Codin "The Viper" Viperescu (7-1-0)

The heavy-handed Romanian, now fighting out of London, cut his teeth as a professional while competing on The Island last season. One of the success stories coming out of the first season of The Island, "The Viper" made it to the semi-finals of the end of season tournament and was ranked as a top 5 Super Heavyweight. Viperescu enjoyed a 6-fight win streak on The Island where he earned a reputation as a dangerous striker not to be underestimated; finishing all of his fights by KO/TKO in 32 seconds or less. Prior to taking part in the end of year tournament, Viperescu earned the Utopia Super Heavyweight Title via 10 second KO of Jack Sparrrrow and defended it against granite-chinned Hassan Lamouna (32 second TKO).

Off of The Island, Codin has found a home to display his abilities with Steel Penn's Extreme K-1 Combat. A five-second knockout of granite-chinned Rocky Marin via a big right hand ensured Viperescu a title shot against Tobin Frost. The challenger meets the champion on February 6th where Viperescu will vy for the Xtreme K-1 Combat Super Heavyweight Title.

Frost holds an undefeated 4-0-0 record with one title defence. A dangerous Muay Thai fighter, Frost is athletic and strong. He's finished three of his four fights and won the Extreme K-1 Combat Showdown grand prix to be awarded the title. This fight should be a short and violent affair and is not to be missed!

INTERVIEW

You came off of the inaugural season of The Island as one of the top-ranked fighters and a title-holder with Utopia. How has this success helped you in your still-young career?

Codin: It helped me, as soon I arrived in London some organizations offered me good contracts. I chose KT because I am a stand-up fighter and all my training is based on stand-up skills for now.

Why did you decide to settle in London following your time on The Island?

Codin: London have many managers and many strong fighters, I like the challange and here I can find it.

So far in your career you've never been out of the first round in a fight and have knocked out multiple guys who are considered to have a 'granite' chin. Is the power you possess something that came naturally or a result of extensive training?

Codin: My manager did extensive scouting to find a fighter with good KO power. I would like to thanks him because he chose me and I am trying to not disappoint him. I work hard in gym to improve my strength and other skills.

How has the training been going for your upcoming Xtreme K-1 Combat Super Heavyweight Title fight against champion Tobin Frost? Is there anything special you're doing in preparation for this fight?

Codin: Will be an interesting fight. He is a clinch fighter and my single defeat come also from a clinch fighter. I will prepare my tactics very well because I know he can mean trouble if we enter in a clinch.

Since coming off The Island you've been fighting exclusively for Xtreme K-1 Combat and only competing as a kickboxer. Do you have plans to return to regular MMA competition in the future?

Codin: Now I have 20 years. When I will have 25 or so, I will like to return to regular MMA. But until then I will like to become number one KT fighter in the world for my weight class, that's my dream!

Fighters like Codin Viperescu are the epitome of what Diamond Nutrition represents: world-class quality.
