Heroic 132 preview

Event Preview: HEROIC 132 Hunt v Seia II
HEROIC
2014-01-18, London, Wombley Arena
Author:

Hello fight fans I am “Sunshine” Weston Markson, along with my partner Rudy “The Box” Knife, we are in the Heroic studio to talk about Heroic 132.  Heroic 132 takes place in London, on Saturday Jan 17th, from the Wombley arena where over 93000 screaming fans are expected to show up to watch their favorite fighters do battle.

Rudy:  Don’t forget this is also on PPV so if you cant attend go buy this thing because its one you wont want to miss.  There are some really great fights on this card from welterweight action in the CO-MAIN event, to a Light-Heavyweight rematch that will determine the #1 contender.  Lets get on with this and in to the fights!

MAIN EVENT

#2 p4p #8 Mike Hunt (22-14)  v  #3 p4p #9 Tolo Seia (26-8)

Weston:  The main event of Heroic 132 is a Light-heavyweight rematch between the 2nd ranked LHW and p4p 8th best fighter in Heroic, and the 3rd ranked LHW and 9th best fighter in Heroic this fight will determine the next challenger for Ryo Narushima’s title.  This rematch is one that Tolo Seia wanted desperately even forgoing a title shot that he had earned to make it happen.   Seia feels he has unfinished business with Hunt who beat Seia in his Heroic debut if he wins he will get sweet revenge and an opportunity at the title.  Hunt is coming off his first loss in seven fights, when he lost his title to Ryo, if he can beat Seia in this fight he will jump right back into another shot at the man who took his title.  Will Hunt prove he is still the better fighter or will Seia avenge his loss to Hunt?

Rudy:  Wow, what a fight this is going to be, the first fight was great, and I expect the same out of this one.  The last fight Hunt surprised Seia with his takedowns and ground and pound, with his 60% takedown success rate Seia will know this time around to watch out for the takedowns of Hunt, but will he be able to stop them long enough to score a knockout Seia defends 80% of takedowns against him, if he can stay standing long enough he has some of the most accurate strikes and biggest power in the LHW division.  I think one of these fighters is getting KOed, but is it going to be the GNP of Hunt, or the standup of Seia?

Prediction:  If Seia stuffs Hunt’s takedowns he wins, if not Hunt wins.  Im leaning towards Hunt because of the last fight.

CO-MAIN EVENT

#5 "Peltosaaren Teurastaja" Brutaali Keijo (21-14-2) v  #4 "The Hawk" Sven Dufva (16-6)

Weston:  The CO-MAIN EVENT of Heroic 132 is a welterweight fight between two top 5 ranked welterweights.  4th ranked Sven Dufva has won 6 out of his last 8 fights, and looks to do the one thing he has not done, win Heroic’s welterweight title.  5th ranked Keijo is 4-2-1 in his last 7 fights, as a former champion who actually defended his title successfully during his reign aginst Dufva, you know Keijo is always looking for another opportunity to prove he is the best welterweight in Heroic.  The winner of this fight will put themselves in great position in the division, it could give them a title shot, or put them one or two wins away, only time will tell but a lot is on the line when these two fight for the last time these two met was nearly 8 months ago it will be interesting to see if either fighter has improved more than the other.

Rudy:  It seems like forever since these two first met inside Heroic’s cage.  Last time Keijo was in the prime of his career dominating everyone he fought as the champion, the fight against Dufva wasn’t much different, Keijo dominated in every aspect of  MMA, he won the standup exchanges, he won the clinch battles, and controlled Dufva on the ground.  It was Dufva’s second loss of his career, both were title shots, and a spiraling point for Dufva, after that fight he lost two more straight, and just when it looked like he was down and out he turned it around and is where he is now, now I think the biggest reason for this has been his ground game, he has found a new weapon in his takedowns which he lands 33% of the time.  Keijo is a volume fighter, he doesn’t have great knockout power, he isn’t the most accurate striker landing  under 50% in most strikes, but what he does well is applying constant pressure, he doesn’t slow down the volume of strikes this guy throws is amazing.   I think the fight gets decided in the standup exchanges as I see the fight even in the clinch, and on the ground.

Prediction:  I think Dufva gets the win this time around.

MAIN CARD

#7  Bjorn Helgi (19-7) v  #8 Furious "Fury" George (22-11)

Weston:  The last fight on the main card is a lightweight fight between two of the divisions best.  7th ranked Bjorn Helgi enters the cage on a bit of a slump having gone 3-5 in his last 8 fights, but before that Helgi was one of the hottest prospects on all of MMA, and Heroic’s LW champion.  He started his career in Heroic on a 4 fight win streak, this veteran looks to get back on track winning two straight times for the first time since holding Heroic’s LW title.  George is also coming into this fight on a slump, losing 3 out of his last 4 fights, there is even talk of retirement, selfishly I have loved seeing George compete in the cage and want his career to continue. These two have met before and the victor was George by kneebar I know Helgi wants that one back and if he wins this time around in his mind that will erase the previous loss. The winner of this fight gets the opportunity to work their way out of a tough spot and reemerge as a contender.

Rudy:  This is just one of those old school fights, you know back when MMA first began and you had strikers vs grapplers to see who was the best.  This is one of those fights, you have the striker Helgi, and the grappler George.  Helgi is one of those strikers who throws a lot into each strike hoping to land that KO, with 12 on his record you can see he has been successful with that strategy, but landing under 50% of his strikes if he doesn’t knock out George with one of those heavy shots,  then this fight will hit the ground at some point.  George isn’t the most successful takedown artist landing under 30% of his attempts but he is relentless with his attempts, averaging almost 8 takedowns per fight and what is special about George is what happens when the fight hits the ground.  George is simply one of the greatest submission fighters in MMA history, he has 15 submissions which accounts for nearly 70% of his wins.  This is going to be a fun fight I want to see which guy is more effective and the winner no doubt will be the one who keeps the fight in their world.

Prediction:  I like Helgi to even the series up here.

"The White Wolf"Geralt Of Ravia (20-9) v  Gabe Faber (24-12)

Weston:  Two of the LHW divisions most interesting prospects do battle in this fight when Gabe Faber and Geralt of Ravia meet inside Heroic’s cage, both of these guys have been up and down as of late, winning some, getting in the top 10, and then losing some.  Right now they both sit just outside the top 10 a win will give them a reason to be back in the top 10 and maybe work their way to the top.

Rudy:  This will be a great fight I think most likely a standup battle, I love watching both of these guys fight, Ravia has the better power, and the better chin, but he isn’t as accurate,  in fact Ravia lands under 50% of his strikes, Faber on the other hand has good power, a good chin, but outstanding accuracy.  Faber lands nearly 70% of his strikes, now I think this fight will be at its most interesting in the clinch, both guys enjoy the clinch, and both have good success there, with Faber its his dirty boxing that leads to his success, with Ravia it’s getting in the Muy Thai plum where he can use knees, and even elbows.  I think the winner of the fight if it goes to decision will be the fighter who has the better clinch game.

Prediction:  Ravia by decision.

#8 Chris Kendall (24-9) v  # 9 Maximus Scott (34-17-1)

Weston:  The first fight on the main card is a Welterweight fight between 8th ranked Chris Kendall and 9th ranked Maximus Scott.  Scott has had two fights in Heroic, one a draw, and one a TKO (Cut) loss, in this fight he looks to get his first win, prove the hype was justified, and start his path towards title contender.  For Kendall this fight could be huge for getting back in the title picture, Kendall was once a title challenger but since that success has been up and down, to get back to the top he will need some consistency and with a win over Scott that could be the start of his way back to the top.

Rudy:  What a fight this is my pick for FOTN.  Two great welterweights, Scott is a little more well-rounded he has both a good offensive standup and ground game, Scott lands 40% of his takedowns so if the fight isn’t going his way standing look for him to get it to the mat.  Kendall also lands 40% of his takedowns, but he rarely attempts them, where Kendall excels is in the clinch with his dirty boxing, I have never seen a fighter as accurate as he with his dirty boxing, he lands 90% of his head punches, and 82% of body punches.  Look for Kendall to get this fight in the clinch work Scott over to the body with punches, and then finish with head punches.

Prediction:  Tough one to call I think its really close ill take Scott by late TKO.
