Heavyweight Title Tournament preivew

Event Preview: Barbarian Tournament 265lbs
Barbarian Fight Club (ID 230K+)
2014-02-26, Rio de Janeiro, Hayashi's Lounge - Rio
Author:Tony Rossi

This will be the last of the opening round tournaments. After this event we will start crowning our champions one by one. As usual MANGO nutrition will sponsor this event and the heavyweight title tournament will be Hayashi's Lounge in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. This event is packed with heavyweight fights as we will have four of them, and we will have three light heavyweight fights so if you want to see the big guys mix it up this is the event for you. You can also find betting odds for this event at Barbarian Bets so buy your tickets, place your bets, pick up your nutritional needs and head down to the Hayashi's Lounge for a night of great fights.

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Heavyweight Fight (265lbs)

Varus "Hanniball" Gracie (1-2) {1-1} versus Jack "Foo" Dutra (0-2) {0-1}

Gracie struggled in his first two fights, but in his last fight everything clicked. It may have only been a decision win, but it was unanimous and he seemed a bit sharper in that fight. He took on the same man he will be facing at this event, so he should be looking to have a similar game plan. Dutra is looking to avenge his first loss in Barbarian Fight Club and to that he will need to turn this fight into a strike fest. I think Dutra has the better striking skills and he has the power to knock out Gracie, it will just be a manner of where the fight takes place. I see Dutra doing a little better but I am going to pick Gracie to win this one by decision again.

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Danilo Meireles (0-0) {0-0} versus Matt "Radioactive" Dutra (0-0) {0-0}

This is going to be one of the hardest fights to try and pick a winner. Both of these guys are making their debut and they are both just eighteen years old. Danilo has a strong wrestling base and I can only assume he will be looking to control and ground and pound. Dutra is also a wrestler and most likely a ground and pounder so it would seem like the person who gets the takedown should win the fight. This is such a hard one to pick but I am going to go with Danilo Meireles to win by decision, and I only picked him because of the gym he trains at.

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Heavyweight Fight (265lbs)

Rocco LeBaron (2-0) {0-0} versus Tim "The One" Thedford (1-0) {1-0}

This is one of the more interesting match ups on the card, not so much because of the fighter but because of the managers. Both of these managers have been around for a long time one of which has had over two hundred and fifty fights and the other has had over one hundred. Obviously these two are highly respected and they know how to game plan so we will truly get to see a war of strategy. LeBaron has won both of his previous fights, none of which were in BFC, and he won them both by TKO in the first round. The hard hitting Frenchman will be looking to take The One’s head off with punches in the clinch. Tim Thedford also has a back round Muay Thai just like LeBaron but he is more of a distance player than a clincher. He will try to keep space from LeBaron by using a barrage of kicks at different levels. Thedford also loves some ground and pound so if Rocco does gain the advantage with a clinch look for a trip or a double leg from Tim Thedford. This will be a very difficult fight to pick a winner in, but I love the clinch fighters so I am going to pick the Frenchmen Rocco LeBaron to win by TKO in the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Kesigan "Powerbomb" Hendricks (1-0) {0-0} versus Andrews "The Striker" Silver (1-0) {0-0}

We have two more fighters making their BFC debuts bringing the total to five fighters making their debut within four fights. Hendricks is a wrestler who holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In his only fight Hendricks ground and pounded his way to victory without even attempting a submission, he may want to think of an alternative victory method for this one. The reason Hendricks may need to rethink his game plan is Silver’s ground game. He is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and he also has a little wrestling to complement it. Silver also ground and pounded his way to victory in his only fight so this should be determined by who can get the takedown first. I am going to pick Hendricks to win this by TKO in the first round basically because I flipped a coin and it was heads.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Cheech "Tokemaster" Marin (2-0) {1-0} versus Lance Milliwan (1-0) {0-0}

Cheech showed off his submission skills in his Barbarian Fight Club debut. He struggled getting a takedown, but he was taken down to the mat and he locked in a triangle choke for the win. If he gets this fight to the ground I am not sure it will be so easy for him to get the submission victory, but he is overmatched standing up and will need to at least test the fight on the ground. Milliwan is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and he has been working on his Muay Thai as well. In his only fight Milliwan took the fight to the ground but he also showed that he can strike as well. He should pose a huge problem for Marin as his Jiu Jitsu and stand up is better. Marin only has the advantage in wrestling and that could be a problem for him. I am going to pick Lance Milliwan to win via submission in the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 1- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Teseu "Phoenix" Nogueira (1-0) {0-0} versus Pit "Bulldog" Mies (5-2) {2-2}

It is always tough to make your debut at anything, but what is going to make Nogueira’s debut even tougher is a very exprinced opponent. Mies is a seven fight veteran and four of those fights have taken place in Barbarian Fight Club. Nogueira should hear a lot of cheering for Mies and he cannot let it bother him. He will need to out wrestle him and look for any chance to put the ground and pound into action. If Nogueira can defend submissions and outpoint Mies he will have nothing to worry about in this fight. Mies on the other hand needs to figure out how to finish fights. The one thing you never want to do in MMA is leave the fight in the hands of the judges and Pit has done that in five of his seven fights. I think Teseu will win his debut because he has already finished just as many opponents as Mies, and I got a TKO in the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 2- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Adrien "leão" Silva (2-0) {1-0} versus Thomas "Netherdie" Dijkman (4-0) {0-0}

The submission master Adrien Silva made weight and then went to McDonalds? Wow I hope that greasy almost meat doesn’t slow the poor guy down. So far in Silva’s short career he has not be tested like he will be in this fight. Obviously his game plan will be to get the fight to the ground where he can show off his amazing Jiu Jitsu skills that has won him his first two fights, but getting the fight to the mat will not be and easy task. Dijkman has been dominate in his first four fights finishing all of his opponents two by submission and two by TKO. In this fight Dijkman will not want to play around on the mat with Silva but his stand up is far superior so standing up will not be a problem. I am going with Dijkman to win this fight with a second round TKO and maybe Silva will stop eating McDonalds before a fight.

Main Card Bout Number 3- Heavyweight Title Tournament Fight (265lbs)

Jermain "Big Nasty " Johnson (3-1) {1-1} versus Arturo "Thunder" Gatti (2-2) {2-1}

This fight should be about more than just advancing in the tournament for these two fighters. Both of these guys are coming off losses and the guys who beat them are the other two members of the tournament. This fight is about redemption as I am sure Johnson wants to get his hands on Loveladdy and Gatti wants another shot at Tyson. This should be a very strange fight for Johnson since he is a wrestler and I think Gatti has better wrestling Johnson will need to look to keep the fight standing. If he does both fighters will be out of there elements and then anything could happen. I think Gatti will want to take the fight to the ground as he should know he has the better grappling skills and since Johnson is a wrestler as well I am sure this fight will end up on the mat. I got Gatti winning this fight via TKO in the third round.

Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Tommy Duncan (5-0) {0-0} versus Jan Jankowski (3-2) {1-1}

Duncan will be making his Barbarian Fight Club debut and I feel like I have been writing that a lot tonight. He is currently five and zero with four wins by submission and one by decision. He will have some difficulties getting the submission victory in this fight and I think he should be looking to point grapple since he is the far better wrestler. Jan Jankowski has won three fights all by submission and lost two fights both of which were by decision so he needs to finish his fights. He might be in luck since Duncan is a wrestler it could and should play right into his hand. He should look to score a takedown of his own, but if he can’t land it Duncan will put him on the mat. Since Jan is overmatched in the grappling he should look to lock up a submission nice and early and try and avoid the judges if all possible. I think Jan will not get the takedown but I think he can get the submission victory and I think it will come in the second round.

Main Event Main Card Bout Number 5- Heavyweight Title Tournament Fight (265lbs)

Rodrigo "One Hit Ko" Tyson (4-2) {2-1} versus Brandon "The White Tiger" Loveladdy (4-0) {2-0}

This should be a slugfest for the ages. These two fighters have combined for eight wins with eight knockouts so you know somebody is going to be put out. So far Loveladdy has been unstoppable as he has four wins with zero losses and he has stopped all of his opponents in less than three minutes. All six of Tyson’s fights have ended in less than three minutes as well, but Tyson has only been on the winning side four of the six times. Both of Tyson’s losses came by knockout so he has been fighting the best knockout fighters around, or he has a weak chin. For him I hope it’s not the latter but it seems that might be the case. With these two fighters histories I am going to have to pick Loveladdy to win this fight by knockout in under three minutes.

Ten action packed fights we are going to be showcasing on this event. There is a lot of new faces as well as some of your favorite Barbarian Personalities to go along with the newbies. On top of that you have the heavyweight title tournament so what more could you ask for. I hope to see all of you Wednesday night but if I don’t I will see you for the lightweight finals preview coming in the next few days.
