SPNY 159: Bravo - Anderson
Hello MMA fans we have a great event for you at Steel Penn New York. I am your fight annalist Mr Knowledge this is my first time here and I hope you will enjoy reading this as much as I enjoy writing it. So now we got my introduction out the way let us move onto the prelim matches.
First up we have a match up with Long Silver Vs William Harrison at 145
Silver comes in with a 2-2-0 MMA record after knocking up a 2 fight win streak in the QFC, SPNY quickly signed him up. His main strength lays in his Muay Thai but matched against Harrison I don’t see him being able to bully his way around on the feet. Harrison is coming of a win in his last fight bringing his MMA record to 3-3-0 and his SPNY record to 2-3-0. I can see this being a easy enough win for Harrison being superior in all aspects and being the bigger man.
My prediction: Harrison TKO second round
The second fight of the night is between Ahkenaton Vs Nunes at 185
I see this being an interesting fight both fighters are very skilled and have between them 58 fights. Ahkenaton has had a hard time in SPNY so far winning only 1 of his three fights but don’t judge him by that he has a lot of skill and I’m sure he will find his feet in the big leagues soon.
Nunes is a SPNY vet having 21 fights for us 9 victories and 11 defeats and one draw. He always brings the fight and is a fan favourite he tends to live by a ‘ I’m knocking you out or get knocked out trying’ attitude.
My prediction: Ahkenaton KO
Next up we have Aitkens Vs Fayden at 170
Both of these fighters are on a win streak Aitkens with a 3 fight streak and Fayden winning 2 on the spin, both are extremely talented fighters and both have a good chance of ending the fight early.
Aitkens is no stranger to knocking people out and has never been submitted.
Fayden is a beast on the ground with superb wrestling and a BJJ black belt can he be the first to submit Aitkens.
On paper Aitkens will be the favourite looking to keep the fight standing against the BBJ black belt and look for the KO but Fayden will be looking for opportunities to counter and bring the fight to the ground and work his expert BJJ for the submission win. I highly doubt this fight will make it to the final bell.
My prediction : Aitkens KO
Hanson Vs Skarbowsky at 155 will be the next fight.
Hanson is a fighter with an extensive record 27-19-1, 16 of those fights being stopped early all his skills are among the best in the world with wrestling being a stand out for him. Skarbowsky has a record of 14-6-1, 10 fights by way of TKO his Thai boxing skills have made him a stand out in the 155 division.
This fight is going to be another war in our line up, Skarbowsky will be looking to keep this on the feet and clinching up with Hanson and doing damage with his strikes, Hanson cant be taken light on his feet though he has enough skill to cause complications but on the ground is where he will take control, if he manages to get it to the mat I can see a submission finish.
My prediction : Hanson by decision
Candidate for potential fight of the night is between Dondarrion Vs Folignus
This is going to be an all out war both fighters looking to establish themselves as a top contender for the 185 belt. Dondarrion know for his spectacular finishes and amazing striking skills will be looking to show case everything he has learnt and put on a career defining performance. Folignus has been given an opportunity to prove he deserves to be considered one of the best, not being able to consistently get a win streak behind him has knocked his chances of titles for a while now so will tonight be the night he turns this around.
Dondarrions KEY TO VICTORY will be in keeping the fight standing and picking out his opponents gaps and setting up a power shot to end the night.
Follignus KEY TO VICTORY will be to clinch up pepper in shots then work the take down and score points being on top working for subs and GNP
My prediction : Follignus by decision
*** 145 TITLE FIGHT ***
This title fight between Antunes Vs Negi is a hotly anticipated match but has been over shadowed by Negi’s anger towards Arus Fletcher I am not even sure if would have prepared for Antunes which would be a massive mistake because he was already the underdog going into this fight. I hope for his sake that all his attention will be on winning this match and leaving with the title.
Antunes brags a perfect record and is the favourite in this match up with his skills far superior I see an easy nights work for him having Negi’s mind elsewhere as well will sure be a help for him.
My prediction : Antunes TKO
Romo Vs Alvarez at 265
You couldn’t find a more evenly matched fight if you tried both fighters sensational in all aspects of the game this fight on its own could make a main event all on its own.
Romo the younger of the two will be looking to use his youth to out work Alvarez and pick up the win he has the skill to take the fight anywhere and end it anywhere. His last fight only lasted .55 seconds of the first round with a massive punch KOing his opponent he will be looking for more of the same tonight.
Alverez dominated his last opponent into a decision victory and with the same as Romo he has the skill to take this fight anywhere and end it if he chooses.
This will be a tough fight for both fighters and a risky one too one slip up and it will be lights out or black out, it will be very entertaining to watch.
My prediction : Romo by Ko
The next fight will be between Torrance and Zarathustra hope I pronounced that correctly.
Torrance is coming in with a record of 19-17 but is a true ko specialist who is known to risk all inside the cage his kickboxing skills are admired all around the mma community and they have helped him earn a 2 fight win streak.
Zarathustra is known to have some of the most deadly BJJ knowledge around but is a fighter who loves to knock guys out he has been on the wrong end of a few decisions and not being able to put a streak to match his skill set his confidence coming in might be a big concern but im sure if he fights how I know he can he could turn his frown upside down.
My prediction : Torrance by KO
Morgan Vs Thory at 185 is a must win match for both fighters both losing their last fights will need to end tonight’s match early to prove they are a force to be reckoned with.
Morgan has the advantage on the ground and will be looking for a quick take down and try to keep his opponent there and earn a submission win. He is known to be a little bit chinny going in with people who can land on the target will that be a factor tonight?
Thory was a top prospect before he lost his last match and will need to prove tonight that it was only a slight hiccup and he will get back to winning ways, known to be a KO artist and his opponent not being able to last with people who can land their shots I will hazard a guess he will cause some problems if he manages to stuff takedowns.
My prediction : Thory by KO
*******MAIN EVENT*******
Bravo Vs Anderson at 205
This is the main event it’s the fight you have been wanting to see and soon you will Bravo is coming into the fight with a loss in his last fight and we don’t know what effect it will have on him but being a professional I’m sure he will have trained harder and be even more focused than ever to get back into winning ways. His record boast an impressive submission record but he is up against a elite wrestler who will give him a run for his money on the ground. Anderson is coming in on a win in his last fight and will be riding a high coming in, can he use that momentum to pull off a massive victory here and sling shot himself into stardom in the SPNY. He needs to push the pace in this fight and throw Bravo of his game plan, use his wrestling to keep it on the feet and score a KO in what he has shown he is capable of many times before.
My prediction : Anderson KO
