A name that stands out amongst the die-hard mixed martial arts fans in Australia is Ben Alloway.
Many would remember Ben from his fight with top contender Ben Mortimer back at Nitro 3 in 2011, Alloway fought the best fight of his career and showed everyone in Australia that he could hang with the best. After beating down Mortimer for the better part of three rounds Alloway ended up getting caught with an arm bar; “that’s MMA” Ben stated to me. “Anything can happen in this sport and it did”, that fight changed Ben’s mindset, he told me that “It showed me what I can do inside the cage and made me believe I could hang with the best in Australia” and that “I didn’t see it as being beaten. I saw it as a loss and it made me a better fighter.”
Since that night Ben has not lost a fight and each time he has entered the cage he continues to look better and better. His next fight is set with Brace For War on the 28th of April in Coffs Harbour, it’s quite a predicament that Ben finds himself in, if he is victorious he has the opportunity to go on and fight for the organizations title however he is also looking to expand his horizons and take some more fights outside of the Australian scene. “To be honest I am confident enough that I could fight in the UFC” Ben stated. Now, all fighters say this and they all think that they are ready but after spending the better part of nine months training in Springfield Illinois with Fiore MMA Ben thinks that his time to hit the big time has come.
Ben was pretty adamant that there is a pretty big potential for him to continue his career overseas after his next fight “I have travelled overseas and trained with some of the best” and “I think that after this fight I am ready to take the next step”. Boasting an impressive record of 11 wins with just 3 losses his words are pretty accurate, “I am ready to make the next big step” Ben stated and providing he wins at the end of April I couldn’t agree more. I think that Ben has done everything he needs to in the Australian scene and that things are looking up for the Fiore MMA prospect.
Recently drama has unfolded regarding Ben and a potential fight with Manny Rodriguez, a lot of fans have said that this is a fight they want to see, Ben however sees it a little differently. “I would fight him if the chance came up” Ben told me “I don’t see myself fighting in Australia after my next fight though.” On the Facebook arguments Ben laughed it off “The trash talk stuff I am not too keen on. I try to keep my mouth shut and get on with it.”
I would like to thank Ben for taking the time to talk with me in what is set to be vital (and surely busy) preparation for his next fight. Ben wanted to take the time to thank his sponsors; Planet Max Supplements, Axis Jiu-Jitsu, Punch Equipment, Nutrition Underground, Suburban Armour, Intensiti Fighter Management, Fiore MMA “Mr. C” and most importantly his wife who has been supportive and understanding of Ben’s flourishing MMA career and is a big part of why Ben has been able to travel to train and perfect his art.
Be on the lookout as Ben makes the leap from Australian top contender to a dominant force on the international MMA scene!
