Hans "Too Quick" Edgar Interview

Fighter profile of Hans Edgar by Kelly McGrady

An anonymous reporter sent us in an audio recording of an interview with Hans "Too Quick" Edgar. Hans gives us an exclusive on why he's dropping down to lightweight, why he's moved to fight in Sydney, his upcoming title shot and more!

Reporter: Hey Hans!! The reporter yellows from a distance as Hans is leaving the gym...
Edgar: Yeah?? He yells back.

Reporter: Can I get an interview before you leave?
Edgar: Sure, why not, but come over here.

Reporter: I'm glad I caught you before you left.
Edgar: Haha yeah, just in time. What did you want to ask me?

Reporter: I'll start off with your first loss. How did it feel to get submitted like that so quickly when you were the favored fighter to win?
Edgar: I don't really know what happened there. He just hit me with a submission before I could react. That's a part of my game that I'm still trying hard to improve.

Reporter: Anyone can be submitted, but you were finished by Antonio Montana. A fighter not known for submissions and pulling off his first on you. Did that take a bite out of your confidence?
Edgar: Yeah, I suppose it did a little. It's only natural. But like I said, that's an area that I know I need to improve on. I'm working on it with the coaches and other fighters at DHFT in Hilo, so hopefully that doesn't happen again.

Reporter: Your next fight was against then 18-5 Ash "The Terror" Thomas, another fight that you were expected to win but didn't. Can you explain what happened in that fight?
Edgar: Yeah, sure. My nerves got the better of me. I was hungry man, going into that fight. I was hungry for a win. But for some reason I just couldn't get into the zone and it showed in the fight. I think Thomas knew that too. All 3 rounds were close but I lost them all. It was a frustrating loss.

Reporter: So are those loses what inspired your drop to lightweight?
Edgar: Nah man, my manager asked me to make the drop. As you probably know I'm now signed to Blitz: Down Under in Sydney and my team mate Ace Darko is in the welterweight division there. To avoid fighting a team mate I was asked to move down. You know all the politics and what not, I don't know man. I don't really keep up with all that you know. I guess we'll see how it goes, I'm excited to make the move.

Reporter: Speaking of Sydney, why the move to Blitz: Down Under?
Edgar: Blitz: Down Under is a great organization. I've always liked them and they worked out a deal with my management, so I moved on. There are some great fighters in both org's, but Blitz is where I'll be from now on. Louie de Palma is good at bring in top talent and he is also giving me a title shot right away, so I can't wait for that.

Reporter: You're getting a title shot against Sho Kazuki?  Edgar: Yep, coming up here in about a week on April 7th.

Reporter: Sho is an excellent kickboxer, how do you plan to do deal with him?
Edgar: He will be tough, no doubt. But Lucas Lunar is also one of the sports great kickboxers but you saw what happened to him.

Reporter: That's what I was just about to ask you about, your recent wins over Lunar You've now finished Lucas Lunar twice, the only fighter to do that. How does that feel?
Edgar: Beating Lunar was amazing. I've watched his career since before I even started fighting. To fight a legend like that was awesome, and to finish him like I did was even better. The first fight was obviously going in his favor before the finish, but I think I showed what I can really do in the second one. Both fights were wars but I think I proved I'm a threat to any striker in the divisiion.

Reporter: You showed some great dirty boxing. which seems to be an art that few use anymore. Where did you learn to dirty box like that?
Edgar: Dirty Harry Fight Team in Hilo, the guys down there are great all around. They have top of the line coaches for whatever I need and a quite a few other high level fighters to train with. I've been there for a while now and those guys have really improved my game.

Reporter: Well Hans I guess that's all I have for you right now. Thank you for the interview!
Edgar: No problem, c-ya around!

Reporter: Alright everyone that was Hans Edgar. I'm gonna give you all a little info about him. He's a previous champion of 3 different orgs and 2 different weight classes (170 & 185). Although he's trying to make that 4 orgs with 3 weight classes with his upcoming title fight at 155. Edgar is currently 12-2 with 10 knockouts, 6 for 7 in title fights and ranked top 100 in his weight class. Coming from CFC in Montreal, he is now fighting for Blitz: Down Under in Sydney and looking to make his mark there. Hopefully we here more from Hans in the future and we thank him for the interview. Good bye everyone!
