205lbs Finals

Event Preview: Barbarian 205lbs Final
Barbarian Fight Club (ID 230K+)
2014-03-05, Rio de Janeiro, The Underground - Rio
Author:Tony Rossi

We have crowned our first champion and it is lightweight Pepe Lepew, so congratulation on that Pepe! Tonight we will crown our light heavyweight champion when two friends Aderbal Maia and Sheldon Cooper lock it up. It promises to be a terrific grappling match up that will most certainly end in a submission. MANGO nutrition will be presenting this event and it will take place at The Underground and as always Barbarian Bets will have odds on some of the fights. I suggest you read this article and then place your bets as I was a perfect five for five and I really cleaned up at Barbarian Bets for the Lightweight Final event. So without further ado Barbarian Fight Club brings to you the Light Heavyweight Final!

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Hakeem Ali (1-1) {0-0} versus Guilherme "Caxa" Dellelo (0-0) {0-0}

Ali is a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and he usually will be looking to get this fight to the ground to utilize his submission skills. I don’t think he can take that route in this one considering his opponent is a far better wrestler and has a higher rank in BJJ. Ali may want to try and box in this fight, he should try to move in and out and land for a high percentage to try and steel this one by points. Dellelo as I stated is a wrestler and he holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Since Ali is also a grappler I don’t think Dellelo should go balls to the wall on going for a submission, but he should look to control and out point the fight on the ground, and take advantage of any limb that may be flopping around. I think Dellelo wins this fight but I don’t think either one of these guys can finish the other so I have this going the distance.

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Ray Nogueira (2-2) {1-1} versus Knus "Svina" Krust (1-1) {0-1}

Nogueira is a boxer and a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter who has yet to be impressive in Barbarian Fight Club. He needs to get things turned around and start heading in the right direction. First thing on the list for turning things around, get into a gym and start training again. Krust is a Muay Thai fighter who will clinch or strike from a far. He should look to clinch in this fight and take away the boxing power from Nogueira. Krust is also not training full time and if you want to be successful in this sport you need to dedicate all of your time to it, so regardless of who wins I do not see their career going anywhere. I will pick Krust to win by decision in this fight.

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Heavyweight Fight (265lbs)

Nuno "Facas" Facas (1-1) {1-0} versus Ricson "White Tiger" Gracie (4-0) {0-0}

The twenty five year old Muay Thai striker Facas won his debut in Barbarian Fight Club via split decision. He landed thirteen head kicks in the fight but none of them were strong enough to put his opponent to sleep. He did not work from the clinch at all so it would seem he is a one trick pony. He will be looking to kick his way to victory in this next bout but he will need to cut back on the amount of times he goes to the head. Gracie is a ground and pound specialist and he has won all four of his professional fights with that strategy. If Facas comes in with a lot of head kicks Gracie will be taking him to the mat where he should dominate the fight. With Nuno’s lack of being able to finish I think Gracie will get a take down and pound his way to victory in the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Generic "The Python" Brazilian (1-1) {0-1} versus Mike Sinatra (1-0) {0-0}

Brazilian is a wrestler and a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He will want to take the fight to the ground and start working on the limbs of Sinatra. In his only fight in Barbarian Fight Club Brazilian took a loss to Dj Paul and it was by submission. In this fight Generic will not be worried about any submissions coming from Sinatra so he should be looking to take it to the ground immediately. Sinatra is a boxer and a wrestler who will be looking to sprawl and brawl. He needs to remember one important thing in this fight, keep it standing to win. Standing up Brazilian will not be able to compete with Mike and everyone knows it. I think Sinatra wins this fight by TKO early in the first round after defending a few takedowns.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Heavyweight Fight (265lbs)

Chin HoKelly (2-2) {2-2} versus Imperiex Prime (5-4) {0-1}

We have seen HoKelly be really good and really bad. It seems when he can move in and out of the clinch he is at his best. With this opponent I think if HoKelly stays on the inside more and uses the amazing dirty boxing of his he should be able to win this one. Prime is a boxer with very heavy hands. In his debut fight in Barbarian Fight Club we saw that Prime is not a grappler as he was submitted quickly. Since both of these fighters will want to stand and strike I think Prime will only have to worry about the clinch. With his power though he might be able to keep HoKelly at bay. I don’t think that will be the case and I see HoKelly getting to the inside. I will be picking HoKelly to win this fight by TKO in the late first round or very early second round.

 Main Card Bout Number 1- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)

Sponge Bones (2-1) {1-1} versus Jose "Shaker" Ribeiro (2-0) {1-0}

Bones will have a slight advantage on the feet in this fight, but since both of these guys are wrestlers and they both hold a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu I don’t see this thing being on the feet for too long. I am not sure who will hold the advantage on the ground since they are so similar in style. They should both be able to finish from the bottom but I am not sure if either one of them would be happy to have the other on top of them. I am going to say whoever gets the first takedown gets the submission victory in this fight. I am going to make a guess and say that Bones will be the winner of this fight late in the second round.

Main Card Bout Number 2- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)

Zachary "Zap Zap" White (4-1) {2-1} versus Diego "Nightmare" Rios (2-0) {2-0}

One of the most entertaining fighters in Barbarian Fight Club Zachary White has another big challenge ahead of him. White has claimed he would like to drop in weight class, but if he beats Rios he should pursue a rematch with Light Weight Champion Pepe Lepew. If White can figure out a way to deal with the clinch he could dominate this division for a long time. Rios will not be looking to clinch but rather stand and bang with White. Rios is an amazing boxer and should be albe to keep up with White, and he may even be able to mix it up a little more. It is going to come down to, who has the best chin in this one, and it is a tough call but I am going with White to win by TKO in the second round.

Main Card Bout Number 3- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)

Rafael Silva (4-1) {2-0} versus Jason "Twister" Jones (2-0) {1-0}

If Silva gets a win here it could set him up with a title shot in the very near future. He is a wrestler and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but for this fight I think he will need to score as many points in the stand up in case this goes to the judges. He should be looking to do some counter grappling but try not to stay on the ground the entire time. The reason is Jones who is undefeated is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and I think he is a better wrestler. Jones will have no chance standing up so if Silva can beat on him and take him down but not stay there for too long he will be in some major trouble. Jones is going to need to get on top and hold the dominate position for as long as possible even if he is working for a submission victory. I am going to pick Silva to win in a very good fight, and I think he gets the win by decision.

Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Bruno Da Gaucho (9-1) {0-0} versus Sergei "Зве" Shunkov (2-2) {2-1}

We finally get to see Bruno Da Gaucho in action since he signed with Barbarian Fight Club. I can’t wait to see the former HFC bantamweight champion is action. The brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu won the title twice in HFC but only lost it once as he was the champion when the organization closed its doors. He will certainly want to get this fight to the ground and look for a submission to end Shunkov early. Sergei might be a little over matched in this one sine he is so similar to Gaucho but Gaucho has been training longer. His best be will be to just test the water in the first round and see if there is anything he can exploit in rounds two and three. I do not see how Sergei can with this fight though and I am picking Gaucho to win in the second round.

Main Event Main Card Bout Number 5- Light Heavyweight Title Fight (205lbs)

Aderbal "Tapout" Maia (8-0) {4-0} versus Sheldon "The Doctor" Cooper (4-1) {4-1}

This fight should see about zero percent being contested on the feet. Both of these guys are wrestlers and brown belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so this will be an ultimate grappling contest. Maia is going to have several advantages in this one because of the difference in training methods. Plus Maia is slightly older and has had more fights so he will get a big boost in favor of winning the fight in my book. I also think Maia is the better wrestler in this one and he might be the more intelligent fighter as well. Maia is undefeated and Cooper has been knocked out. We should think that Maia has better conditioning as he has actually been out of the first round. I think the easy, safe, and correct pick in this fight is Aderbal Maia to win by submission and I would say the second maybe even the third round.

Wow I cannot wait to see this event in action. So many good fights, a few title implications, and a new champion will be crowned what more could you ask for. As always this have been Tony Rossi and thank you for reading another one of my reviews. The monthly report for BFC should be out over the weekend so also look for that to be coming. I will see you all on Wednesday March 5th for the 205lbs Finals!
