may as well sit on the edge of your seat because this is going to be one of those fights where you don’t know what is about to happen and the fight could end in the blink of an eye.  Combined these two finish 80% of their wins, and Interesting to note that neither fighter has ever lost a decision and they have only went to the judges scorecards a combined 9 times out of 62 fights! WOW!  Now if you ask me how this fight plays out I think its simple expect a slugfest, these two will test each others chins until one fails.  I think Thai is the more accurate striker landing 66% of head punches and 63% of leg kicks, although Slinga is not far behind in total accuracy.  Slinga had an advantage in the clinch in my opinion, he averages over 17 strikes per fight in the clinch where as Thai only averages about 1 strike total.  This is going to be a great fight!

Prediction:  Thai by decision.

MAIN CARD

#3 Kirk Laputa (22-6)  v  #8 Leonardo "Wrathchild" Ferreira (14-4)

Weston:  The last fight on the main card is a heavyweight battle between two ranked heavyweights.  Leonardo Ferreira was last seen in Heroic earlier this month when he made his debut in a dominant performance that saw him ear a decision victory 30-25.  This was the first time in Heroic that we saw such a dominant performance form anyone let alone a debuting fighter.  After the fight “Wrathchild” fell under some criticism, for not finishing a fight he dominated and rocked his opponent in more than once.  Although some felt he played it safe others were quick to point out how dominate he was fact is Ferreira is an amazing talent that we can expect big things from for a long time to come if he can beat Laputa he could jump to the top of the division and find himself contending for a title soon.  Kirk Laputa last trip to Heroic’s cage was in almost a month ago it saw him losing his recently captured title and snapping his 8 fight winning streak.    If Laputa wins this fight he will be right back in the mix for another shot at the title currently held by Muay Thai.

Rudy:  What the hell is wrong with you Weston, Leonardo “Wrathchild” as im going to call him didn’t need to finish his first fight he played with his opponent like you play with yourself.  He was dominant its almost better than finishing him he punished his opponent like no one in Heroic has ever done, it sent a statement to the entire heavyweight division that he is a force! Leonardo “Wrathchild” is one of the most accurate strikers I have ever seen averaging over 85% success rate in head punches and over 80% in leg kicks.  He also lands 70% of body kicks and over 60% of punches to the body.  The one area he is untested in is the clinch.  Laputa’s strongest aspect of his game is the clinch Laputa destroys opponents in the clinch with knees, elbows, and dirty boxing.  This is going to be an interesting fight that will see if Laputa has what it takes to overcome adversity and get back on the path towards the title, and if Leonardo “wrathchild” is ready for the big time.

Prediction:  Laputa by decision

#4 Fedor "Cannon" Vladimirov  (18-6) v  #5 Marko "The Ukrainian Zombie" Kersikov (10-0)

Weston:  The next fight on the main card is another heavyweight clash when 4th ranked Fedor Vladimirov takes on 5thranked Marko Kersikov.  This is a huge fight with some title implications Fedor is a 3 time Heroic heavyweight champion and again  I know the one thing he covets more than anything is getting that title back and finally defending it successfully, an impressive win over the undefeated Marko Kersikov could help him earn another chance.  For the young Kersikov this is a huge step up he is fighting one of the greatest if not the greatest Heroic heavyweights of all time, if he wins like he has done in all of his previous fights we could be seeing the new face of Heroic’s heavyweight division.

Rudy:  This could be a main event well actually all of these fights could but what a great fight between two amazing heavyweights.  We have the young up and coming Marko “The Ukrainian Zombie” Kersikov against the 3 time heavyweight champ and veteran Fedor “Cannon Vladimirov.  One thing is for sure these two guys are KNOCKOUT artists.  16 of Fedor’s 18 wins have been by (T)KO or 89% For Kersikov 9 out of his 10 wins have been by (T)KO or 90%.  What’s even more impressive about these two elite strikers is they are both very accurate landing in the upper 60%s to low 70%s.  I think one thing that could decide this fight is the clinch which Kersikov has shown a very good clinch game and Fedor hasn’t shown much of one yet.  Could Kersikov be the first to defeat Fedor in a non-title fight? Or will Fedor continue winning and earn his way back towards a title shot?

Prediction:  Tough fight to call but I think Kersikov might take this one a bit of an underdog but I think he pulls it out.

#1/C P4P #6 Mike Hunt (20-13) v  #2 P4P #7 “GO” Phukyorselvf Uzannavabizch (27-6-1)                 205 lbs title

Weston:  The next fight on the main card is the first title fight of the evening when the improbable champion Mike Hunt takes on the man he took the title from “PU”.  It wasn’t long ago Hunt was considering retirement, down in the sorrows and suffering a close loss he was unsure if he should continue fighting.  Several months later and Hunt is having the most success of his career having won Heroic’s LHW title.  This fight is the 3rd fight between the two under the Heroic banner, they split the first two fights with one win apiece and now we get the rubber match! Defending his title for the first time Hunt rides into this fight on a 5 fight win streak, while PU just had his 5 fight win streak snapped by Hunt.  Im sure It would be sweet revenge for PU if he can do the same and regain his title.

Rudy:  I am really excited for this fight, these two have proven they can be very entertaining with their clashing styles.  PU the striker and Hunt the wrestler.  The last two times these fighters fought Mike Hunt came in as an underdog, this time around he may very well be coming in as the favorite.   Its his elite wrestling that allows him to ground his opponents with 60% takedown accuracy, that’s a huge number its very very rare to see someone dominate the wrestling game like Hunt has done.  For PU its his versatile striking game that poses a threat to Hunt, if PU can keep the fight standing he will work his striking from a distance and from the clinch to control and wear down Hunt while seeking the KO.  Last time these two met I predicted an upset this time im sticking with the same winner.

Prediction Hunt by decision.

#4 Naru "Käsi" Jarkko (25-12) v  #3 P4P #9 Kenny Floor Jan (27-10)

Weston:  The first fight on the main card is a lightweight fight between 4th ranked Naru Jarkko and 3rd ranked Kenny Floor Jan.  Both Floor Jan and Jarkko are on the verge of getting title opportunities, I know both lost to the champion by majority decision, and for Floor Jan a second time by unanimous decision but I know both of these fighters want that chance to be the first to beat the P4P best fighter in Heroic.  To do so one of these two will have to stand out from the rest of the lightweight division.

Rudy:  What a huge fight to kick off the evening seriously two top 5 lightweights doing battle!  You know this isn’t the first time these two have met in Heroic, its been a while since we have seen them fight but the first fight between these two went exactly how I expect this one to go, both fighters will stand long enough to set up a takedown, get the fight to the ground and work their ground game.   I think like the first fight this will be back and forth both standing and on the ground one thing that I expect to be different is I think both guys will work harder to finish the other so the fight doesn’t go to judges decision.  Im prediction FOTN right here!

Prediction FOTN! And Jarkko gets revenge wins a decision.
