Steel Penn Fighting Temple
2014-03-22, Los Angeles, LA Memorial Colossuseum
Author:

Hello everybody I’m “Sunshine” Weston Markson, along with my partner Rudy “The Box” Knife, and special guest John Saunders! The three of us are sitting here in the Heroic studio ready to tell the world about how great Heroic 145 is going to be, but before we get started on all that did you guys here Wilson’s big announcement?

John:  Yeah I heard it, 25 million $$$$ to the winner of a tournament, all fighters in the world of MMA are free to join, but the most well-known will be selected.  Im thinking about ending my retirement!

Rudy:  John you are a HoFer you should come back but I know you wont!  Guys this is crazy I guess Wilson really wants to see who the best fighter in the world is, but lets move on to whats important right now.  Heroic 145, which takes place in the LA Memorial Colossuseum Saturday the 22nd of March, This is going to be a massive event,  I think this event could break a lot of Heroic records, it has 3 title fights and some of Heroic’s best talent.  I am excited so lets just get into the fights.

MAIN EVENT

C/#1 Gun Slinga (24-9)  v  #2 "The Power" Willy Stoppers (34-13)                265+ lbs title

Weston:  The main event of Heroic 145 is a Super-heavyweight fight between champion and p4p 1st ranked fighter in Heroic Gun Slinga , and the 2nd ranked SHW Willy Stoppers.  Stoppers was long time Heroic champion he held the title for almost a year in total.  Currently he has won his last two fights,  and 8 out of his last 10.  Stoppers has for long been one of the best big men in all of MMA and if he is able to beat the 4th ranked fighter in all of MMA in Gun Slinga then Stoppers may very well go down as the greatest SHW of all time! Slinga comes into this fight on an impressive run having won 6 straight fights against some of the hardest competition in MMA, he has won 9 out of his last 10 fights and this has led him to be the highest ranked fighter in all of Heroic, the number one ranked SHW in the world, and the overall 4th ranked p4p fighter on the planet!  If Slinga wins this fight we can start talking about him becoming the #1 ranked fighter in the world.

Rudy:  Its KO or KO with these two fighters, whether its win or lose these two fighters have found a knack for that KO!  Slinga has won 21 of his 24 fights by (T)KO, that’s almost 90% Stoppers has won 32 of his 34 fights by (T)KO for nearly 95% of his wins!  This fight is pretty simple its going to be decided by the person who hits the hardest, and the person who connects first.

John:  I agree I expect a (T)KO  for sure in fact if this fight doesn’t end in a knockout I will suck Weston’s toe.  Don’t worry about the ground game I don’t think we will see either of these guys take the fight to the ground.  im pretty sure neither of them have ever attempted a takedown.  The similarities don’t stop there though these two are very similar strikers.  They both average 6.7 head punches landed per fight, and both land with a success rate around 65%.  Slinga uses the clinch a little more then Stoppers Slinga throws about 20 strikes from the clinch per fight and Stoppers 10, Slinga also uses leg kicks a little more often throwing about 3 more per fight on average, but Stoppers picks his leg kicks a little more wisely landing at a higher percentage rate and landing almost the same 4.5 leg kicks per fight as Slinga.  I know something about close fights and this one will be a close fight.  I will be sitting on the edge of my seat or maybe standing with my eyes glued on the action.

Prediction: I think Slinga continues his run.

CO-MAIN EVENT

C/#1 "Parent Killer" Ryo Narushima (42-11) v  #2 Tiago "the Brazilian mt machine" Renato (13-1)                 205 lbs title

Weston:  The next fight is the CO-MAIN EVENT when Light-heavyweights Ryo Narushima and Tiago Renato meet inside the cage for Ryo Narushima’s LHW title.  When you hear the techno Deepforces – Heartbeat come over the arena that can mean only one thing.  One of the greatest fighters to ever grace MMA with his presence in on his way to provide an ass whipping.  Ryo Narushima is the former p4p best fighter on the planet, and the current Heroic Light-Heavyweight champion.  Narushima has won 8 out of his last 10 fights,  and could be on his way to the coveted #1 p4p spot again but standing in his way is the young, up and coming challenger Tiago Renato.  Renato comes into this fight having won 13 straight fights!  This will be his hardest test to date but if he can win his meteoric rise will continue.  Right now he is one of the hottest prospects in MMA, he has already proven to be one of the best young fighters out there, and if he beats Narushima we can take off the “young” label and say one of the best fighters period.

John:  I see this fight as a passing of the guard possibly, as you mentioned Wes. This is Renato’s toughest challenge yet and how he handles this fight will tell us a lot about Renato.  I think he has the potential to be a future #1 p4p worldwide fighter just like his opponent Narushima was.  Narushima might be nearing the end of his career, but if he comes out and destroys Renato everyone will know he isn’t done yet.

Rudy:  Not long ago a LHW fighter was 15-0, people were starting to talk about him being the best in the world at LHW, time went on and he eventually became the p4p #1 fighter in the world, his name is Ryo Narushima, now he finds himself in a position where he is no longer the young buck everyone wants to reach the top of the mountain, now that man is his opponent, and Ryo is the one who has to halt Renato’s summit.  I think we will see a slugfest in this one, both of these fighters will come out looking to slow each other down with leg kicks Ryo is significantly more accurate with his leg kicks landing 73% of his leg kicks, while Tiago lands around 57%.  I think this fight will end in a (T)KO.  12 of Tiago’s 13 wins have come by knockout, and 33 of Ryo’s wins have been by knockout.  Don’t blink in while watching this fight because these two could end it at moments notice. … SO who wins this battle between the young, and older.

Prediction:  I think Renato will become one of the best LHW fighters ever, I see him reaching p4p #1 but I think it’s a little to early for him just yet I have Narushima winning by (T)KO.

MAIN CARD

#7 Chung Quela (24-10)  v  #4 Jefferson Davis "Boss" Hogg (26-11)

John: BRO! I got this intro!  The last fight on the main card is a super heavyweight fight between 4th ranked JDH, and 7th ranked Chung Quela.  This fight is huge just like my dong! So both these guys on a 5 fight win streak looking good or as l like to say they streaking! I think the winner is fight away from a title shot?  Probably so.  What you guys think?

Weston:  Uhhh thank you for that intro John:  I think both of these guys are outstanding Super heavyweights, this is a big fight that could have some title implications attached to it down the road.

Rudy: I like it when you cut Weston off John great stuff and a far better into then he could ever do.   This is another fight I don’t believe will hit the ground, we have two of the divisions finest skilled strikers doing battle and I think we will find out who is better.  I expect JDH to slow Quela down with leg kicks, and look to get the fight in the clinch so he can use his Muy Thai this man is averaging 32 knees from the clinch per fight!  Expect a heavy dose of knee to the face from JDH.  Quela on the other hand will mix up his striking game a little better, he will most likely throw everything pretty evenly across the spread and land right around 58% of his total strikes like he averages.  That means he will throw for power instead of accuracy and if there is one area Quela has the advantage its that he is the more powerful fighter having finished 75% of his fights by (T)KO while JDH has finished 57%.

Prediction:  Quela (TKO)

#3 Yoshiteru Goto (18-9-1)    v  C/#1 Rainer Varvaskoukku (22-10-2)          145 lbs title

Weston:  The next fight on the main card is a feather weight  title fight between newly crowned champion Rainer Varvaskouku and 3rd ranked Yoshiteru Goto.  Rainer comes into this fight having won 3 straight fights including taking the title in his last fight.  Rainer seems to be one  of those guys who wins 3-4 fights and losses he has done this throughout his career so he is due for a loss soon but lately he seems to be on a resurgence so im excited to see if the challenger can beat him or not.  Goto is impressive and has won 5 straight fights.  This is just his second fight in Heroic but in his first fight he walked through a top 5 ranked opponent.

John:  This will be a fun fight, between the striker and the grappler.  Rainer is a killer he has finished 87% of his fights 12 by (T)KO and 7 by submission.  Im excited for this.

Rudy:  I really don’t know who to pick in this fight its very close, Goto doesn’t have a lot of finishing ability but he has enough that he could finish Rainer.  Rainer has been prone to getting submitted despite being a ground fighter.  Goto has been prone to getting knocked out despite being a striker.  We could see these guys dominate their world, or we could see them finishing the fight where they are not use to doing so in their opponents world.  Rainer has very good takedowns, averaging 37% takedowns success and 2 takedowns per fight.  When it comes to striking Rainer throws for power and lands at very low percentages, he lands less then 40% of his total strikes.  Goto on the other hand is an accurate striker that lands around 65% of his total strikes.  Really I don’t know what to think about his fight, but I can say I think we will be looking at FOTN its my early favorite at least.

Prediction:  Goto by decision

#4 Wilfredo "May May" Cacho (14-7) v  #8 Gabriel "The Archangel" Halo (16-6)

Weston:  The next fight on the main card is a Light-Heavyweight fight between 4th ranked Wilfredo Cacho and 8th ranked Gabriel Halo.  Both of these fighters have won 3 out of their last 4 fights and one of those 4 fights was a KO win for “May May” over “The Archangel”  Now Halo looks for revenge on the man who stopped his streak to the top of the division.

John:  I like rematches I know a lot of people don’t but this is interesting, the last fight between these two was big for both fighters, Cacho and Halo were both looking like they could be contenders going into that fight and it was Cacho who came out on top with contender status, now Halo has the opportunity for some revenge and a switch in fortunes.  Oh and I think he will do it..

Rudy:  BOOM! ARE YOU READY!....NO I SAID ARRRRRREEEE YOU REEEEADY!!! OK then for the 93000 in attendance, and the hundreds of thousands watching at home lets get ready for a KNOOOOCKOUT! These two fighters specialize in finding their opponents chin and turning their lights out!  They both win 93% of their fights by KO.  For Cacho its his ability to mix up his strikes that allows him to confuse his opponents and find the KO.  For Gabriel its throwing heavy hard shots that wear his opponent down for the knockout or just plain knocks their head off.  The winner of this title eliminator fight will look pretty moving forward and could possibly a few fights from now be fighting for that LHW title.

#4 (WW) Mateus Gracie (22-13) v #4 (MW) Andy Wilkins (21-8)

Rudy:  Fellas the next first fight on the main card is a Middleweight fight between 4th ranked Andy Wilkins and the 4th ranked Welterweight Mateus Gracie.  Gracie decided he wanted a new challenge and moved up to middleweight to take on his counterpart.  I havnt talked to him myself to see if this is a permanent move but I think he will return to the WW division or possibly fight in both!

Weston:  What an interesting fight due to both fighters being ranked 4th in their division.  Wilkins is on a 3 fight win streak and you have to think he is closing in on a title shot, with a win he may very well solidify one.  Gracie on the other hand is on a bit of a slide since dropping from 185 to 170lbs he has lost 2 fights and won 2 fights.  It will be interesting to see if Gracie moving back up for this fight will help him or hurt him.

John:  What a fight between two fighters who are primarily grapplers.  We may see an excellent ground battle here, or possibly the ground games will cause a stalemate and we will see these two strike it out.  Wilkins is the better striker he lands more accurate with his strikes at around 53% total, while Gracie is sub 40% on his strikes.  So if this fight somehow stays standing it will be fun to see what happens, BUT don’t expect that Wilkins lands 38% of his takedown attempts and averages 2 takedowns per fight, Gracie lands less takedowns at a little over 1 per fight and is less successful with 26% of his attempts being successful.  Once the fight is on the ground both fighters have shown the ability to finish fights with both GNP and submissions.  I am excited for this fight I think we are going to be treated to a rare Elite ground battle.

Prediction:  I think Wilkins wins by decision.
