Event Preview: HEROIC 125 Hunt v Seia
HEROIC
2013-12-14, London, Wombley Arena
Author:

Herro evrrybody im “Sunshine” Weston Markson along with my partna Rudy “The Box” Knife we are in the Heroic studio once again to talk about another much anticipated Heroic event.  Heroic 125 comes to you live on PPV from Wombley Arena in London we expecting a great night of fights with the majority of the fights taking place in the light-heavyweight division as the light-heavyweights take center stage to show us what they have.

Rudy:  YES! YES! YES! Im excited bro! The ultimate underdog Mike Hunt is back in action defending his title against Heroic newcomer Tolo Seia.  There are some other really great fights that will keep fighters rising in their divisions and eliminate others from title opportunities.  We expect 93,000+ fans to watch this at the arena and hundreds of thousands more at home, but enough hype lets get into the actual bouts!

MAIN EVENT

#1/C Mike Hunt                (21-13) v  #2 Tolo Seia (25-7)       205 lbs title

Weston:  The main event of Heroic 125 is a light-heavyweight title fight between champion and ultimate underdog Mike Hunt, and newcomer Tolo Seia.  This fight is brought to you by The Big Kabosh its going to be a wonderful fight, the champion comes into this fight on an improbable 6 fight win streak that saw him go from contemplating retirement to becoming the best LHW in the world today, and the Heroic champion!  This is his second title defense  a win could take Hunt and make him a living legend, can Hunt continue his improbable run when he takes on newcomer Tolo Seia.  Seia isn’t a newcomer to MMA but to Heroic he is.  Its not often that a fighter walks through the door and is handed an opportunity at a championship, but Seia is riding a 10 fight win streak and was the champion of another top level orginzation when that org became defunct Tolo signed the dotted line to join Heroic, since he was the reining champion and one of the top LHW’s in the world Heroic management decided his first test should be against the champion.  Will Seia’s first test prove to be to tough or will he knock the ultimate underdog off his mountain top?

Rudy:  Tolo Seia is getting the chance to do what only a few others have done, earn a title in their first Heroic fight, this guy has a ton of hype and expectations and im interested in seeing if he can live up to them in a premier organization.  This guy is a killer he has only been to decision 5 times in his career, and won 86% of his fights by knockout.  Seia is a very accurate striker landing over 70% in his two most used strikes.  He also likes working in the clinch and lands nearly 70% of his punches to the head from clinch range.  I expect Seia to keep his distance though going into the clinch with Hunt may not be a good idea because Hunt wants to close the distance and get the fight to the ground.  If Hunt has an advantage in this fight is his superior ground game, both in wrestling and BJJ.  If Hunt can take this fight to the ground he will look to use his GNP which is vicious.  Hunt has won 12 fights by TKO, Hunt’s takedown success is 60% which is absolutely ridicules that a fighter can take someone down with that kind of success at such a high level of competition, because of this we can expect Hunt to get at least one takedown in the fight the question is will he be able to keep Seia on the ground long enough and often enough to inflict damage.

Prediction:  This one is quite simple if Hunt gets the takedowns he wins, if Seia is able to keep the fight standing he wins.  I think Hunt continues his amazing run.  Seia rebounds early next year and wins a rematch.

CO-MAIN EVENT

 #6 Zoran Miloshevich (23-12) v  #5  Noel "The Duke" Smith (26-12)

Weston:  The CO-MAIN event will feature more Light-heavyweight action when Zoran Miloshevich the 6th ranked LHW, takes on 5th ranked Noel Smith in a battle for positioning amongst the best in the division.  In July these two fighters were young into their Heroic careers when they were pitted against each other in a fight to see who could become the divisions next star and contender, Smith won that bout and went on to earn a title shot now both men are once again on the verge of title contention for Zoran he hopes for sweet retribution by doing to Smith the very thing he had done to him, knocking him out of title contention literally.  For Smith he wants a repeat of the previous fight and a chance to fight for the title once again, both fighters could be a short two-three wins away so this is a huge fight.  Who takes this much anticipated rematch?

Rudy:  I have the answer to that question.  Last time these two elite Light-Heavyweights met Smith was the aggressor in all aspects, he took the fight to Zoran both standing and on the ground.  A lot of people were surprised because Zoran has the better BJJ, I expect Smith to look to do the same this fight, he is landing 35% of his takedowns from standing range, and 26% from the clinch.  Zoran rarely attempts a takedown so I don’t expect him to look for the takedown, instead I think he will keep the fight standing, and work on getting in close to use his clinch game.  I think this time around its going to be a much closer fight but then again so does Weston so that’s probably incorrect!

Prediction:  Zoran round two KO.

MAIN CARD

#6 Doc Holliday (23-13-1) v  #4 Frank "Fast Hands" Reynolds (19-6-3)

Weston:  Last month fight fans thought they were well on their way to a treat two lightweight contenders matched up so well it should be a great fight everyone was saying…..WELL THEY WERE RIGHT! It was a good fight when 6th ranked Doc Holliday took on 4th ranked Frank Reynolds in a back and forth fight that ended in a disappointing draw.  The controversy was stirring after the fight with some people saying Doc Holliday was gifted a draw, his own manager critical of his fighter said he was unsure of the outcome, but then a lot of fans were saying how could anyone rule the fight for Frank Reynolds I personally thought Holliday won, I know Rudy thought Reynolds won, you see much like the judges no one could seem to pick a consensus winner.  Until now we are going to do this thing again and this time we will hopefully see one of these men come out victorious and advance in ranking hopefully earning a title host in the near future.

Rudy:  Can I just say the same thing less than a month ago?  No? OK well then as Weston has already said the last time these two met we saw a rare draw things were left unsettled so its time to settle them, I think both of these guys are going to come out with more fire then the last fight to avoid the judges scorecards.  The last fight saw Holliday dominate the ground game, taking Reynolds down at will almost landing 3 out of 4 takedowns from striking  distance, where Holliday may have went wrong was being a little too timid on the ground once the fight was there, I think this time if he gets the fight to the ground he will go all out to finish the fight.  On the other side Frank Reynolds was the better fighter in the clinch, he landed more strikes and stopped all of Holliday’s takedowns.   If he can continue that success this time around he will be well on his way to victory.  I think this fight was decided last time in the standup from striking range category,  With neither man getting the advantage over the other here and both holding down other areas of MMA the fight was a draw.  That won’t happen this time, I expect both fighters will look early and often for every opportunity to end the fight.

Prediction:  I think Holliday takes it this time around with his wrestling.

#10 Fedor “Sambist” Alexandrov (21-9)  v  Wilfredo "May May" Cacho (11-6)

Weston:  The next fight on the main card is another light-heavyweight fight between former champion and Hall of famer 10th ranked Fedor Alexandrov, and Wilfredo Cacho.  A lot is on the line in this fight but mostly a spot in the top 10 for the winner, and for the loser a spot just outside, for Fedor that would be the first time since joining Heroic that the former champion would be ranked outside the top 10.  Both of these fighters come into this fight on a two fight losing streak so they are both in desperate need of a win for Cacho it would be his first in Heroic.  One thing I love about both of these fighters is that the fans love to watch them fight they are both ultra popular, infact at one point Fedor was the most popular Light-heavyweight in the world.

Rudy:  What we have here folks is a classic matchup between the striker “May May” and the grappler “Sambist”  Fedor may be the best mat technician in Heroic, and if Fedor can get Cacho to the ground I don’t think its going to be a long day at all, I believe he would use his elite GNP and Submissions to pick up the win with a near 40% takedown success rate Cacho will have to work fast and hope when he does get taken down he can get back up or the round is close to over.  On the flip side if Cacho can keep the fight standing he wins this fight.  Cacho has world class boxing and muay thai, he lands in the low 60% and high 50%s of every strike but he doesn’t need many strikes to finish a fight, Cacho and Fedor are both killers, only 1 time between the two of them have they won by decision.  I believe both men will do what they do come out aggressive and try to get out as quickly as possible.

Prediction:  I think I have to go with Fedor

#7 Aaron “Evolution" Edwards (14-5)  v #9 "The White Wolf" Geralt Of Ravia (19-8)

Weston:  The first fight on the main card is a fight between ranked lightweights Aaron Edwards who comes into this fight in the 7th position, and Geralt of Ravia who sits ranked 9th.  Edwards a mainstay in Heroic’s Light-heavyweight division comes into this fight 8-3 overall in Heroic, with two of those losses coming a the hands of Nate Barnes a former champion.  Edwards has won two straight fights and could very well be on his way to becoming a legit title contender.  Ravia was once the #1 contender but he opted out of taking a title shot and instead went to compete in a competition, sine his return he is 1 and 1, but as Ravia has proven before he has the skills to make it to the top, with a win over Edwards he could be back on his way up the LHW ladder.

Rudy:  Believe it or not this is the fight im most looking forward to, you have to guys who have been around in Heroic for a while, two guys who I would love to see make a run towards the title, and one of these men should be able to start that run with a win.  Im excited to see which one it is going to be.  You know this is going to be a hell of a scrap I think its going to stay standing for the most part, we may see Ravia try to mix it up a little and shoot in for a takedown but I don’t think he will much.  Neither of these guys are particuarlly accurate strikers, they both land in the 50% range or lower with the exception of Edwards leg kicks.  I think this fight is decided by Edwards kicks or Ravia’s clinch which ever fighter gets the better of each other there takes this fight.

Prediction:  I think Edwards breaks through here.
