WFL 15 Preview by Tony Rossi

Event Preview: WFL 15- Rostowski vs Dostan II
Warrior Fight League
2014-03-15, Helsinki, The Underground - Helsinki
Author:Josh James

  Alright no title fights folks but that’s no big deal. We still have a big featherweight double main event as well as eight other great fights. We will be live at The Underground in Helsinki for WFL 15- Rostowski vs Dostan II. Dostan lost by decision last time out and it was a great fight. We will have to see how this next one is going to turn out but we can’t get there until we look at the other great fights on this event.

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Martin "The Mauler" Parlo (0-1) {0-1} versus Piotr "Bonus Bgc" Witczak (0-0) {0-0}

Parlo did not look good in his debut but then again he was taken to the ground and dominated. He will not need to worry about being taken down in this fight. He will need to be prepared for a striking fest. Witczak will be looking to stand and strike as he is well trained in boxing. He is going to try and overwhelm Parlo with punches, but he will need to watch out for the kicks from Parlo. I think Parlo lands some good ones in this fight but I have Wiczak winning by TKO in the second round.

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

James West (1-3) {0-1} versus Johnashu "The Fighter" Kaneson (3-5) {0-0}

West is on a three fight losing streak which includes his WFL debut. He will look to spring forward with a win in this one by staying off the ground with the purple belt. West has the better striking and Kaneson has been knocked out in four of his five losses. Kaneson will need to out point West on the ground to get a win. It seems that Kaneson does not possess the skills needed to finish a fight as he has all of his wins by decision. I don’t think West will allow this to go to the bell so I am going to pick him to win by TKO in the second round.

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Featherweight Fight (145lbs)

Sid "Mini Dragon" Going (3-1) {1-1} versus Derek "Doom" Gordon (4-1) {1-0}

This should be a great fight with both of these young fighters have pretty good records coming into this. Going is three and one and he is coming off his first loss. In the WFL he is one and one but he will look to improve to two and one in this fight. He should look to use his superior punching to get this win. Gordon is a ground fighter threw and threw. He will look to get this fight to the ground even though I don’t think his ground game is much better than Goings. On the ground this fight could go either way but with Going’s having the better striking and the age factor I will pick him to win this fight by TKO in the second round.

Preliminary Bout Number 4-Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Antonio "Cavalo Louco" Vidal (6-0) {1-0} versus Heikki "The Helsinki Hitman" Hirvonen (5-4) {1-1}

Vidal is undefeated so far in his young career. Vidal is extremely skilled in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and he currently holds a brown belt. He will want to get this fight to the ground and wrestle with Hirvonen. Vidal is currently six and o with all six wins coming by submission so once it’s on the ground Vidal knows what he is doing. Hirvonen is a well-rounded fighter who will be making his tenth appearance inside the cage. He does have a ground game but he does not want to go to the ground with Vidal. He should look to keep this fight standing at all costs and if he does it should be all over for Vidal’s undefeated record. I don’t think that will be the case and I see Vidal getting the fight to the ground and he will submit Hirvonen in the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Oskar Wysocki (5-1) {4-1} versus Tony "Thunder" Rollins (1-0) {0-0}

Oskar has the same problem as most of the top Light Heavyweights here in the WFL, he can’t beat Fritz Haarmann. In his last fight he lost to Haarmann in a title fight, but pervious to that he was four and o in the WFL. He will be looking to rebound against a fighter that is making his debut in the WFL. Rollins comes in with a one and o record to face one of the top Light Heavyweights in the WFL. Rollins is a wrestler who will be looking for the ground and pound while Oskar can do it all. He should look to strike while it is on the feet and as soon as Rollins scores the takedown start looking for submissions. That is exactly how I see things going as I got Oskar to win by submission in the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 1- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Tomas "Perkūnas" Skalinskas (2-0) {1-0} versus Kia "Snowflake" Turunen (4-3) {1-0}

Both of these fighters won their debut in Warrior Fight League. Tomas is currently two and o and his win in the WFL came by submission in the first round. He is more of a striker and I don’t think he will have any chance of submitting Kia in this one. He will need to stand in the pocket or take the fight to the clinch to win this. Kia will want to go to the ground and show off his brown belt skills in this fight. He has four wins and three of them have come by submission. Though all of his losses have come by knockout so he will want to stay off the feet in this one. I think Kia will get this fight to the ground and I have him winning the fight by submission in the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 2- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Renato Otis (6-3) {0-0} versus Kristijan "Slunja" Slunjski (2-0) {0-0}

Otis will be looking to get this fight to the ground and use his BJJ skills to try and get a submission. He has six wins and four of them have come by way of submission. He currently holds a purple belt and he loves to grapple. Slunjski is a wrestler who knows how to point grapple. He won both of his fights by decision but he will have a tough time wrestling Otis. He will need to stay on top while on the ground and if he feels a sweep coming he needs to just stand up. At any point of this fight if Slunjski ends up on the bottom he will lose by submission. I got Otis wining in the third round via submission.

Main Card Bout Number 3- Heavyweight Fight (265lbs)

Rsghrhr "Fdjfj" Hrjrgjsjs (4-0) {1-0} versus Gary "Sting Ray" Stilies (5-4) {0-0}

Classic striker versus grappler match up in this one. Rsghrhr is a ground specialist who has won all four of his professional fights and all of them by submission. He will look to get this fight to the ground by any means necessary. If he does this fight will be over quickly. Gary Stilies is five and four and this will be his first fight in the WFL. Four of his five wins have come by TKO and he is a good striker so he will need to take advantage of the fight every time it is standing. Gary is not terrible on the ground but I think Rsghrhr is a lot better. I know this fight will go to the ground at some point so I will pick Rsghrhr will win by submission and I think it will come in the first round.

Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Featherweight Fight (145lbs)

Tormund Giantsbane (14-7) {1-1} versus Suliman "The Hammer" Kane (6-6) {1-0}

Giantsbane was on a bit of a losing streak until he turned things around in his last fight. He got his first win in the WFL and now he wants to start climbing the ladder. If he wants to get a win in this one he will need to stay away from the ground and do as much as he can in the stand up. If this fight goes to the judges’ score cards Kane should be able to get this win with ease. He is the better grappler and he will out score Giantsbane on the mat. The fight could go either way while standing up so Kane should just look for the takedown to eliminate Giantsbane’s strengths. This should be a pretty good fight and I think Kane pulls out the win in the third round with a late submission.

Main Event Main Card Bout Number 5- Featherweight Fight (145lbs)

Andrzej "Litwin" Rostowski (14-16) {3-2} versus Artair Dostan (9-6-1) {2-2}

There last fight was not close at all. Rostowski dominated the first and second round and Dostan pulled out round three. The first two rounds of their last fight were spent on the ground grappling. Rostowski could not get the submission victory but he did rack up enough points to win the fight by decision. I think Dostan will come in a little bit more prepared and he will stuff more takedowns than he did in the last fight. With that being said I still think most of this fight will take place on the ground and that leads me to believe Rostowski will win by decision again.

As I said no title fights but still very exciting fights. We will also not have a title fight in our next event but I assure you we will get these belts back on the line for all of you. So long for now and I will see you for the next preview from Warrior Fight League.
