Heroic 128 preview

Event Preview: HEROIC 128 Slinga v Rua
HEROIC
2014-01-03, London, Wombley Arena
Author:

Hello everybody its me again “Sunshine” Weston Markson, you all know my partner Rudy “The Box” Knife.  We are in the Heroic studio ready to discuss Friday’s event in brought to you by The Big Kabosh live from the Wombley Arena in London.  Heroic 128 is expected to see in excess of 93,000 screaming fans at the arena and hundreds of thousands more watching at home!  Its going to be a big night with a lot of great fights from ranked fighters, every fighter on this main card is ranked in their division so get ready for some great action.

Rudy:  You know Weston a lot of these fights are title eliminator if not #1 contender bouts.  I am very interested in seeing how these fights shape up, the night will be dominated by Light Heavyweights, with 6 out of the 10 fights taking place in this division, when its all said and done we are going to see some things shaken up in all of the divisions but a major makeover could come in the Light-heavyweight division.

MAIN EVENT

#4 Gun Slinga (19-9)  v  #5 "Shogün" Lyoto Rua (30-8)

Weston:  The main event of Heroic 128 is a massive heavyweight bout that will most likely put the winner of the fight one win away from a title shot.  Gun Slinga has had that opportunity before and is hell bent on getting back there, with a win he will most likely be matched up against the man he fought for that title in Muy Thai who recently lost the title.  I know Slinga is out for revenge but he cant look past Lyoto Rua.  Rua came into Heroic with everyone touting him as a title contender right off the bat.  Unfortunately for Rua he lost his first two fights, since then he has won 3 straight fights and is reemerging as one of the divisions brightest stars with wins over former title challengers, and in his last fight a win over the former 3 time Heavyweight champion it appears as Rua is ready to live up to the expectations of the fans and pundits.

Rudy:  This is a really great fight that could end at any second both of these heavyweights have one punch KO power.  Rya has finished 21 of his wins by (T)KO for 70%!  Slinga has finished 16 of his wins by (T)KO for a staggering 85%!.  Weston you touched on the turn around for Rua, I think the biggest reason for his turnaround is his rededication to the ground game, its been his takedowns and ground and pound that have really opened up his status as a contender again.  He is landing 40% of his takedowns which is a huge number I think we will see Rua look to exchange with Slinga standing draw him into a small brawl and then score a takedown from the aggression of Slinga.  Slinga we all know what he is going to do, Slinga is going to come out throwing every strike he can and seek the early knockout.  Get ready for this one its going to be an edge sitter, nail bitter, we are gonna see a lot of nervous fans as they route on their favorite to win and take one step closer to title challenger.

Prediction:  Gun Slinga by TKO

CO-MAIN EVENT

#3 Tolo Seia (25-8)  v  #4 "The Lucid Nightmare" Kuma Nelson(18-2)

Weston:  In the CO-MAIN EVENT the Light-Heavyweights take center stage when 3rd ranked Tolo Seia takes on 4th ranked Kuma Nelson.    The winner of this fight will most likely take on new champion Ryo Narushima in a title fight so a lot is on the line here, the loser will most likely get a test against former champion Mike Hunt.  With a lot on the line and both fighters having had a title shot in Heroic I expect one of the best fights of the night in this one both men have to realize a title shot doesn’t come often and with both having fought for the title before im expecting an all out war.

Rudy:  Me too I think this is going to be an absolute war.  This is Kuma Nelson’s biggest test to date, even surpassing his previous title shot because Seia has been a great fighter this will act as an opportunity to see if Nelson can get back and stay as a title contender for a long time to come.    Im thinking this turns out to be FOTN my early favorite at least.  Both of these men are strikers.  Seia has finished 21 out of his 25 wins by (T)KO, and Nelson 12 of his 18, expect both to look for that these fighters are near mirror images of each other, they both mix it up well with their versatile striking.  They both land 72% of their punches to the head, Seia enjoys and advantage with both kicking accuracy and quantity but not by much.  If this fight goes to decision I believe it will be decided in the clinch, the fighter who wins in the clinch game will take this fight, going into this its very even in the clinch.  This is going to be one of those fights is remembered for a long time.

Prediction:  Kuma Nelson in an upset.

MAIN CARD

#6 Leonardo "Wrathchild" Ferreira (15-5) v #9 Sergei "The Paratrooper" Kharitonov (18-6)

Rudy:  You know something Weston, out of the main card the main event of the main card as I like to call it is a heavyweight clash between Leonardo Ferreira and Sergei Kharitonov it might be my favorite fight to look forward to on this main card.  You have Ferreira who is coming of his first loss in a long time over a year actually, it will be interesting to see how he rebounds, will he come back strong and work his way back into title contention or will the surging Sergei Kharitonov keep his streak alive, Sergei has been hot lately winning 7 out of his last 10 fights, he is really starting to gain momentum as a contender in the heavyweight division and this fight will allow us to see if he can take it to the next level.   I think this fight will mostly take place standing but don’t be surprised if Kharitonov shoots in for a takedown in the later moments of the round.

Prediction:  “Wrathchild”  by decision.

# 10 Gabriel "The Archangel" Halo (14-5) v  #7 Jesus Rios (33-11)

Weston:  That is a good fight Rudy, but I want to see more LHW action, im interested in seeing former Heroic LHW champion against the up and coming Gabriel Halo.  Rios has power, he has made a career of KOing people with his amazing clinch work he grinds people out until they have nothing left then puts them away in exciting fashion, it may be hard to believe but Gabriel Halo may actually be more powerful then the former champ.  Out of Halo’s 14 wins 13 have come by way of knockout, and one by submission, Halo has never won a decision so if this fight goes into the later rounds it could swing in Rios’s favor.  If Halo was smart he would keep his distance and strike from striking range  because no one matches the clinch game of Rios.

Prediction:  This might be the first time I have got to do this I think Halo takes this one.

#6 Aaron "Evolution" Edwards (15-5)  v #5  Zoran Miloshevich (24-12)

Weston:  Another LHW battle here this time between two of the divisions biggest prospects.  Aaron Edwards and Zoran Miloshevich have been in Heroic a while, but neither have quite made it to the top.  With this fight we are going to see which fighter emerges as a true contender, which fighter is that elite top 5 caliber, and which is destined to be just outside of the top 5 for the foreseeable future.   Despite both of these fighters being primarily strikers I believe we will see Zoran attempt to get this fight to the ground a few times if its not working he may abandon that game plan and go back to striking.  In the striking game I think Edwards has a small advantage despite having less power than Miloshevich.

Prediction:  Edwards decision.

#9 Wilfredo "May May" Cacho (12-6) v  #8 Noel "The Duke" Smith (26-13)

Rudy:  Hey Weston, you want LHW action, how about these two 9th ranked “May May” Cacho, and 8th ranked Noel Smith.  This is a big fight for Wilfredo, he is 1-2 in Heroic but after his last fight a lot of people are looking at him as better than the record shows because he beat a former long time champion who many picked as a heavy favorite.  I think Cacho will come into this as a heavy underdog again but I am actually picking him to win.  Smith has been a title challenger in Heroic, he fought for the title in his third fight, but since losing that fight he have been up and down,  winning, then losing, every other fight, if he continues that trend he is due for a win here, one thing is sure if he wants to be a contender again he needs stability.

Prediction: Cacho by TKO.
