From Panama to Rio

Fighter profile of Luis Moreno by

Born and raised in Panama City, the young Moreno always had interest in sports. Coming from humble beginnings,as his father was nothing more than a simple fisher and his mother a weaver,Moreno had to make himself useful. He helped his father selling his catch, standing in the streets and yelling at people to buy some fishes.

He learned Freestyle-Wrestling in school and soon began to win national titles. When he was 17,he decided to start a career as Mixed Martial Artist upon watching some tapes of early Vale Tudo fights. He wasnīt good enough to win International titles in Wrestling,so he had no other choice as to pursue a career as fighter. He heard that the people in Brazil loved the sport they called "Vale Tudo" and that his only chance to train properly was down there. So he went on a roadtrip which lead him to the beautiful of Rio.His first four weeks he spent searching for cheap Gyms which would take care of an young, eager man.But there were not dozens of gyms as they said at home.So he lived for months in the Favelas, doing dirty work and living from the hand to the mouth.

But the fortune was good to him.He heard of an old Boxer,a Champion and Trainer, searching for young Talent. So Moreno decided to introduce himself to the old man,who should become his Trainer and Manager. In a sticky and humid Gym the both of them met each other.Mauricio Dugal, hailing from Togo, himself a poor man, listened to the young man from Panama and accepted him as his trainee.Since then,Mauricio stood Luis by, in times he lost and in times he won.His concern now is the future of the young man,who seems to fall into the trap which took the motivation and ambition of so many fighters.

Thousand Guys like him exist.Young fighters, who are on their way to the top, some successful, others failing. Some reach the upper echelon, the Pantheon of the MMA World, while some end up in the lower ranks, nothing more than Gatekeepers, damned to a live as underachievers and feeders.

Luis "Black Eagle" Moreno is on the verge of becoming a gatekeeper,an underachiever, one of the many who failed on the long road of reaching stardom. He sports an unimpressive resume of 6 wins and 4 losses, some of these losses came in brutal fashion.First, his career seemed to deliver greatness, with a 3 fight winning streak. With his last win he even earned an title, his confidence was on an all-time high, everything went the right way.His fights were decided in brute ways,as he picked his foe up and slammed them to the ground, where he crushed them with Ground and Pound and brutal Elbows. Then he had his first title defense, the 21 years old Moreno confident as ever, some may even say he got cocky. It was a gruesome beatdown for the young Prospect,as he got beaten and battered by an seasoned veteran. Multiple cuts opened, his eyes swell shut and when he got into the fifth round he was unable to stand proper.Seconds later he lost via TKO,his first professional Loss.A cruel Loss, few say he isnīt the same since.

He went on to fight again, lost some fights, won some fights and now is on the junction of his young career. He can regain his motivation of the past,of the young "Black Eagle" who just went out and destroyed his opponents, or he can follow his current path, which leads to oblivion.
