Event Preview: HEROIC 137 New Beginnings
Steel Penn Fighting Temple
2014-02-08, Los Angeles, LA Memorial Colossuseum
Author:

Hello fight fans, im “Sunshine” Weston Markson, along with my partner Rudy “The Box” Knife, we are here in the Heroic studio to talk about Heroic 137.  Heroic 137 is going to be a huge night, full of great fights we expect over 93,000 screaming fans at the LA Memorial Colossuseum in Los Angeles.  THAT’S RIGHT, for the first time Heroic goes outside of London and into hostile territory.

Rudy:  You know going to another country for the first time could be interesting, but even more interesting, tonight will be the first of many taste for all the fight fans who have been waiting to see how they merger between Steel Penn, and Heroic plays out.  Tonight live on PPV hundreds of thousands will witness that first glimpse into the future.

MAIN EVENT

#1/C "Parent Killer" Ryo Narushima (40-10)  v  #1/C "The Holy Man" Jensen Saint (35-17)  205 lbs title

Weston:  The main event of Heroic 137 is a light-heavyweight MEGA FIGHT, a clash of the champions, a champion vs champion bout to determine the NEW undisputed, unified, Heroic Light-Heavyweight champion of the world.  Both of these guys are champions, both come into this fight ranked #1 in their division, but at the end of the night only one of these two will sit atop the LHW division.  Will the unified champion be Ryo Narushima as he continues to grow his legacy?  Or will Jensen Saint come out the victor and start what could be a legendry run?

Rudy:  WOOOO!  This is spectacular I think im at midnight and 6,….yeah I think this fight gives me a giant erection.   I think the winner of this fight has a spot inside the top 10 p4p fighters in all of a MMA, so not only is the title on the line, but a potential spot as one of the 10 best fighters on the planet.  Narushima is a striker, and one of the most feared strikers in the history of MMA, he is the former p4p best fighter on the planet and its his striking, KO power, and killer instincts that got him there, and may open the door for an eventual return.  Narushima uses his leg kicks to slow down his opponent, he lands the leg kicks 74% of the time, once he has his opponent where he wants him, he turns up the heat and seeks the knockout.  Narushima has won 80% of his fights by knockout!    Jensen Saint on the other hand is one of the best ground fighters in the LHW division, his relentlessly pursues the takedown, averaging almost 5 attempts per fight, what is the most impressive is he lands nearly 50% of his takedown attempts, that’s huge, you can almost count on every fight Jensen getting the fight down to the ground at some point, for him he hopes its early so he can work his GNP, and submission game.  Saint is also a finisher finishing almost 70% of his wins.  I think this fight will be most exciting in the transitions, whoever gets the upper hand in this aspect of the fight I think will win.

Prediction:  I think my prediction is this fight doesn’t last 25 minutes.

CO-MAIN EVENT

Chung Quela (22-10)  v  Thiago "Fiote" Tavares (13-4)

Weston:  The CO-MAIN Event of the evening is a super heavyweight battle between two guys who are just on the outside of the top 10.  I mean you could literally be looking at the 11th and 12th ranked fighters in the SHW division.  Chung comes into this fight having won 3 straight fights,  which was much needed after dropping two straight to the current champion, in Quela’s last 10 fights Quela has gone 6-4 he has only lost once to a non, current/former Heroic champion, If there is ever a such thing as good losses I would say Quela has had some, his level of competition could be a big factor in his current 3 fight win streak having fought some of the best in the world could he now be ready to make a run towards the SHW title?, Not of Thiago Tavares has anything to say about it, a short time ago Thiago lost of the first time in 5 fights, when he lost to #3rd ranked Willy Stoppers.  Now Thiago looks to get back on track against Quela, and make another run towards the top of the division, both of these guys have gold on the mind but only one will get the opportunity to move forward.

Rudy:  Are you ready for a KO!?  Get ready because im quite positive this fight will end with one of these men laying down on the ground unconscious.  They both have won nearly 75% of their fights by KO, that’s huge, this battle between giants will almost be guaranteed to stay standing.   Quela is more accurate with his kicks landing nearly 70% of kicks and really wearing his opponents down with quick, powerful, and accurate leg kicks, Tavares on the other hand shows more promise with his boxing and hands, he lands around 65% of his punches when they are aimed at his opponents head, I think he will come out head hunting, while Quela takes a more methodical approach.  Which one paysoff?

Prediction:  I think Quela gets the win by TKO

MAIN CARD

#1/C Virgil Cid (24-7-1) v  #6 Zophiel Furfur (22-9)  155 lbs title

Weston:  The last fight on the main card is a lightweight title fight between champion Virgil Cid and challenger Zophiel Furfur.  Furfur comes into this fight ranked 6th and as a huge underdog.  If he has one thing on his side its his 4 fight win streak has built him the confidence needed to possibly take the title from Cid.  Cid is easily the face of this division, the most successful champion in the LHW divisions history.  He has won 7 straight title fights, and looks like he will never lose his title.  I cant wait to see these two fight it’s a battle between the dominant champion, and the underdog!

Rudy:  Yeah tell me about it, this is my early pick for FOTN, its going to be a solid slug fest, the kinda of fight that almost every fan loves to see.  Neither of these fighters are to careful they both tend to keep the fight standing and just swing for the fences.  They are both aggressive attempting around 75 strikes per fight on average.  FOTN right here, im telling you right now ill put my left eye ball on the line.

Prediction:  Cid keeps his streak alive.

#7 Glenn Carson (25-13-1) v  #9 Lance Domingo (12-5)

Weston:  The next fight on the main card is a battle between two ranked middleweights.  #7 Glenn Carson meets 9th ranked Lance Domingo.  Carson comes into this fight having won two straight fights, and Domingo comes into this fight having won his first fight in 9 months in his last outing due to a long layoff.  This fight is going to be wild, these two are mirror images of each other, both are elite wrestlers, both are elite boxers, both are elite BJJ grapplers.  I have no clue what to expect because these two are so similar.  Domingo is the better striker according to the numbers landing at a pretty good percentage around 67% total for a grappler I think that’s solid, he also lands 60% of his takedown attempts, and is a finisher, Domingo has only seen the judges scorecards two times having lost both fights by decision.  For Domingo you can expect more of the same, he will come out whether it be standing or on the ground and search for the finish.  Carson will also do the same but I expect him to be more wild, he will wing his punches trying to put more into them, Carson also has a good takedown percentage landing nearly 33% of his takedowns.  I think this fight will be back and forth until one guy makes a mistake the other will capitalize on.

Prediction:  Carson by TKO.

Aaron Davidson (28-14-1) v "The Underestimated" Michael Ehrmantraut (10-7)

Rudy:   The next fight is a welterweight fight between Aaron Davidson, and Michael Ehrmantraut.  Davidson has for long been one of the divisions best fighters, a former champion, he has faced stiff competition, now on a two fight losing skid he gets to take on the up and coming Michael Ehrmantraut, who has lived up to his moniker of “The Underestimated” Michael comes into this fight on one of the best runs of his career having won two straight and 5 out of his last 6.  With a win over Davidson it’s a sure thing that no longer will Michael be “The Underestimated”

"Indio" Simeon Malaya (24-9) v  Nezu "Never Sleep" Nambara (12-6-2)

Weston:  The first fight on the main card is welterweight fight between Simeon Malaya and Nezu Nambara, don’t same those names ten times really fast.  Both of these fighters are in the mix and with a win could be ranked in the top 10 of the division, Malaya has won 4 out of his last 6, and Nambara has lost 4 out of his last 6.  One could say nambara is a bit of an underdog in this fight and with a win could build some big confidence for him and possibly be the stepping stone to bigger and better things.

PRELIMS

Xavier Cid  v  Alfredo Torres

Joni Betoni  v  Dennis Oppelaar

Antonio Vegata  v  Master Chuin

Yuri Boyka  v  Mark Spencer
